Chapter Text
Izuku stood in front of the rest of his classmates to be as they stared at their teacher. Aizawa Shouta, the man who had told them all to come out here in order to take a physical test to see their potential as Heroes stood across the field from them with an impassive expression on his face. He stared at each and every student in his class with what appeared to be complete boredom as he then spoke to them in a tone that told them that if they interrupted him, they'd get in trouble.
"You all took about 5 minutes to change. You could do better, but that is for the future. Now then, what we're here for right now is to take a Quirk Apprehension test. It will test your ability to control, use and creatively activate your quirks in ways that you've done in a specific set of tests that you all are forced to do Quirkless in normal schools." Aizawa said, as the brown-haired girl spoke up, the one that he saved from the Zero Pointer.
"But Mr. Aizawa... what about orientation?" The girl asked, concerned.
"You have no need to sit in a gymnasium and listen to the principal talk for 3 hours about what your time here in UA will be like. This is the Hero Course, and if you all want to leave this school as Pro Heroes, then you will stay here and do these tests. UA's curriculum has made it to where teachers can do as they wish in how they teach their students, and that goes for anything possible." Aizawa said, pulling a ball out of nowhere.
The man stared at each and every student that stood before him. He gave them a look of scrutiny as he watched their movements closely, as though he were sizing them up as potential threats to how his day will go. He tossed the ball at Bakugo Katsuki, a boy who had been a bully in Izuku's previous school... and someone that the boy had been avoiding ever since he'd last spoken to him earlier that week.
"Bakugo, how far could you throw this ball in middle school without the use of your Quirk?" Aizawa asked, as he stared at Bakugo in boredom.
"About 67 meters." Bakugo said, with a smug expression.
"Alright, now if you don't mind... you should use your Quirk in order to throw it." Aizawa said, as Bakugo smirked.
Walking over to the circle that was clearly shown, he stood in the middle of it as he pulled an arm back. Izuku noticed how his sweat moved down his arms into his palms and looked at his classmates to see if they had enhanced hearing and noticed a girl with long earphone jacks as he stepped closer to her. The girl noticed his movement out of the corner of her eyes and watched as he finally stopped next to her before hearing him speak.
"Y-Y-You might w-want to cover y-your ears." Izuku warned through a stuttering voice.
"Why?" She asked, as Izuku pointed at the hand that was glowing an orange color.
"His quirk creates explosions from his hands." Izuku said, with a very pale expression.
The girl took his warning to heart and placed her hands over her ears as Bakugo let out a loud scream with the activation of his quirk coming not long after.
"DIIIIEEEE!" The young man called out.
BOOM!
Everyone, including Aizawa, had watched as the ball was sent flying off into the sky. Multiple clouds were dispersed when the ball was sent flying into the sky, and the girl with short purple hair with earphone jacks handing from her ears gave Izuku a happy expression.
"Thanks for the warning, I could've gotten some harsh tinnitus if I heard that." The girl said, as Izuku nodded.
Aizawa then looked at his phone to see the distance that the ball had gone as he showed it off to the class. It showed that the ball had gone around 705.2 meters as he smirked at the students with a sadistic grin on his face.
"Wow, 705 meters is extremely far." A boy with blonde hair and a black lightning symbol on it called out.
"That was really far!" Another boy said, spiky red hair on his head.
"That's the Hero Course for you! This is going to be so much fun!" A girl, who had pink skin and hair happily cheered.
That seemed to be the wrong choice of words as Aizawa gave them all a cruel expression on his face. He glared at the girl who said it before he spoke to them all in a harsh tone that belied a lot of truth in Izuku's perspective.
"Fun? You think that being a Hero will be fun? How about I make this a game then? Whoever gets last place on these tests will be deemed unworthy of being in the Hero Course and will be promptly kicked out. After that they will be expelled and barred from entering another course in this school." Aizawa said, as he stared at them all with fury in his eyes.
"Expelled!? But we fought to get in here, you can't do that!" The girl with brown hair called out, with worry in her expression.
"UA has a rule where it's teachers can take anything they desire and get the outcome they want. Welcome to UA and remember... whoever comes last will be expelled." Aizawa said, as they all began to begin the other tests.
For the first test, Izuku was paired up with Bakugo. The young man having been giving Izuku a very harsh expression the entire time, our protagonist however, had been wondering about how he should use the Quirk, All Might gave him in a way to keep himself from hurting his body. As soon as Bakugo got into position, Izuku decided that he wouldn't use the quirk until he could use it on a test that wouldn't break his body like it had in the Entrance Exams.
