Cupid Messed Up

Summary:

“You gave him a spider lily!” Bakugou raved.

“Yeah? Why are you so pissed at that?” Kaminari questions.

“Dude. I thought you liked him. Why would you give him a spider lily.” Kirishima chimes in.

“Do you even know what they mean?” Sero questions, looking between Mina and Kaminari.

“Yeah. It means love right?” He answers, turning to Mina.

“Yeah it does. I don’t know what you guys have a problem with.” She replies.

“It does not mean love. Who the hell told you that.” Sero asks.

“I saw it online.” She tells them.

Chapter Text

Kaminari has a crush.

He remembers the exact moment he fell in love with the sleep deprived boy. It was the first day of UA and he and the ‘bakusquad’ were making their way towards the canteen. Just as they were nearing the doors, Kaminari’s eyes caught sight of a boy.

He was slightly taller than himself and had dark purple hair that stuck up in every direction. The boy was wearing the Gen Ed uniforme and was leaning against some lockers, eyes locked onto his phone. He also had a pair of cat headphones over his ear, the colour blending in with his hair and he had to admit it looked quite cute. Ok. It looked really cute.

Kaminari could swear that his heart had stopped for a moment. Sure he’s had crushes on people before, girls and boys, and dated a few people in middle school, but he’s never seen someone as cute as the boy standing a few feet away, acting nonchalant as if he didn’t just flip Kaminari’s entire world around.

After that day he would find himself staring at the boy anytime he walked past or was near him. It happened so much that his friends had started to pick up on what was happening which led to them teasing him about it. He didn’t care though.

One day, after school he found himself in Mina’s room begging asking for help on how to talk to that boy. So far every idea she has come up with has been turned down. He can’t ‘just go up to him and talk to him’ because he knows he will mess it up. He also can’t ‘write a note to him and put it in his locker’ because he wouldn’t even know what to write and it’s a boring idea and not creative at all and he what if he thinks it’s cringy or weird and what if he thinks Kaminari’s a creep and-

“KAMI!” The voice of his pink friend pulls him from his thoughts.

“I’ve been talking to you, were you even listening to me?” She says, hands on her hips and giving him a pointed look.

“Sorry Mina, I got distracted. What were you saying?” He replies sheepishly, feeling bad for not listening to his friend.

“I was saying how you could give him flowers instead.” She announced, a smile on her face.

“Flowers? I thought we weren’t doing something ‘basic’.” He mumbled.

“It won’t be. We will get different flowers and put one in his locker each day but they will have meanings.”

“Meanings?”

“Yes. Flowers have a meaning behind them, so we get certain ones and give that to him and then when there’s no more you confess.” She finishes excitedly.

“And that would work?” He questions.

“Of course it will. I saw it in a movie once. Now come on, let’s go pick out flowers.” He doesn't have any time to protest before she’s dragging him out of the dorms.

They go to a small decor shop not far from UA. Mina had made a list of different flowers that had different meanings on their way there and was now wandering around the store trying to find fake versions of each flower. She decided not to get him real flowers yet as they may die before he is able to give it to the boy, which Kaminari had to admit was a good idea.

They made it back to UA just before curfew, bags full of different flowers (and some other stuff they saw and wanted to buy).

“That’s such a shit idea.” Kacchan grumbles as Mina finishes explaining why they had so many fake flowers.

“I think it’s cute.” Kirishima informs, arm leaning on the blonde’s shoulder.

“See, Eji likes my idea.” Mina says.

“That’s because your dumb boyfriend will agree with anything you say.” Kacchan argues, rolling his eyes.

“Ok, well then you come up with a better idea because last time i remembered you”- she wiggles her finger in front of his face- “are the single one that’s too scared to ask out Midoriya and I’m”- she points to herself- “not.”

“How are you even going to give them to him? And also how will he know it was you.” Sero chimed in, effectively defusing the bomb that is their friend.

“Well, we will put it in his locker and then after we give all the flowers, Kami will confess to him.” Mina replies, giving Denki a wink.

“And how do you know which locker is his, or what the combination is?” Bakugou criticizes.

“Don’t worry about that. I have many ways.” She dismisses and none of them question it, already use to their friends tactics.

“Well if you're going to give it to him now you might wanna be quick ‘cause the bell rings in ten minutes.” Kiri tells them, causing Mina to perk up.

“Oh shit you're right. Come on Kami, let’s go.” She says, grabbing his arm and leading him in the direction of the Gen Ed classrooms.

They had a free period when they decided to put the flower in the boy's locker as he would be in class, making it harder for them to be caught. They reach a row of lockers a little further down the hallway by the classrooms and Mina takes the lead and opens the locker.

“Here we go. Now let’s be quick before someone sees us.” She mumbles, mostly to herself, as she unzips her bag and pulls out a few plastic dwarf sunflowers that they tied together with a lavender ribbon as a makeshift bouquet.

“What do sunflowers even mean?” He asks. Mina hadn’t actually told him what any of the flowers they had bought yesterday meant.

She huffs, gently placing the flowers in the locker so as to not ruin it and shuts the locker before turning to him.

“They mean adoration . So you either think he’s adorable and cute or you respect him and love him deeply.” She exclaims as she leads them away from the Gen Ed classrooms and back to their own.

“Don’t you think that’s a bit much considering it’s the first one.” Denki worries.

“It’s fine, I doubt he’ll even understand what it means until we give him a few more.” She says dismissively.

Hitoshi stares down at the flowers in his hands, a questioning look on his face. He glances around trying to see if anyone was watching him that could indicate who had put these in his locker. Finding no one, he turns back to the flowers.

There weren't any notes in his locker, just four plastic sunflowers tied together with a purple ribbon. Even though he has made a few friends at UA and his class doesn’t despise him because of his quirk, he would have never expected to find flowers in his locker.

Somehow, the fact that he was given flowers is more surprising than the fact that someone knows his locker combination and broke into his locker.

The bell rings signaling the end of the school day and he makes the decision to either leave the flowers in his locker or take them with him. Shoving them into his bag he closes his locker and makes his way to the teacher dorms.

Who would give him flowers? Why would he be given flowers? He hasn’t had friends long enough to understand, properly, why people give each other things like flowers and chocolates when they aren’t even dating. The whole ‘secret admire’ thing kind of gives him to creeps. Having some random person you don’t know give you stuff and leave things in your bag or lockers seems off to him.

Did their parents never tell them not to take things from strangers? Isn’t it kinda stalking? How can you fall in love with someone you don't know and have never seen before? Hitoshi has never had a crush or boyfriend before but he knows he would not be able to fall in love with someone just because they give him things.

What if they are rude or a bad person? He doesn’t know anything about them, what they look like, their name, how old they are. In this school, the person could be anywhere between 15 to 18 years old and Hitoshi wouldn’t really want an 18 year old to be giving him flowers. Even if they are only 3 years older and he’s met people who are dating someone with a much bigger age gap, he still finds it kinda weird.

Maybe he should talk to his parents about it. They are teachers, they’d be able to figure out who it is. It’s not like he doesn’t appreciate the fact that someone gave him flowers, he does, but he would feel much better about this situation if they at least left a note telling him their name or something.

Maybe it’s a one off thing. Maybe they just thought it would be nice to give him flowers and they wont give him anything else. He supposes he won't tell his parents yet. It’s not like he’s in any danger at this moment, he thinks.
