Chapter Text
Four sets of eyes bounced between one another uneasily. The whir of the practice room’s ceiling fan was the only noise cutting through the tension.
Unsurprisingly, Baku spoke up first.
“This isn’t exactly normal, is it huh?” He leaned back into the couch and placed his hands in his pockets, though the incessant bounce of his knee betrayed the attempt to appear composed.
Unable to help himself, Gotak flicked Baku on his temple, ignoring the hiss that accompanied it. “Of course this isn’t normal. When was the last time you saw a situation like ours?”
“I’ve seen it,” Juntae admitted quietly, bringing the group’s attention to him. “Well, I read about it more like, what I’ve been- well what we’ve been feeling towards each other.”
Had his eyes been focused on the others instead of his own nervously shuffling feet, he would have seen how fondly they looked at him from the admission. Because of course the first thing Juntae did when faced with something new was research.
“What you could call this um…” he paused to gesture between the four of them, “thing between all of us is polyamory.”
“Isn't that the thing where you have a bunch of wives, like a harem or something?” Baku interrupted.
“That’s polygamy” Sieun interjected, having finally decided to join the conversation.
“Sieunie’s right the difference compared poly-”
“Wait, wait, wait,” Baku interrupted. “Juntae, how come I don’t have a cute nickname like Sieun and Gotak!? Tak-ah? Sieunie? Where’s mine?” he pointed to himself with a pout.
“Baku are you actually choosing to bring this up right now? We can’t talk about this any other time? He’s been calling us that since the first week of us all becoming friends.” Gotak explained exasperatedly.
“That’s exactly why I’m bringing it up now. It's like this whole situation has given me carro-cavit-er what’s the word?” Baku stuttered, his eyes clenched as if his search for the correct word was physically paining him.
“Clarity?” Sieun answered with a sigh.
“Yeah that word!” Baku exclaimed. “Here I am confessing my feelings and I don’t even have a cute nickname. We haven't even begun to explore this relationship and I’m already being neglected!” he whined.
“Oh my god,” Gotak muttered to himself in disbelief. “Juntae please give him a nickname before I stop having feelings for him and we can continue this conversation.” he begs massaging his temples.
Baku looked at Juntae with hopeful eyes that reminded him of his elderly neighbor’s corgi he’d sometimes offer to walk.
“Um, well we don’t really call you Humin that often. So instead of Baku, maybe…Kuku?” Juntae looked to check Baku’s reaction only to be picked up from his seated position into a tight bear hug and spun several times.
“It’s so cute! You even made mine unique!” He carefully placed Juntae back on his feet, placing his hands on his shoulders to look him in the eyes. “I seriously love it Juntae, thank you.” He ruffled Juntae’s hair gently before returning to his seat next to Gotak.
Juntae cleared his throat and rubbed his cheeks in an attempt to relieve them of the tingling warmth they’d taken on. “Ok so um… where were we?
“Polyamory” Sieun answered softly.
“Yes, thanks Sieunie, always keeping us on track,” he complimented with a bright smile in Sieun’s direction where he leaned against the lockers. Sieun couldn’t hold back the slight upturn of his lips accompanied with a light blush decorating the tips of his ears.
“But polyamory is when multiple people are all in a relationship together. That’s the simple definition, I guess. It’s not exactly something that doesn’t exist in Korea, there’s probably someone in a situation like ours, it’s just not socially common. It’s a lot more common in the west. The monogamous relationships are still considered “the usual” but it’s still much more accepted. It’s represented in movies, shows, and there’s like online communities and everything. So uh…yeah There’s obviously more intricate details to it, but we can get to that later.” Juntae finished. He scanned everyone’s faces, nervously waiting for a response.
Once again, Baku spoke up first, “So should we kiss or…” he trailed off.
Gotak sighed. “Seriously? That’s all the explanation you needed you fucking pervert?”
“How does that make me a pervert!? He shouted in offense. “You all like each other, I like all of you and you all like me.”
“Unfortunately,” Gotak muttered under his breath.
“All I’m saying is why do we need to complicate things. We can just keep treating each other as we already did, just maybe it’s a date instead of hanging out and we hold hands, kiss, an-and other y’know, stuff.” He cleared his threat at the end, now taking on his own blush at what was left unsaid.