As soon as the gun was shot, Izuku and Bakugo rushed down the field. His training with All Might on the sandy beach had increased his acceleration, overall speed, and leg strength from carrying all those heavy items on that beach up multiple stairs. Not only that but having to hold All Might's weight on your back would do a lot for your physical speed considering he was almost 562 pounds of pure muscle.
And as Izuku ran down the path to the finish line, he had finished with an acceptable time of around 6.12 seconds whilst Bakugo got around 5.56 seconds for himself. The boy was appalled at how Izuku managed to somewhat keep pace with him, but only lost by a few milliseconds, Bakugo thought to himself in that moment he'd have to go at full strength for the rest of the tests.
Izuku took out a notebook as he wrote down the quirks that he could see from his classmates or soon to be ex-classmates. He looked as though he was enjoying himself when he watched the other students show off their quirks in the first test. From the ability to use ice to propel oneself across the field, to a laser that was shot from their stomach, Izuku was having a field day when writing down these Quirks. Although from what he saw on Aizawa's expression, the man was looking as though he were about to blow a gasket with Izuku's writing of quirks that he could see.
So as he stopped, he focused on the rest of the tests, moving on from the 50-meter dash and onto the grip strength. His grip strength from middle school had increased from around 42 kgs to around 80 kgs, not a whole lot of an increase but it was definitely far better than he was originally in middle school. But looking at his teacher, he knew that he'd have to get a really high score on one of these tests soon in order to appease the man's growing anger towards him... but Izuku did notice one thing. The man was pointedly ignoring a purple haired boy with weird balls on his head who was openly leering at the girls within the classroom, even going as far as drooling.
After the grip strength test was the standing long jump, and Izuku could only jump around maybe a few meters away. Definitely an improvement from his original numbers in middle school still, but it still didn't seem to appease Mr. Aizawa as the man constantly gave him a glare. Once the standing long jump was over, they moved onto another test, the Endurance test. The entire class was set up to run for as long as they could possibly do so without running out of air or slowing down at all.
Izuku had actually shown that he had a great amount of stamina for this event. But he didn't see the point in trying to use his quirk in this event since it would just make him incapable of doing the rest of the tests. And glancing over at his teacher, Izuku soon became very worried about his placement as the man seemed to sigh to himself before marking his name again on whatever that clipboard was. Izuku knew at this point that the teacher was definitely targeting him in these tests since he never looked at the other students who were taking the test as well.
He already knew what the results of this was going to be, he would be placed at the bottom. Even though he was doing far better than some of the other students without the use of the Quirk that All Might gave him about a few weeks ago on Dagobah Beach. Taking a deep breath as he decided to call it quits on the endurance race since he was one of the remaining people still running on the field, and Bakugo left after he did as if to show that he had something to prove to him.
After the endurance test was the flexibility test, something that Izuku felt as though he'd fail miserably at. He hadn't had any exercises that would allow him to be very flexible since he'd focused his time and efforts on increasing his muscle mass to handle the power of One for All. As he did his best to flex his body enough to reach his toes as was stated in the tests information of what to do, he could barely reach his arms down his legs enough to reach the halfway point before hearing his back pop.
Once it was clearly shown that either the pink skinned girl or the invisible girl had been the most flexible student in the class, they moved onto the next test. It was the sidesteps, and Izuku did the best he could with what was given to him at the moment as he watched as the boy who openly leered at their classmates without any kind of remorse was shown to be the ultimate victor of this exercise. Shaking his head at that, it eventually became time to throw the ball for the next test, the ball throw.
He watched as the brown-haired girl had grabbed the ball from Aizawa as the man watched the young woman throw it. Her quirk activated making the ball seemingly just float higher and higher into the air. Said ball never came back down as Aizawa revealed the number given for her throw, as it had reached an infinite amount. After a few other students launched the ball and got around 700 meters or a hundred-meter difference from Bakugo's amount it was finally his turn.
This was the moment he really needed to show that he could use All Might's Quirk properly. But how to utilize the power was confusing him, he'd never used it aside from when he punched the Zero pointer robot so hard it imploded before exploding. He reared his arm back, hoping that he could be healed from the damage he'd do to his arm by using his full power on the entire arm and throwing the ball with his entire body. And as he charged up One for All into his right arm, he prepared to throw it before he suddenly felt the power of the quirk leave his body causing his heart to freeze and his entire form to still. The ball landing only a couple of feet away from him.
