Work Text:
The car comes to a sharp halt on the side of the dirt road as Karasu throws the ignition into park. It’s late afternoon, and the hot rays of the sun filter through the trees of the forest surrounding them. The sight is a breath of fresh air, far from the typical chaos and rush of city life.
“I’m so ready to get out of this car right now,” Karasu says, unbuckling his seatbelt with relief. “Ya managed to replay the same Lil Peep song, like, five times, bro.”
“Yeah,” Otoya says, hopping out of the car and walking to the trunk. “It’s called curating a vibe, dude.”
Karasu snorts and follows Otoya around to the back of the car. “Let’s just hope that yer packing is better than yer vibe curating.”
Karasu peers in as Otoya opens up the trunk, eyes zeroing in on the ziploc bag full of weed. “Starting off strong, man,” Karasu says, patting Otoya on the back. His eyes land on some kind of canvas material rolled up next to Otoya’s backpack. “What is that?”
“It’s a tarp, duh. In case it rains.”
Karasu straightens up, an anxious pit forming in his stomach. “And where’s the tent? I don’t even see any sleeping bags here.” Fuck, he swears if Otoya forgot something this important there’s just no hope left for him.
Otoya’s eyes light up with excitement. “I have something way better.” He unzips his backpack and pulls out two hammocks, still rolled up in their straps. “Check it out.”
Karasu stares at the hammocks, unsure what to say.
“C’mon, man. We’ve got bug spray, a shit ton of snacks, and three pre-rolls, plus the extra weed I brought for you,” Otoya says with a pout. “You’re welcome for that, by the way.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Karasu mutters. “Fine. But if I swallow a bug, I will murder you.”
“This is gonna be dope,” Otoya says confidently, ignoring Karasu. He slings his gear over his back and heads toward the trailhead.
Karasu groans and shuts the trunk, moving to follow Otoya. “God help me.”
–
The hike is about an hour long, but it’s easy. The trail they follow has a steady incline with a clear path.
“So, what made you wanna go camping?” Karasu asks after they’ve been walking for a while, casually brushing a low-hanging tree branch out of his face.
Otoya shrugs. “I just wanted to get away for a bit, I guess. Thought it’d be fun with you here.”
Karasu’s heart leaps.
No.
Fuck, no, it doesn’t leap.
It does jump a bit, maybe.
“Honestly, I’m glad we’re doing this. It’s good to get a break now that finals are over.”
Otoya’s face immediately pales at the mention of school. “Dude, I didn’t even study for most of mine. I’m so fucked.”
Karasu bursts out in a loud laugh. “No shit.”
They continue walking until they reach the campsite Otoya picked out. It’s tucked away, a flat stretch of dirt surrounded by a bunch of trees. There’s plenty of space to hang up their hammocks and get comfortable. More importantly, it gives them enough distance from the trail so they can smoke in peace.
Karasu scans the area and gives an approving nod. “Not bad, ‘Toya. Not bad at all.”
“Thanks, man.” Otoya grins wide, already slipping off his shoes and tossing his backpack to the ground.
Karasu spots two big trees that look like the perfect place to set up. He gets to work, unrolling his hammock and shaking out the straps. Meanwhile, Otoya is crouched to the ground, his speaker in one hand, frowning down at his phone in the other.
“Piece of shit…” he mumbles.
“I just love doing all the work here,” Karasu announces loudly, snapping Otoya out of his thoughts.
“Bro, the music is very important. Trust me.”
Eventually, Karasu gets both of the hammocks set up, one hanging above the other. He climbs into the hammock on top, figuring it’d be easier getting in there for him since he’s taller than Otoya.
He lies down and looks up at the sky. The sun hangs low, casting the world in a golden hue. There’s a slight chill in the air as the wind picks up a bit.
“Did ya bring blankets or anything?” Karasu asks, glancing down at Otoya, who is still messing with the speaker.
Otoya blinks slowly. “No. It’s been so hot out, I figured we wouldn’t want any blankets.”
“Shit. Hopefully it doesn’t get any colder, then. I didn’t even pack a hoodie.”
–
It gets colder. Like, way too fucking cold.
By the time the sun fully goes down, both of them are shivering in their hammocks. Otoya is using the tarp he brought like a blanket, but it doesn’t seem to be helping much. They’re passing a joint back and forth with numb fingers, trying to distract themselves from the dropping temperature.
Otoya sighs, shifting around noisily in his hammock below Karasu. “It’s fucking freezing, dude. Can you just get in here with me?”
“Huh?”
“We can share body heat. I don’t wanna die out here, man. I can’t die out here. There are so many dates I haven’t been on,” he whines dramatically.
“First of all, it’s like fifty degrees. Second, how the fuck would I even get into yer hammock?
“Just hold on to the sides and flip yourself over. I’ll help you out.”
Karasu thinks about it for a moment. He’s cold as shit, and Otoya does have the tarp with him.
“Okay,” he says, more to himself than Otoya. He feels way too stoned for this. “I’m gonna… I’m gonna do it now.”
Otoya laughs. “Come on, dude, you got this. Just roll over.”
Karasu grips the sides of his hammock tightly and rolls over before overthinking it. It’s fucking terrifying, and being high is just making the drop seem infinitely worse. His heart pounds loudly in his chest. He hangs upside down like some hybrid between a crow and a bat, eyes wide with panic as he stares down at Otoya, who stares back up at him with sleepy eyes.
“Hi,” Karasu breathes out.
“Sup,” Otoya replies, a dopey grin forming on his lips.
Then Karasu slips, losing his grip on the fabric of the hammock. He flops down onto Otoya with a punched-out “oof”. They both groan out of pain and shock, their limbs fused together from the proximity. The hammock jolts violently, nearly throwing them both out.