“I agree with the pervert,” Gotak agreed, raising his hand up.
“I told you I’m not a pervert!” he whined standing up from his seated position. “Why should we demonize something completely natural? We’re all guys, teenage guys at that! Even Sieun has probably had an explicit thought here and there.”
“Mmhhmm mmhhmm, anyways.” Gotak hummed completely ignoring Baku’s words and the sulking that followed. “Juntae, what do you think? Should we try it” His tone was as soft as it always was when addressing him. It was nearly impossible for Gotak to speak to him any other way.
Juntae twisted back and forth in the rickety office chair that had become his favorite seat after spending so many afternoons in the basketball team’s practice room.
“I spent so much time freaking out over the fact that I’d developed feelings for the three of you. It kinda felt like I was being unfair to all of you even though none of you had any clue. Now knowing that we all feel the same; I don’t want to sound too cheesy but it kind of feels like fate, y’know? And I guess I wanna see where fate takes me or us, I guess. So yeah, let’s do it.” He finished his short speech with a bright smile that Baku and Gotalk couldn’t help but return.
With the three of them in agreement there was only Sieun left to make his decision. And while they would never say as much, his decision made them all the most anxious. He’d maintain his silence for most of the conversation and to most it would seem typical given the weight of their conversation. But Sieun’s silence had always meant something different than everyone else’s.
“Before…,” he paused to release a shaky sigh. “Before Suho’s accident, I can’t speak on how he felt, but I’d started to feel a lot of non-platonic things for him. And back then feeling much of anything had become pretty difficult. I didn’t think it was possible to feel worse than I did before meeting him, and then he-” He stopped to try and clear the lump that had begun to form in his throat.
“Sieun, you don’t have to push yourself to talk about this. A yes or a no, and we’ll take you at your word.” Gotak offered, his face pinched with concern.
Sieun shook his head, taking another sigh before responding. “No it’s ok, I want to talk about this, need to. I spent almost a year being an even emptier shell of myself where the only thing I felt like I knew for certain was that everything was my fault. And then I met the three of you and suddenly I didn’t know anything and I started to feel again. But I felt so fucking guilty; I can’t lie to you and say that I know where I stand with it all. But what I can say right now, is that I want to be selfish for once and take the chance that’s right in front of me. So my answer is yes.”
The three boys were stunned into silence. Though it wasn't due to Sieun’s words, nor the tears that were now streaming down his flushed cheeks, but from the beautiful smile gracing his face.
Chapter 2
Summary:
“You look like a tomato Sieunnie. Are you okay?” he asked, waving his hand back and forth in front of Sieun’s face. It seemed to do the trick as Sieun cleared his throat, and nervously rubbed his hands up and down on his pants.
“Hey, why does Sieun get a kiss on the cheek, and we only got it on our ears.” Baku whined from behind.
“That’s seriously the first thing out of your mouth after you decided to come back to reality?” Sieun said flatly.
“I mean Gotak feels the same, he just won’t say it.” Baku argued.
-Shenanigans and first kisses ensue!

Chapter Text
Sometimes you never know just how much you needed something until it’s right in front of you.
For Juntae, Gotak, and Baku, their ‘something’ had presented itself in the form of Sieun’s smile. Most would consider it strange to have maintained a friendship with someone for almost a year and have never seen them smile. However, it was something they’d sort of just accepted about Sieun at a certain point.
For them it was enough to hear the quiet huffs he accidentally let slip, the slight raise at the corners of his lips and the apples of his cheeks, or the way he managed to make his eyes brighten while the rest of his face remained dull. And now he stood in front of them blindingly bright. Even if they were never on the receiving end of it again, he’d given them enough light for a lifetime.
Without a word, Baku stood from the couch and walked across the room to stand in front of Sieun. His hands took place on Sieun’s cheeks; gently he wiped away the droplets gathered at his chin and the tracks they left in their descent down his cheeks.
“C’mon Sieun-ah, you’ll ruin that ice prince persona of yours.”
The attempt at his usual teasing proved to be a failure when tears of his own began to slip from his eyes. Despite it all, his smile remained; he sighed in defeat. “Ahhh, I'm being super uncool right now. I haven’t cried since I was in second grade and here I am-”
“Dude, you're still saying that? I've seen you cry dozens of times since I've known you,”Gotak interrupted.
