Work Text:

“Why the juice would you bring us all the way out here, Cunningham!”

“If you didn’t want to come to the forest in the first place then why did you come?”

A twig snapped under Howard’s foot, causing the two boys to jump.

“See! That is exactly why I didn’t want to come. I’ve got nothing against forests, unless, ya know, ITS 1 IN THE HONKIN MORNING!” Howard complained. Another twig snapped, this time under Randy’s foot, but neither of the boys flinched this time.

“Dude, if all you’re gonna do is complain, why don’t you leave. I’m not forcing you to continue.” Randy said

“FINE! I’ll leave!” Howard shouted, before turning around and walking down the path back to civilisation.

Recently a rumour has spread through out Norrisville high that some kind moth like creature they called “Moth Man” (wow what a creative name) was wandering the forests around Norrisville, and in an attempt to gain fame, Randy and Howard decided to track this monster down and obtain proof of its existence, but it seems it’s just Randy’s job now.

Randy took his phone out to start recording a video in case he does come by the moth man, but right when he was about to press the record button, he heard a twig snap. He whipped around to see who could have possibly caused that noise, but no one was there.

All of a sudden, a figure from above landed on the ground before him, the dark figure had a pair of feathery wings, fluffy antennae and two glowing red eyes. Before Randy stood the mysterious moth man.

Having nowhere else to run, Randy ran deeper into the forest, he could hear the moth man pursuing. Randy ran as fast as he could, to the point his lungs felt like they were going to explode. When he realised he didn’t hear the moth man anymore, he stopped and turned around, being met with only the darkness of the forest. Wait, did I actually out run it? He thought, but he was immediately interrupted when the moth man leaped from the trees above pinning him down. Randy was met with those same red eyes again, but this time he noticed small slit pupils staring directly at him. The beast raised one of its clawed hands, ready to slash at Randy’s throat, but then it suddenly froze and its pupils dilated.

“Randall?”

Randy immediately recognised the voice coming from the moth man, that accent, the use of his full name, it was Julian.

Julian immediately threw himself off and Randy sat up, rubbing the arm Julian held down (thats gonna leave some bruises). Julian immediately offered a hand to Randy, he accepted and let Julian pull him up on his feet. Julian’s hand felt… weird, like one of those kind of fluffy couches that you could draw patterns in just by stroking it.

“Julian, I- you’re the moth man?” Randy stuttered. Julian was just staring at the ground, panic in his eyes. “Julian?” The boy asked, Julian looked up at Randy before his focus quickly shifted to the hands they were still holding. The two teens quickly pulled them away from each other, Randy being glad it was too dark to see the red on his face.

“I suppose you’re correct.” Julian answered, looking away from Randy.

“Suppose? Is there any other moth men wandering around?” Randy had meant that as sarcasm, but Julian’s silence says that he might not be the only moth out and about.

“Wow, this is so bruce! I can’t- wait, did you try to… kill me?” Randy asked, he saw the regret flood into Julian’s eyes.

“Randall, I- I’m so sorry. I would have never attacked you if…” Julian sighed. “If my father knew someone was attempting to prove my- our existence, then he would pull me out of school, and take away my life. I just wanted to ensure that wouldn’t happen. What was I thinking attacking you, I knew I couldn’t do it.”

All this made Randy… sad, he felt bad for the moth, he didn’t like seeing Julian sad. “Julian, even though I know absolutely nothing about whatever this is, I promise I will keep all this moth business a secret.”

“Really, are you sure Randall?” Julian asked with some doubt in his voice.

“I’m great with secrets! You can trust me!” Randy said with confidence. Julian eyes seemed to dim in brightness when Randy said that, but they quickly brightened again when Julian started looking around in worry. “Father doesn’t usually come to the edge of the forest, but I think it’s a good idea for you to leave.” Julian explained.

“I agree, but uhm… You won’t mind showing me the way back would you?”
