Chapter Text
The invitation comes casually, offered with that effortless grace Seo-hyun applies to everything. “You’ll be more comfortable with us,” she says, as if it’s obvious. As if the idea of Hi-soo spending months in a sterile hotel is something she simply cannot allow.
They’re sitting together at a small, sunlit café not far from her studio, enjoying a quick meal. Seo-hyun’s hair is meticulously brushed as always, not a strand out of place, her tailored coat folded neatly over the back of her chair. She looks like she belongs here. Like she belongs everywhere.
Hi-soo hesitates, fingers tightening briefly around the ceramic cup in her hands. “It’s not a big deal,” she says. “I’ve lived in worse places while filming.”
“I’m sure you have.” Seo-hyun’s mouth curves in an almost-smile. Polite. Controlled. “But why settle when you don’t have to?”
It’s a well-disguised trap. Hi-soo knows better than to resist when Seo-hyun frames something like a matter of practicality.
And there’s no real reason to refuse. It would be easier—closer to the studio she will be filming most scenes of her next movie, and a reprieve from the loneliness and sterility corporate-sponsored hotels always offer. Besides, she tells herself, this is Seo-hyun. It’s not as if there’s anything to worry about.
Still, something unsettles her. The idea of stepping into the private world Seo-hyun shares with Suzy feels... intrusive. For almost two years now, Hi-soo has existed on the periphery—close enough to know the shape of their relationship but distant enough not to touch it. This is something else.
“It’s no trouble?” she asks.
Seo-hyun lifts an eyebrow. “Would I offer if it were?”
Of course not.
So Hi-soo agrees.

The house is beautiful, unsurprisingly.
A minimalist and modern retreat perched on the edge of the hills, where glass walls frame a sweeping view of the city right below. The structure is all clean lines and muted colors. Grays, deep greens, touches of warm wood. It smells faintly of pine cone and something softer, like white flowers. A home meant to be admired, clearly designed with taste and decorated by someone who knows their stuff. It’s not Hi-soo’s style; she is much more attuned to bright colors but it suits Seo-hyun so she likes it anyway.
Suzy greets her first, sweeping Hi-soo into a loose, friendly hug as soon as she walks through the door. She’s barefoot, dressed in soft cotton and loose curls, her laughter easy. “I’m so glad you came,” she says, pulling back just enough to give Hi-soo a warm once-over. “God, it’s been too long.”
Hi-soo smiles because it’s true—Suzy is as charming as ever but they don’t get to meet often. Most of what she knows about the artist, she has gleaned from Seo-hyun.
Seo-hyun doesn’t move to embrace her, but her smile is the one reserved just for Hi-soo. Her voice, when she speaks, is as smooth and precise as the house itself. “I’ll show you your room.”
Hi-soo follows, her pulse a fraction faster than it should be.

The guest room is simple and warm. The walls are a soft beige, and a thick rug covers most of the wooden floor. The bed is large, with white sheets and a light linen duvet. A knit throw rests at the foot. A small nightstand holds a ceramic lamp, casting a golden light and shadows on the wall, and making the room look more inviting. There’s a window with sheer curtains, and behind it, Hi-soo catches a glimpse of the garden.
Seo-hyun lingers a moment in the doorway as Hi-soo sets her bag down by the bed.
“I hope it’s comfortable,” she says. “Let me know if you need anything.”
Hi-soo glances back at her, intending to say something light and casual but her words catch in her throat. Seo-hyun is watching her, the sharp intelligence in her gaze softened just enough to make Hi-soo’s stomach twist. She has a way of looking at Hi-soo that makes the actress feel seen and cared for.
It’s nothing. It’s everything.
“I’m sure it’ll be perfect,” she manages.
Seo-hyun gives her the faintest nod before turning away, the sound of her slippers padding softly against the hardwood floor as she disappears down the hall.
Alone in the quiet, Hi-soo exhales, dragging a hand through her hair.
She’s been in this house for less than ten minutes, and already, it’s too much.

The first few days pass easily enough.
By day, Hi-soo is consumed with the demands of filming—long hours under the bright press of stage lights, the endless repetition of scenes until everything blurs. She’s grateful for the distraction.
In the evenings, she drifts into the rhythm of their household. Suzy makes everything feel easy as her host. She’s offering wine, teasing stories about her latest exhibition, and settling comfortably into Seo-hyun’s side without a second thought.
Seo-hyun, by contrast, is less showy with her affection, but no less present. She listens more than she speaks, her attention like a pointed light—too focused when it lands on Hi-soo, lingering in ways that feel… dangerous.
And yet, there’s nothing inappropriate. Nothing wrong.
Except for the way Hi-soo notices things she shouldn’t. Memorizes random bouts of conversations, small gestures, knowing smiles and amused glances. The way Seo-hyun unbuttons her cuffs at the end of the day, pushing the silk sleeves to her elbows as she pours herself a drink. The way her voice shifts and becomes softer, warmer when she speaks to Suzy in private moments. The way her eyes sometimes sweep over Hi-soo in those rare, unguarded seconds when no one else is watching.
At night, alone in the guest room, Hi-soo tries to push these thoughts aside. This arrangement is temporary. Practical. There’s no reason to let her imagination twist it into something it’s not.
And yet—
And yet.

It happens on the fifth night.
It’s late—well past midnight—and the house is quiet except for the occasional whisper of wind against the glass. Hi-soo is drifting in that soft, hazy place between waking and sleep when she hears it.
A sound, low and distant through the wall.
At first, it doesn’t register. But then another sound follows, soft and breathless, cutting through the silence of the night.
And suddenly, Hi-soo is wide awake.