“And you cried when I was in the hospital.” Sieun chimed in.
“Exactly, Juntae probably saw you cry too-now why are you crying?” Gotak asked exasperated, turning to face Juntae and bringing Baku and Sieun’s attention with him.
“It’s just,” Juntae paused as sniffles overtook him and he attempted to wipe his eyes with his glasses still on. “Sieunie’s words, an-and he smiled for us, and Baku. How are you not crying Tak-ah, I think something’s wrong with you.”
Gotak cocked his head back in offense. “I’m perfectly normal, you guys just have overactive tear ducts or something”
“Mmmm I’m more inclined to agree with Juntae, he is the wisest of us all. You should seriously get that checked out Gogo. I read that people who don’t cry often tend to die early.”
“First of all Baku, you read that nowhere because you don’t read anything that isn’t 90% pictures. You can give me advice when you get your IQ above 100.”
“Hey! I told you to stop mentioning that; I didn’t get to finish like a third of the test!” he exclaimed. He released his hold on Sieun to snatch Gotak into a chokehold.
Despite the uncomfortable position Gotak released a bark of laughter at the excuse. “You had two hours and everyone around you finished with time to spare.” he gritted out before he butted his elbow into Baku’s side allowing him to pull free and place Baku in the same hold.
Sieun watched as they continued to bicker and grapple, a now smaller but still fond smile on his face. However, he was caught off guard at the feeling of arms wrapping around his torso and silky soft hair tickling the side of his face. Without a word Sieun wrapped his arms around Juntae’s shoulders, tilting his head into Juntae’s hair to inhale the peachy scent of his shampoo. They didn’t speak; they never had to really.
They broke apart at the sound of dual screams from Gotak and Baku. They’d graduated to hair pulling now, eyes staring daggers at each other while yelling for the other to let go first.
“Gosh they ruin everything I swear; how are we supposed to break them up this time.” Juntae whined.
Sieun sighed before walking where the two stood crouched in a tangle of limbs. Without any warning, he pinched as hard as he could onto the tip of their ears; he even twisted for good measure. Instantly their expletives toward one another switched to yelps of pain.
He looked to Juntae, who watched both entertained but concerned. He nodded his head at Juntae to beckon him over, which he quickly followed.
“Go Hyuntak, Park Humin, I’m going to count to three and on three you will let go of each other's hair and untangle. Understood?” Juntae instructed, attempting to put on a stern face.
Instead of immediate agreement he was met with a jumble of indiscernible words as each boy attempted to plead their case of who started what and who should be forced to let go first. Juntae sighed and looked at Sieun who responded by twisting their ears tighter, instantly ceasing their chatter to plead for mercy instead.
“Sieunnie isn't going to let go until you both do. Now on three. 1…2…3…”
Reluctantly, they released their grips on the other’s hair before unwrapping their limbs from the impressive pretzel they’d managed to tangle themselves into. Keeping his end of the deal, Sieun released his grip on their respective ears, rolling his eyes at the sighs of relief and immediate rubbing on the tender area.
“No more fighting, okay. That was Sieunnie going easy on you both believe it or not. Next time you both won’t be so lucky.” he warns.
“That was going easy on us? I can’t even feel the top of my fucking ear anymore.” Baku whined. “I’m not bleeding, am I?” he asked Gotak frantically, tilting his head so he could get a better look. Gotak shook his head before offering a view of his own ear for Baku to check.
“Both of you lean down.” Juntae urged only to roll his eyes when the two looked at him warily. “I’m not going to do anything, I promise. Just lean down please.” He made sure to soften his voice even more than his usual tone.
Of course it worked like a charm, never able to deny Juntae anything Baku and Gotak leaned down to be at eye level with Juntae. Juntae offered them both a smile for following his directions before placing a hand under their respective chins. Starting with Gotak on his left he placed a light kiss on his pink tinged ear before turning to Baku and doing the same. When he leaned back he couldn’t stop himself from giggling at their shocked expressions.
“There, a kiss to make it better. Now stop whining and like I said, no more fighting.”
Instead of responding, they stood frozen in place, eyes widened, and mouths ajar.
“When did you gain so much confidence?” Sieun questioned with surprise of his own, that small fond smile resting on his lips again. Juntae could only hope it would become more frequent as their relationship progressed.
