It was almost the end of the Men's World Championships. Japan's Men's Volleyball National Team had finally made it to the Finals. It was going to be a battle for the gold against France. Energy and tension were up between the members. They've gone against France and barely made it. Now, the French team has enough knowledge to improve their arsenal against the Japanese team. In the gym, the members of the National Team are split into two teams for a practice match.
When Yaku digs the serve from Sakusa in a high pass, Atsumu instantly feels the heavy and sharp stare from his (favourite) spiker. He jumps up and sets it fast to Hinata, who spikes it on the back line where Sakusa and Bokuto are unable to dig it in time.
Atsumu wipes the sweat from his chin. He glances up and sees Hinata look at him with his tongue out to lick his lips.
'Brat.' He thinks of his Opposite as he tries to rub his pink cheeks with the back of his hands.
Hinata turns away with a smile. 'Cute.'
They continue like that for the whole day. An exchange of heated stares, knowing smirks, congratulatory touches that stay longer than with other members, and the slightly different cadence in the way they say each others name.
In the hotel room where they share a suite, the tension is broken when Hinata comes out of the bathroom wearing a large blue shirt. Atsumu stares and Hinata returns it. That blue shirt was the one Atsumu lent Hinata when the young spiker, still fresh in joining MSBY, stayed the night after a team dinner.
The world spun. Atsumu moves and Hinata falls.