Shaking his arm for a moment, his eyes entered it's analytical state as he tried to figure out why he couldn't activate All Might's Quirk. That was until a lot of fabric encompassed his entire form and he was promptly yanked over towards the teacher, whose eyes were glaring at him with red orbs that definitely were black earlier. The man glared hard into Izuku's eyes before he spoke to the kid with nothing more than a disappointment in his expression as he gave a tone of indifferent anger.
"Can you tell me what you were about to do?" Aizawa questioned.
"I-I was going t-to use my q-quirk?" Izuku said, in a questioning manor.
"And you were going to believe that Recovery Girl could heal whatever damage you were about to do?" Aizawa asked, as Izuku couldn't help but nod.
"I-I don't know h-how to use my q-quirk safely... I came here t-to learn how." Izuku said, looking into his teacher's eyes.
"I've stopped using my quirk on you, make sure you throw the ball with your quirk and not leave the circle. And at least try and limit the damage dealt to yourself in the process, we don't need a glass cannon of a Hero." Aizawa said, as Izuku felt something in his heart twinge at that.
It was also in that moment he realized that this teacher was someone he had researched in the past. He didn't voice it as he walked back into the circle, he heard his soon to be ex-classmates mutter to one another about what his quirk could possibly be. Taking a deep breath, he began to think about how to use All Might's Quirk without hurting himself and making him a burden on his peers as a Hero. Pulling his arm back, One for All was channeled into the limb as he began to throw the ball with his entire body.
Everything for him moved in slow motion as he put on a very determined expression as his hand reached the point of which he'd throw the ball. At the last point of contact with the ball, Izuku transferred all of the power within One for All into his index finger in order to propel the ball as far as he could. With that decided, the ball was blasted off high into the air, breaking through three clouds in the process as it flew far into the distance. Aizawa pulled up his phone to record the distance that the ball was thrown, and as the number stopped, he gave it an unimpressed expression as it had gone just a tenth of a meter further than Bakugo's throw.

Everyone stood as they saw Izuku throw the ball, his arm was looking fine. If anything though, the boy held onto his hand whilst looking at his teacher with nothing more than a determined expression on his face. He then spoke to Aizawa talking about how he could still fight, even with a broken finger... the teacher sighed before sending Izuku back to the class before moving on to the next student. Any other student that came after Izuku hadn't shown that they could make it as far as he did aside from a boy who could control animals with his voice.
By the time the tests were all over, Izuku stared at Bakugo who had been glaring at him with all the hatred he could muster. He didn't attack him earlier, and Izuku was far more concerned with a silent Bakugo than he would be with a normally very loud and abrasive Bakugo. The boy wouldn't attack Izuku in front of a Hero, much less in a Hero school unless it was in a training exercise... but as they watched their teacher pull up the numbers for the students Izuku felt his heart sink when he wasn't higher on the rankings.
Looking at his placement, he saw that his placement was far below that of the rest of the class. At the direct bottom of the list and Izuku knew what this meant, and the other students stared at him with trepidation... one of them waiting for Aizawa to tell them if one of them being expelled wasn't a part of the plan. Then the teacher spoke to the class.
"These rankings show the pecking order for now, but that doesn't mean that everyone won't be stronger later on. You heard what I said earlier correct, Midoriya?" Aizawa asked, as Izuku nodded.
"Alright, you've been deemed unworthy of being in the Heroics Course and are hereby expelled from the school entirely. Pack your things and leave." Aizawa said, as Izuku sadly walked away.
"Okay, now hold on. I thought you were only telling us that in order to make us take this seriously?" A prim and proper young woman asked, looking confused.
"Usually, I use that as a logical ruse, but I was correct in my reasoning for Midoriya. Come on, now get to class you're schedules for your classes are on your desks." Aizawa said, with a yawn before walking away.
Izuku walked down the path towards the boy's changing room as he took his gym uniform off. He stared at the clothes in his hands for a moment, watching as he placed them down on the bench nearby as he put on his normal clothes that he'd brought with him. He knew that something would be off with his teachers again, they always had it out for him, no matter what school he'd gone to. He was prepared to be kicked out of the school the moment he had shown what appeared to be weakness in their eyes.
