Work Text:
It's hard to parse, when Kris' feelings are their own. Sometimes, not so much, when the SOUL inside them differs greatly in opinion, like... right now. They're outside, having dealt with the Dark World in the church, and it rains. It rains not hard, not light, but somewhere more... in the middle. The satisfying sound as each drop hits the sidewalk, the road, the buildings, the trees, it feels almost serene. But the SOUL, Kris can feel it thrumming, melancholy practically radiating off of it. And in effect, it may as well be, a single tear forming in Kirs' eye. It was not theirs.
The SOUL was- What was this feeling? Remorse? Sadness? Longing? They couldn't tell, but it was palpable, as it made them slowly walk back through town, taking the time to look at things, swinging by the lake. Susie and Kris both have a seat, gazing out as drops create ripples in the water; a mesmerizing display. They look over at her, and she briefly meets their gaze, flashing a wide grin, with narrowed eyes... Angel above, if there was anything to thank the SOUL for, it was her. In the span of three days, she's become one of their greatest friends, it's- It's almost hard to believe.
She's amazing. In the moment after their eyes meet, Kris doesn't know what to do with themself, and neither does the SOUL. A second tear forms, mirroring its other. ...Their heart hurts as it sinks in that, no matter what happens, no matter how bad things become, in this moment, right now...
They are loved. Not just loved, but they feel loved, which are two entirely different things. And for the first time in ages, that sensation, their heart overflowing with the compassion of others, Kris finds it... isn't fleeting.
Their shoulders relax, as they take in the sounds around them, content in the presence of their friend.
