Chapter Text
The stadium was brightly lit as the souls of their fans supported the girls. The honmoon sparkled as a multicolored dream, and Mira and Zoey shared a glance. They knew that they were going to make it– at this point in their careers, as both stars and hunters, they could feel the tingle of success.
Just hours ago, they had felt betrayed and confused after learning about Rumi’s hidden patterns, but now the three stood together, like they always had. They all had their secrets, why should Rumi’s be any different? They had always been stronger together, finding their own harmonies, and this was no exception. They had to work together to finish Gwi-Ma.
As Gwi-Ma’s flames started to fade, Zoey looked to the center stage, where Rumi fought, in tears, her sword protecting her from the bright blaze. Jinu stood, separating her from the oncoming burning red; his shoulders were the first to be taken. It was only moments until he was gone, leaving Rumi wrecked. Zoe and Mira looked on at their Rumi, someone that they loved so dearly, as she broke down. It had been less than a day since they had even found out that Rumi had been working with Jinu but Mira instantly understood– she was an expert at reading people, after all.
Rumi and Jinu were one in the same, with their beautiful glowing patterns. That connection between the two of them was different from the love that Mira and Zoey could show Rumi. They could care for her so deeply, as best friends and lovers, but they could never truly understand being entwined with Gwi-Ma.
As Jinu’s soul moved into Rumi’s sword, strengthening the destruction of Gwi-Ma, Rumi looked back to Zoey and Mira. Back to her girls. The three were beaming, as the Honmoon began to shimmer even brighter, as Gwi-ma finally began to fade. They ran to one another, grasping to be held. Tears of joy and exhaustion ran down their faces, mixing with sweat, and they knew it was over. They could finally see the future of a safe and protected world.
Even as they cried together, Mira began to notice that something was wrong. She looked around at the two girls that she had loved for so long, and her eyes widened in fear. She shook Zoey to get her attention, and the two watched as Rumi began to fade, following Gwi-Ma’s defeat.
“Rumi!” They both shouted, reaching out to try and hold on to her.
“No, no! I finally beat him. This– I did it! This isn’t fair!” Rumi began to sob.
Mira began to break “No! Rumi, no. You did! We did. This… We…”
The sound of Zoey and Rumi’s wails echoed in Mira’s ears as she watched in horror as Rumi watched her hands fade into nothing. All she could do is stare; this was something they had never expected. How could they fix this? Gwi-Ma had already been beaten, what more could they do?
Suddenly, there was a laugh, as Rumi shrieked. Gwi-Ma’s disembodied voice chuckled, “An eye for an eye.”
Rumi continued to dissolve into red smoke, and she did her best to say goodbye. She kissed both Rumi and Mira, desperately sharing her love.
“I love you both so much. You are everything to me, don’t forget that. I’ll… I’ll be back. I swear it. I love you, I love you–”
That was it for Mira, as she fell to her knees, still hugging what was left of Rumi. She begged and cried, and even in this moment, Rumi, whose head finally started to fade, held both Mira and Zoey, comforting them. Always the leader, she remained strong for the the others, wiping their tears softly.
Zoey sniffled “We will fix this. We won’t leave you with him. We can fix it.”
“I love you both. I’m sorry,” Rumi’s near silent voice whispered into the space between them.
Mira and Zoey stayed on the stage floor, collapsed and breathless. Their sobs hadn’t quieted in the hour since Rumi had faded and they clung to each other. The crowd had dissipated after Bobby had Security clear out the venue. He had come to them, trying to take them home, but neither of them would move. They couldn’t leave the last place they had kissed Rumi, and they certainly couldn’t go back to their home. They couldn’t go back to the place where the three had fallen in love, where they had shared both their joys and sorrows. There was a gaping whole in their hearts, and Mira knew that the moment they left, their fans would expect her to pull together, and to pull Zoey together, and she just couldn’t face it. She couldn’t do it.