Juntae twisted back and forth in place, suddenly feeling shy. “I don’t know, putting everything out in the open, it just feels like this weight I’ve been carrying is gone. I think I may have broken them though.” he says with a chuckle. “Oh! Wait a second.”
Before Sieun could inquire into what had caught Juntae’s attention, he felt the soft press of his lips on his cheek. It was light and chaste-too chaste in his opinion-but its effect was anything but. A full blush overtook him from the neck up, and Juntae giggled at the sight.
“You look like a tomato Sieunnie. Are you okay?” he asked, waving his hand back and forth in front of Sieun’s face. It seemed to do the trick as Sieun cleared his throat, and nervously rubbed his hands up and down on his pants.
“Hey why does Sieun get a kiss on the cheek and we only got it on our ears.” Baku whined from behind.
“That’s seriously the first thing out of your mouth after you decided to come back to reality?” Sieun said flatly.
“I mean Gotak feels the same, he just won’t say it.” Baku argued.
Where they’d have expected Gotak to vehemently disagree and instigate another bickering fit,, he was surprisingly silent. Instead he chose to avoid any eye contact, shuffling from one foot to another.
“Well y’know, it's only fair that everyone receives the same treatment y’know.” he mumbled.
“See!” Baku exclaimed childishly pointing at Gotak, his lips pursed in a pout. “And…honestly, we kinda deserve a real kiss after being left out like that. Don’t you think so Gogo.”
Gotak nodded in agreement, his head bobbing so quickly it’s a wonder he didn’t topple over.
Sieun and Juntae didn’t respond at first, looking to each other in a silent conversation. And unfortunately, their faces gave nothing away, leaving the other two boys to fidget with unease.
Had they gone too far?
Had they made them uncomfortab-
“Okay,” Juntae said simply.
“Huh?” Baku and Gotak said simultaneously
“We have to kiss for real at some point, it doesn't have to be some organic romcom moment.”
“How do four people even organically initiate a kiss?” Juntae asked no one directly.
Sieun only shrugged in response.
Gotak cocked his head back slightly in surprise, “Hmm, I honestly wasn't expecting you guys to be so agreeable.”
“Same, I honestly don’t know where to go from here cause I thought Sieun was just going to hit me again.”
“I didn’t hit you, I twisted your ear” Sieun stated plainly, just barely stopping himself from rolling his eyes.
“Okay and it fucking hurt, what happened to your aversion to violence?”
“We’re leaving.” Sieun sighed, turning to pick up his bag.
“Wait wait wait, I’m sorry. I’m sorry! I’ll shut up so we can kiss.”
Sieun held Baku’s gaze with squinted eyes in warning for a few moments but eventually tossed his bag back into the corner. “That’s what I thought. Now let’s do this.”
“You’re so unromantic,” Baku mumbled under his breath, which luckily went unheard by Sieun.
“So do we all just like, huddle up and put our lips together at the same time or….” Gotak questioned.
“Tak-ah we don’t all have to be lip to lip at once.” Juntae chuckled at the ridiculous suggestion. “We just-I don’t know, take turns but everyone gets a chance to kiss everyone at some point.”
“Huh, yeah that does make more sense.” he said to himself.
“Why the fuck would your mind even go there as an option.” Baku asked, his head tilted and brows furrowed as he waited for Gotak to answer.
“I don’t know. Arent you supposed to be to be shutting the fuck up? What’s your answer to that since you want to play twenty questions?”
They were almost to the nose now, Gotak having pushed his way into Baku’s space and locking into a standoff of who would answer who first. To an outside observer of their exchange, it seemed unfathomable that these were two people in a romantic relationship. Juntae, however, had decided this was the perfect time to cut their little staring contest short. He promptly walked the short distance across the room to where they stood, rose slightly onto his toe to grab the back of their heads, and pushed forward, effectively pressing their lips together.
The noise both made in the back of their throats could be described as a stifled burp.
“Less bickering, more kissing. I’m going to remove my hands now, okay?”
His hands came back to his sides and his heels dropped back to the floor. Baku and Gotak slowly separated their lips. A few beats of silence pass before someone speaks.
