The Humans' Enigma

Summary:

Meliodas begins to notice the differences between humans and demons, after searching for his answers and getting nothing, he goes in search of Merlin for help.

Work Text:

Why was everything so complicated? Why don't they understand him? He speaks the same fucking language, he does everything he can to act like a fucking weak human (Even though he doesn't understand the reason for his actions)

What is he doing wrong?

Nobody explains anything to him, they just expect him to understand, that's stupid, even demons know they have to explain themselves, stupid humans and their stupid way of thinking.

Why do they want to complicate everything with those stupid emotions? It would be much easier if they didn't put them in every single thing they do, that if you do something you have to do it with your heart (What the fuck are they referring to?), that you have to understand the feelings of others (How the fuck am I supposed to do it if nobody explains anything?). But obviously he's the bad guy if he doesn't know. Stupid humans.

He hates it when someone says some stupid phrase, a saying, or a hint, and he's the only one who doesn't understand. Or he says something and they tell him he was too rude… it's not his fault if they can't handle the truth, stupid humans.

He hates everything that has to do with humans and their way of being (Except for sins, they are his and he doesn't plan on giving them back.)

“Captain, isn't this midnight blue one better than the black one?” Diane approached the blond while holding two dresses of the aforementioned colors.

“Yes, it's prettier.” A long time ago he understood that it's better to lie (Even though he hates doing it) than to cause disturbances for absurd things, like if the dress was the color they said, which is obviously not, that dress was not even close to blue, or even black, but it seems that no one else sees it, it's stupid, surely the others also play along with their partner. (He hopes it really is like that...)

It wasn't just the colors, the emotions, the way they acted (Humans act stupid if you ask them). The stupid Chaos King wanted to screw up his life, and decided it would be the weather too, while he was freezing the others were barely covered, which was stupid, it was too cold to go out, but not the stupid humans assured him that everything was fine, that the sun was shining perfectly and other bullshit out of their asses.

He hates not knowing what's going on with the others, why did they all seem to agree that he was wrong?

Was he defective?

Were demons not as superior as his father told him?

If he goes with Merlin...she won't judge him, right?
He hopes so, he's already spent 10 years trying to solve it on his own, and needless to say, he was unsuccessful, he has to go with those who have the problem (He was fine, the stupid humans and their stupid way of being are the ones who have the problem...)

As soon as they left the druids' cave, Meliodas went to Merlin's makeshift laboratory. Trying to avoid at all costs those stupid humans who were invading his place. He hates that they are there, but Merlin says that they are necessary to defeat the Commandments. (He doesn't want to hurt them, they are as much his as the sins, they also belong to him and his duty is to protect them, not hurt them)

“Merlin, can we talk for a moment?”

“Of course, what is it that eats away at your thoughts?” The blond doesn't want to know how she knows, he will simply add it to his mental list: 'Reasons why humans are weird'

“You humans are weird, leaving aside your emotional and stupid behavior. While I feel cold, you don't feel it. I see one color, you say it's another. I see perfectly well at night, you guys can't see a fucking damn thing. Not to mention your stupid tendency to hurt your own.” The demon mentioned directly, and as clearly as possible.

“Interesting… I knew your customs were different as a demon, but I didn't think your biology was too, the rest of the races are almost identical when it comes to biology.”

The mage took out a book, opened it on a page, and gave it to the smaller of the two. “Humans have 3 color receptors, these are the colors we can see” She pointed with her finger to a part of the page. “Demons must have more or less receptors”

“Does that allow us to see at night?” He asked while reading the text on the page.

“No, that must be another characteristic of their eyes” The mage stared into the demon's eyes.

“I can also see under water, or do this” Meliodas mentioned casually and calmly while using his third eyelid to lubricate his eye.

“That's a third eyelid. Because of what you just told me, I have the hypothesis that demons can be reptiles” The mage explained while the demon looked at her expectantly.

“They share many of their characteristics, the third eyelid, a different amount of color receptors, the cold or also known as cold-blooded beings, night vision…” The mage paused. “I'm struck by your way of being with our guests, or what you said about how we treat our own, what did you mean?”

“Humans hurt their offspring, we demons have them as a priority, we don't allow anyone other than the leader and those selected by him to interfere in their education.” He explained with some anger in her voice.

“Offspring?”

“Yes, the smallest and most inexperienced humans” He sat down on a chair that was in the laboratory. “We also don't let them in our territory, for example, Zaratras and Bartra were stupid to let me in without checking that I wasn't a threat.”

“Is that why you don't like the others to be here?” Meliodas raised his head upon hearing that.

The little demon nodded. “Yes, only my people can be here, basically the sins (and the commandments, but it's not wise to say that), plus they get angry when I tell them that they're being stupid and irrational, like Denzel, I don't like that son of a bitch, he's very hostile towards you.”

Merlin couldn't help but burst out laughing after hearing that. “So demons work like packs?”

“Yepp” The demon was staring at a small stone lying on the table.

“Okay, let's go to your room, I'm going to put a spell on it to retain as much heat as possible, I'll do the same with the blankets and your clothes” Meliodas' face lit up upon hearing that, he won't have to be cold anymore.

“Thank you, Lin” The blond smiled happily. Merlin simply ruffled his hair, but he didn't wait for the demon to purr, the woman simply tried to ignore him and continue on her way.

“Demons are really interesting” The magician thought as she smiled curiously.

Contrary to what he thought, the conversation didn't go badly, in fact, it answered many of his doubts, only leaving those that had to do with behaviors (Humans are stupid and no one will make him believe otherwise), but according to what Merlin said that was due to customs, which is normal, demons are superior, for that reason they are direct and don't sugarcoat things.

His father may not be the best, but he showed him the reasons for demonic supremacy, which is better than anything else that he could give him, imagine him, believing that any other race is better, it would be hilarious, even a newborn knows that demons are better.

The captain of sins decided to leave everything as it is, and attribute the way of being of other races to their weakness.