Especially with how his homeroom teacher was clearly singling him out in order to get rid of him. The man clearly had it out for him, but the question was why he did.
Izuku left the school with his belongings, he walked through the gates of the school as he walked down the sidewalk towards the train station. He heard movement behind himself and turned to see who it was, he wouldn't be surprised if it was Bakugo coming to gloat about how he got expelled. And sure, enough it was Bakugo, but something was off about the boy as he gave Izuku an unreadable expression as he spoke to him.
"You're really just giving up like that?" Bakugo asked.
"What's it t-to you? Y-You're the one w-who didn't want m-me here." Izuku asked, as he turned around to leave.
"Didn't you dream of coming here in the first place!?" Bakugo called out angrily.
"O-Of course I did! It was m-my dream! I thought y-you didn't want m-me here!?" Izuku called out, as Bakugo glared at him.
"If you're not here, then that means nobody will know how great I am!" Bakugo called out, as Izuku sighed.
"I-I don't want to t-talk to your r-right now K-Kacchan. I just w-want to go h-home." Izuku said, pulling his backpack further up his back.
As the boy turned to walk home, Bakugo did something completely out of character for him. He walked up to him and placed a palm on his shoulder, and as Izuku expected to be hit by the boy or exploded by the boy's quirk... he was brought into a hug. It was so out of character, that Izuku felt himself instinctively freeze in place... fearful of what could happen if he continued the contact with the boy. Bakugo held the boy there for a moment, and as soon as he pulled away... the boy had a look of guilt on his face that was replaced with a smug attitude.
"Get out of here then, if you're such a pussy to talk back to our homeroom teacher then you don't deserve to be in UA." Bakugo said, as he walked past him.
It was only an hour later that Izuku arrived back at his apartment with his mother. The woman had been looking at him with as much worry as a parent like her could hold within her heart, and she definitely noticed his very sad mood and how he wasn't wearing the UA uniform. She walked over and brought the boy into a hug as Izuku wrapped his arms around her, his tears now falling as he was able to show off his true feelings about the expelling of his chance at Heroism in UA.
"Are you okay Izuku!? What happened!? Why are you home so early?!" Inko asked, worriedly.
"I-I was e-expelled." Izuku said, as Inko stared at him in shock.
"How!? What did you do for that to happen!?" Inko asked, in complete shock but concern.
"I-I didn't use my Quirk like the teacher wanted a-apparently. I-I can't use it without h-hurting myself. I-If I do I hurt myself pretty badly." Izuku said, as he sat down at the kitchen table with his mother.
"Don't worry Izuku, I'll find out why you were expelled. That school shouldn't even have expelled you; you are the most heroic boy I know... and I know that I haven't been as supportive of your dream in the past... but you deserve to be in that school. No matter what teacher says you can't." Inko said, moving towards her bedroom.
It wasn't until later on in the evening that Izuku got a call from All Might. He wondered if the man wanted Izuku to hand over One for All back to him in order to give it to another student, and as he picked up the phone his eyes were red from crying for a major portion of the evening.
"A-All Might?" Izuku asked, on the phone.
"Young Midoriya!? What happened!" All Might asked, as Izuku told him about the events of his day.
"We h-had to take a Q-Quirk Ap-Apprehension test. And I-I think I was s-singled out." Izuku stuttered out as he felt more tears fall from his eyes renewed.
"How do you think you were targeted?" All Might asked calmly.
"A-Aizawa-sensei was staring a-at me the e-entire time. H-He pointedly i-ignored those who leered at t-the girls in the c-class." Izuku said, as All Might grumbled to himself.
"I had a feeling that Aizawa was being a hardass on the students. But I didn't think that he'd expel you on the very first day." All Might said, with a sigh.
"D-Do you want m-me to give up O-One for A-All?" Izuku asked, as he curled up into a ball.
"Why would you think that I'd want you to give up One for All? It's your quirk now, I passed it onto you because I know you will do great things with it. You will become an even better Hero than I was." All Might said, as a voice on the other side of his phone came up. "Sorry Young Midoriya, I have to talk with Nezu really quick. I will call you later." All Might said, before ending the call.
Izuku looked at his phone as the call was ended, all before staring at his ceiling. He saw multiple posters of All Might around his bedroom before realizing he really shouldn't have all this merch when he talks to the man on a normal basis. So as he gathered the strength to put away most of his merchandise, he placed most of them all in a couple boxes before shoving it under his bed as he sat down on the mattress. Taking a deep breath, he thought about if any other schools would take him as a student within their halls now that he was expelled from UA.