“Dude, your lips are really soft,” was all Baku said before wrapping one hand around the back of Gotak’s neck and pulling him in for another kiss. Gotak released another grunt of surprise, though not wanting to be outdone this time he returned the kiss with vigor. It played out more like a competition than a kiss, neither relenting in their pursuit to lead, and their hands on each other acting as restraints to gain the upper hand.”
“I’ve never seen a kiss so aggressive.” Juntae whispered with concern.
“It looks like it hurts,” Sien commented with a frown.
Eventually the kiss slowed to a stop, the last one surprisingly tender. That is before Baku licked a line from the bottom of Gotak's cheek to his eyebrow. Gotak recoiled at the sensation, before pushing Baku away completely.
“Ew you disgusting prick!” he shouted, using the sleep of his hoodie to wipe his face
“We just swapped a bunch of spit and you’re gonna get all prickly over that?”
“Us kissing and you licking all over my face like an untrained dog are not the same thing!”
“Yeah well there’s a lot more where that came from.” he turned to Juntae and Sieun who’d been watching them with amusement. “Who’s next?” He asks.
Juntae stepped back to hide behind Sieun slightly. “Are you going to kiss us just as rough?” he asked apprehensively.
“No no no, we’ll be on our best behavior, you guys can set the pace and everything. I promise“ Gotak quickly chimed in with an encouraging smile which Juntae returned.
“I’m with Gogo, we’ll be perfect gentlemen. So how should we-” his words were cut short as Sieun’s hands this time wrapped around the back of his neck and pulled him down to his height. His arms instinctively wrapped around Sieun’s waist; causing Sieun to shudder at the foreign sensation.
“You lick me, I stab you. Understood?” he threatens to which Baku nodded dumbly in response. Despite his threats, Baku could see Sieun’s unease, he was just better at hiding it. And so Baku would take this all as slow as Sieun and Juntae needed just as he’d promised..
The first touch of their lips is soft, shy even. Baku pushed forward to nuzzle his nose against Sieun’s, making sure to stay gentle. He was rewarded with Sieun nudging before pushing back in for another more firm kiss, and another, and another until they were moving as if they’d done this a thousand times.
Baku resisted the urge to follow as Sieun pulled back first. Their gaze met and he only hoped his desire wasn’t so blatantly showing on his face. He wanted more, so much more. But he’d made a promise, so he waited patiently for Sieun to decide what's next.
Sieun craned his head to where Gotak and Juntae stood only a step away locked in a kiss of their own, slow but passionate. Sieun smiled at the sight of Juntae standing on the tips of his toes to meet Gotak in the middle. They both pulled away with a slight gasp, having forgotten the need for air much to their embarrassment.
Juntae turned, feeling the heat of Sieun’s gaze; his cheeks somehow managing to erupt in a deeper blush at the attention. Sieun put his hand out in Juntae’s direction, urging him to come forward. Juntae’s eyes widened at the gesture, but he quickly took it, trusting Sieun completely.
Sieun released Juntae's hand to cup his face, brushing his thumb back and forth in a gentle caress. He watches Juntae’s eyes linger on his lips, teeth worrying his own lower lip. Sieun leaned forward, slow and deliberate, giving Juntae a chance to pull away if he needed to. Gotak and Baku’s promise was just as much his as it was theirs. But Juntae didn’t pull back; their lips connected and Sieun was immediately by the taste of peaches. Where he’d usually found quiet amusement or comfort in Juntae’s many fruity accents, today it was intoxicating.
He pushed forward for another kiss, this time slotting their lips together completely. Juntae gripped Sieun’s hand that was still holding his face. His short nails pressed into the skin of Sieun’s wrist and he unconsciously released a breathy mewl. The sound was heard by all three of them and they collectively tensed. The room’s temperature felt as if it had suddenly skyrocketed, all from a single moan.
In a fit of confidence surprising even himself, Juntae pushed forward for another kiss. When his lips parted for another he was met with a warm tongue easing its way into his mouth. He wouldn’t have been able to answer why if asked but his immediate instinct was to suck. Sieun grunted in surprise before releasing a low groan. He pushed his tongue deeper, breaking free of Juntae’s hold and properly licking into Juntae's mouth.
