Work Text:
The patrol ended without any fights today.
Sugishita dragged his body back towards his class, ready to go home, and closed his day peacefully with his grandmother's cooking. He slid the door open, expecting the room to be empty since he went to tend the rooftop garden first after patrol.
Well, turns out it wasn't.
Sugishita blinked slowly. His legs were rooted on the doorstep and he could feel his breath got taken away at the scene in front of him.
Sakura was still here.
The said teen was leaning forward on the window. His arms folded neatly on the rusty frame. Sugishita saw a glimpse of Sakura's gold iris that shone under the orange light. The long Furin coat behind him fluttered by the evening wind. It also caressed Sakura's hair gently, exposing the serene look that was etched on the young school representative's face.
What a sight.
Sugishita noticed how Sakura’s hair had grown longer these days. It softly grazed the nape of his neck. The black and white strands contrasted sharply against his pale skin. Sugishita couldn’t help but notice the way the sunset made Sakura’s hair glisten, almost as if it were inviting him to touch it. His fingers twitched with the urge, a subtle but persistent desire to run them through those soft locks.
It wasn’t a rational thought. Normally, Sugishita wouldn’t act on such a whim, especially to a certain bi-colored teen. Yet something about today made him let his ego down the drain.
Without much further thought, he made his way towards Sakura, wrapping his arm around the smaller’s waist and pulling him into his lap as he took a seat on a stray chair.
Sakura’s breath hitched in surprise, but he didn’t pull away even when he saw who the culprit was.
Sugishita’s fingers immediately cranked through his hair, brushing out the tangles with much surprising gentleness. His touch was careful as if he was handling something fragile. The soft texture of Sakura’s hair was even better than he had imagined, silky beneath his fingertips.
“What are you doing?” Sakura asked, half-annoyed, half-curious, though there was no real bite in his tone.
“Your hair’s too long,” Sugishita replied simply as if that was enough explanation for pulling him into such an intimate position. “It’s getting in the way.”
"...hmph, whatever you say," Sakura huffed and fluttered his heterochromatic eyes closed, enjoying the way Sugishita's fingers combed through his locks and scratched his scalp. He could feel his body relaxed at the gesture.
Unbeknownst to them, Suo, Nirei, Kiryuu, and Tsugeura were hiding behind the classroom door, watching the scene unfold.
“This is too adorable,” Kiryuu whispered, taking out his phone to capture the moment. The playful glint in his eye was unmistakable, his camera aimed perfectly to frame Sugishita and Sakura.
“I can't believe Sugishita-kun has this kind of virtue in him," Tsugeura tried to keep his voice low. "This is definitely sweet coming from him."
“Do you think they even realize we’re here?” Nirei asked, trying to stifle his own laughter.
"Probably not," the pink-haired teen let out a low whistle.
Suo only stood behind the other three silently. His lone, wine-like eye unshakingly stared at the scene laid in front of him. His expression clearly showed a mixture of jealousy and amusement, yet the others didn't dare to mention it.
Back to Sugishita and Sakura, the taller gently tugged on Sakura's hair and gathered the bicolored strands together, tying them neatly into a small ponytail at the base of Sakura’s neck. The loose ends still brushed against the younger's pale skin, but it was more contained now.
“There,” he said, leaning back slightly to admire the look. Sugishita found himself oddly satisfied with his handiwork.
Sakura grumbled under his breath but made no move to escape Sugishita’s lap. He reached up to touch his hair, fingers brushing the small ponytail. “You didn’t have to pull me into your lap to do that, you know.”
“Maybe I didn’t.” Sugishita huffed, averting his gaze away from Sakura's piercing look. “But I wanted to.”
His nose suddenly felt ticklish.
For a brief moment, Sakura fell silent, and the room was filled with the quiet sounds of their breathing. Sugishita’s fingers lingered at the back of Sakura’s neck, the warmth of his skin seeping into his touch. Sakura only rolled his eyes and turned his head back towards the window. The tip of his ears gradually reddened at the touch.
Kiryuu, capturing every moment, couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth at the sight. “I’m definitely posting this. Just wait until everyone sees Sakura-chan and Sugi-chan, who are all shy with each other.”
Suo shot Kiryuu a warning glance. “You better not. I’m not ready to deal with their reactions.”
"You mean you're not ready to deal with your growing jealousy, Suo-chan~" the pink-haired teen shot back.
Nirei and Tsugeura could only stifle their giggles at the flabbergasted look on the eyepatched teen.
Ah, what an unusual sight.