Contrary to popular belief, UA when it expels a student from its very famed halls place a black mark on their record. And the fact that he was expelled for some unknown reason other than being unworthy of the Hero Course had Izuku wondering what he'd done wrong in order to be singled out by his teacher before being expelled. Sure not using All Might's Quirk was something he was thinking was an answer to that... but the man should've read his file knowing that he'd just manifested the Quirk in the Entrance Exams.
Unless Aizawa didn't read his file about when he manifested One for All during the Entrance Exams at all.
Thinking back on it now, it made perfect sense as to why Aizawa-sensei singled him out from the rest of his classmates. The man clearly didn't read any information about Izuku and his past life before that day and was only using face value information he got from the Entrance Exams. A pit formed in Izuku's gut when he'd came to this conclusion before a deeply rooted anger within his heart grew tenfold at that realization... Aizawa really just wanted to get rid of him from the start.
Then there was the uncharacteristic action from Bakugo earlier that day before he arrived at home. The boy hugging him out of the blue was not something he was prepared for, so he believed that Bakugo had an ulterior motive in doing that... he was probably trying to get Izuku to lower his guard in order to take advantage of that. He could barely trust any authority figures in his life aside from his mother and All Might, especially those at school. If teachers failed him in schools that he'd gone to in the past, how would UA be any different from them?
Izuku sat on his bed, the tears from his eyes still flowing out as he constantly rubbed at his eyes. His dreams of becoming a Hero was ripped from under his feet the moment his homeroom teacher laid eyes on him that day, and Izuku couldn't help but wonder... what will he do now? He couldn't possibly just join another Hero School in a bid to become a Hero through another school's curriculum... could he? It was already too late into the start of the year for him to take another Entrance Exam... and even then, the only other school who'd take on UA students who'd been expelled was Shiketsu, Imasu and Seiai Academy.
They had always held their Entrance Exams around about a month after UA started it's curriculum. And Izuku felt as though if he gained some semblance of control over his quirk before those Entrance Exams, he could actually enter those schools if he tried hard enough. All he'd have to do is not trust anyone at those schools at present and keep to himself, whilst making sure to keep tabs on All Might... that was before he heard a knock on his apartment door.
Walking towards the living room he found his mother sitting on the couch with a dead expression on her face. He opened the front door before finding All Might in his weakened state as the man smiled at him sadly before saying his hello and entering the room at Izuku's behest. The two entered the living room to find Inko now looking at the two as All Might introduced himself as Izuku's mentor and trainer for his Quirk. As Inko and All Might spoke to one another, Izuku got some time with the man alone in his room as the Hero took in all the merchandise the boy still had out.
"I never thought that you'd be this big about me." All Might said, with a chuckle.
"I-I just hid t-the rest of m-my stuff about you. B-but why are y-you here?" Izuku asked, as All Might smiled at him.
"I've decided that if I can't train you at UA's facilities, then they don't deserve me to teach them in that school." All Might said, patting Izuku's head.
"B-But what about t-those who wanted t-to learn from you!?" Izuku asked, in shock as All Might smiled at him sadly.
"I will still be teaching at the school, but it's just for the Third Years. I won't be teaching the First Years until the USJ Rescue Training come up within a week and a half. It will give me plenty of time to get used to teaching students, not to mention teaching you how to wield One for All to get into a Hero School." All Might said, with a smile.
"Y-You're g-going to teach me h-how to use One for All?" Izuku asked as All Might smiled.
"Yup! I failed to teach you before you took the Entrance Exams. But now that you were expelled, in the fault of Aizawa not your own, we can make sure that you gain a certain percentage of control without you having trouble mastering it." All Might said with a smile.
"O-Okay! I-I hope that you w-won't be disappointed in me!" Izuku said, as All Might happily laughed.
"You've done more than impress me with how cool you've become young man. It's only a matter of time before you become an even better Hero than I myself am, you just need to have the confidence to believe in yourself. As a great Hero once said... 'believe in the me who believes in you.'" All Might said, with a smile.
"D-Did you get that from G-Gurren L-Laggan?" Izuku asked, as All Might smiled at him.
"Yes I did! Kamina was the best person to give inspirational speeches!" All Might chuckled as he pat Izuku on the back.