Sieun felt a hand cup under his chin to pull him away from Juntae. He didn’t get a chance to see who it was before a new set of lips overtook him, forgoing the pleasantries of slow soft pecks and immediately licking into his mouth. He could tell it was Gotak by scent alone. He always had a subtle flowery scent. During an afternoon cram session his mother had told them it was from his favorite detergent; she’d even shown them the container despite Gotak's vehement protests. The bottle was a nauseating hot pink with a stuffed puppy on the front laying in a patch of various flowers. Baku had made fun of him for a week straight and still did when he felt as if Gotak had experienced too much peace that day. Funnily enough, Baku himself was the second most prominent scent that clung to Gotak. For all that they fought, he stuck to the other boy like a bee to honey.
The sound of lips smacking to the right of him caught his attention and he opened his eyes to see that Baku had pulled Juntae into a passionate kiss of their own. Baku’s tight grip had Juntae’s arms pressed tight between their chests; his hands gripped the front of Baku’s shirt as he released several high mewls unconsciously. If he could hear himself he’d have surely spiralled into a fit of unnecessary apologies out of embarrassment.
Sieun cupped both sides of Gotak’s face before moving his lips slower and slower in an attempt to Gotak’s pace. And just as they’d said, as they’d promised, Gotak followed his lead until their lips were moving in tandem, slowly easing into soft pecks. When they finally pulled apart, they both turned to see Baku and Juntae in a similar position.
“That was….was um…” Gotak spoke up first.
“Really good.” Juntae responded with a shy smile.
“Yeah, that" Sieun chimed in, clearing his throat of an imaginary tickle.
“Should we go around the room and discuss our favorite parts?” Baku questioned.
“Like a performance review?” Juntae asked, not entirely against the idea.
“Why would we-no, we’re not doing that.” Sieun sighed with exasperation.
“Yeah like that! Aigooo you always know the right words for things Juntae.” Baku gushed, ruffling Juntae’s hair playfully. “I’ll go first.” He excitedly proclaimed, with a single clap of his hands.
“Park Humin-” Sieun warned.
“I think Sieun and Juntae were really hot when they kissed.” he stated simply, looking between Juntae and Sieun. Juntae blushed at the statement and Sieun responded only with a deep eye roll and another sigh. “Wouldn’t you agree with Gogo?”
“Mmhhmm mmhhmm” Gotak answered, nodding his head in quick succession, eyes closed as if he were pondering something intensively.
“Pervs,” Sieun muttered under his breath.
“What’s so pervy about expressing our appreciation for our boyfriends. It was a 10/10 watch, no notes. Gotak, however, there’s room for improvement I’ll say,” he said, feigning distaste at the memory in an attempt-that will work-to rile Gotak up.
“You use your teeth too much.” Sieun interjected.
“I kinda agree, the first two times are nice but you get a little um….excited by the third bite.” Juntae added reluctantly, unable to meet Gotak's gaze as his face erupted in shocked offense.
“I am a great kisser. In fact I am the only one here who kissed someone before this.”
“Mmmmm that may be true but did they give you a review like we did? I don’t think so. Maybe it wasn't as good as you thought? I can only imagine what that poor soul had to endure.” Baku goaded.
“I’m going to kick you as hard as I possibly can in the next five seconds, so I suggest you pull out your fingers and start counting down.” Gotak warned, pushing into Baku’s space.
“Jokes on you, I can do that in my head now.” Baku rebutted, pushing even closer to the point that their noses touched.
“That’s not a flex when you’re a 17 year old high school senior.”
Sieun and Juntae released a collective sigh as they watched Baku and Gotak spiral into another squabble.
“I honestly think they ended up like this in every other conversation that they have.” Juntae mused.
“Hopefully they’ll just start making out again and we can walk home in peace. Let go.” Sieun directed, picking up his bag and ushering Juntae out of the practice room.
20 seconds after they’d left the practice room, Gotak and Baku would finally notice that their boyfriends were missing. They’d scramble to grab their belongings still bickering over who’d chased them away while rushing after them and shouting for them to wait up.
They didn’t.
Notes:
Alrighty! I hope you all enjoyed this. I was literally spiraling trying to maneuver that make out in my mind to work. I was just as confused as them forreal. The sheer amount of willpower it took to get this done and stop letting the unproofread draft keep deleting is monumental. Hoping the feeling of accomplishment, I get from posting this will act as a catalyst to finish and post all my other 3/4th finished WIPs. We shall see.
