Beautiful Boy

Summary:

Beomgyu has a propensity for ruining everything good in his life. He tells himself he’s just beating it to the punch. Kill it before it kills you, right? But as soon as Yeonjun leaves, he wants him to come back. He’s never, ever wanted Yeonjun gone, and yet he can’t stop pushing when he means to say I need you.

It wasn’t always like this. He wants to go back. Back to late nights and cramming in a twin-sized bed and fearing the future instead of living it. It wasn’t always like this.

“When whatever you’re running from catches up to you again,” the boy says, interrupting Beomgyu’s motion of putting his headphones back on. “Just come back here.”

Chapter Text

You’re in a car with a beautiful boy, and he won’t tell you that he loves you, but he loves you. And you feel like you’ve done something terrible, like robbed a liquor store, or swallowed pills, or shoveled yourself a grave in the dirt, and you’re tired. You’re in a car with a beautiful boy, and you’re trying not to tell him you love him, and you’re choking down the feeling, and you’re trembling. But he reaches out and touches you, like a prayer for which no words exist, and you feel your heart taking root in your body, like you’ve discovered something you don’t even have a name for.

Notes:

Hello! A few things I want to address up top:
First, please mind the tags! this story deals with a lot of heavier content that is not confined to single scenes or chapters. because of this, please assume all tags apply throughout the entire work. additionally, tags (including the overall rating of the work) are liable to change! i will include a note at the top of the chapter if it necessitated tags being updated. take care of yourself first
Second, this story will deal with themes of religion and religious trauma. my writing on this is inspired by and comes from my personal experience with these topics being raised in Christianity, but does not directly reflect my personal views nor is it intended to be a commentary on religion as a whole.
Lastly, i don't have a set posting schedule for this fic. chapter count will be updated once i'm more sure (the thing is, the original outline was for three chapters. if i'd kept it that way, chapter 1 would have been like 50k. we live and we learn and we forget). i do yap rather excessively about my writing on my twitter, if you're ever curious for updates

With that being said, thank you for being here 🫶🏻 please feel free to tell me what you think if you're so inclined, i love this story dearly and am very excited to finally be posting it