“Fucking ouch, bro,” Otoya wheezes.
“Shit, sorry,” Karasu mumbles sheepishly, scrambling to get himself off of Otoya. It takes a few tries, but he’s finally able to untangle himself enough to stop crushing him. They end up on their sides, facing each other. Karasu has one arm wedged under his head, with the other awkwardly thrown over Otoya’s hip. His body curves carefully around Otoya’s within the tight space they are confined to.
They lie there in silence for a few minutes, listening to the wind flowing through the leaves in the trees above them. Karasu feels a lot warmer now with the heat of Otoya pressed against him. The tarp actually does a pretty decent job of keeping in their body heat, too.
Karasu lets his eyes flutter shut, his breaths evening out. His limbs feel heavy, like he’s right on the cusp of falling asleep, when Otoya’s voice breaks through the quiet.
“I can feel your heartbeat,” Otoya murmurs all of a sudden, his voice so soft that it’s barely audible.
Karasu huffs out a surprised laugh, eyes still closed.
“Weird.”
“No, like—” Otoya shifts against him slightly, and Karasu feels the slow slide of his thigh against his own, heat radiating between them. “It’s kinda nice.”
A warm feeling settles in Karasu’s chest. He stills, peeking an eye open to get a look at Otoya in the dim moonlight. He’s not even doing anything special, just existing, but he looks so pretty, and Karasu is suddenly all too aware of every inch of space between them.
His arm is still slung across Otoya’s hip, and his fingers twitch before he slowly tightens his grip, thumb brushing the strip of skin exposed from where Otoya’s t-shirt has ridden up. Otoya hums, his eyes closed, a pleased expression on his face. His lips are parted just slightly, all pink and shiny-looking. Karasu swallows hard, overwhelmed with the urge to kiss them.
His hand slips beneath Otoya’s shirt before he’s able to stop himself, seeking more. His fingertips graze the soft skin of Otoya’s belly, touching him gently.
Otoya gasps softly, and the sound very nearly makes Karasu implode. He can feel Otoya’s muscles twitching beneath his touch. Otoya opens his eyes, searching, meeting Karasu’s in the dark. Karasu’s breath feels like it’s been snatched straight from his lungs. He stares back at Otoya, feeling himself drawn forward like he’s attached to some kind of magnetic pull. The closer he gravitates toward Otoya, the more he’s able to make out on his face, taking in his dilated pupils and flushed cheeks. Time stills as they breathe against each other's mouths, neither wanting to make the first move.
They both end up giving in, though, meeting in the middle for a soft, curious press of lips. It feels tentative at first, like they’re just testing something out. But then the kiss deepens, both of them parting their lips as they relax into it. Things soon turn desperate as their mouths start to devour each other with urgency, moving like they’re making up for lost time.
Otoya fists the fabric of Karasu’s shirt in both hands, pulling him impossibly closer. Their legs tangle, bodies molding together in the narrow space of the hammock. Karasu groans when Otoya shifts just right, dragging his hips up into Karasu’s in a slow grind that leaves them both gasping for air.
“Shit,” he breathes out against Otoya’s lips, pressing their foreheads together.
He kisses Otoya again, slower this time, like he needs to map out and memorize his mouth’s entirety. Karasu tilts his head, angling deeper, his hand exploring further beneath Otoya’s t-shirt until his thumb grazes over a pebbled nipple. Otoya shivers at the touch, making the prettiest sound Karasu’s ever heard. Karasu thumbs against his nipple again, just to hear the sound once more.
“Karasu…” Otoya sighs into his mouth, arching up against him. He lets out another quiet moan.
Karasu can’t help but smirk slightly at the reaction Otoya is giving him. He’s usually so unaffected by everything, which makes it that much more addicting to see him so vulnerable right now.
Karasu mouths at Otoya’s jaw, down his neck, kissing any and every place he can reach. “So fucking hot like this,” he mutters against his skin, voice gravelly with desire. Otoya flushes at the praise. They start moving together in a steady rhythm, the friction dragging between their thin shorts driving Karasu insane. He thrusts against Otoya roughly, grinding their erections together. Otoya cries out as Karasu curses under his breath in pleasure.
“Karasu, fuck, I-” Otoya pants, cutting himself off with a whine.
They keep rutting against each other, tension stringing tighter with each new movement. The hammock sways wildly beneath them, but nothing matters right now except for how insanely good Otoya feels pressed flush against Karasu.
The two of them chase after their release, frantic and desperate, lips finding each other in between every gasp and moan. Otoya whimpers against Karasu’s mouth, clutching onto his back. Karasu swallows the noise, crashing their mouths together in another sloppy kiss. He slides his hands down to Otoya’s ass, squeezing it possessively to pull him closer.
They fall apart like that, bodies twitching as they climax, lips still locked in a deep kiss. They slow down together as they make out lazily, recovering from their highs. Karasu’s fingers squeeze from where they rest on the curve of Otoya’s ass, keeping him close. Otoya tucks his head into Karasu’s neck and sighs contentedly. His breaths are soft and even now, lightly grazing Karasu’s skin.
The hammock creaks as it sways gently in the night breeze, the tarp crinkling softly. Karasu closes his eyes, pressing his nose into Otoya’s hair and inhaling, smelling the familiar scent of his shampoo. He smiles to himself, his heart feeling so light in his chest.
Lying there beneath the stars, tangled under that cursed tarp, Karasu doesn’t have a care in the world. With the chill of the night long forgotten, his senses are now completely overwhelmed with Otoya’s warmth. And he wouldn’t want it any other way.
