Work Text:
Mafioso wasn't one to get sick. He usually took care of himself and assumed his immune system was pretty strong.
Until today.
He had finished his last debt collection of the day, although that bastard put up quite the fight and left Mafioso injured pretty badly. What didn’t help was that it was thundering pretty heavily.
‘I’ll be fine…’ He thought to himself ‘It's just a little bit of water.’
After about 20 minutes of walking in the rain, he felt a bit stuffy. It was probably the cold air. Once he got home his nose would clear up.
Right?
After 35 minutes, he started to cough and sneeze.
That wasn’t good, was it? Ah, it's not a big deal, He probably just needs to get warm, his house wasn't that far, he’ll be fine.
Gaslighting himself worked for a good 3 minutes before his footsteps became sluggish and he felt weak.
He was definitely getting sick, and he was NOT happy about it.
Finally, after 45 whole minutes of walking in the rain and slowly getting sicker and sicker, he was home, he was happy about it, on the inside, sure, but on the outside, he looked extremely miserable.
He unlocked his house door, seeing Chance and his goons watching something on their TV.
It warmed Mafioso’s heart to see them bonding with each other, but they were supposed to be in bed by now.
Chance noticed Mafioso at the doorway and sighed, picking up the TV remote and turning it off.
“C'mon boys,” Chance started “ Mafioso’s home, y'know what that means."
“Yea what is that supposed to mean...” Mafioso asked loud enough for everyone to hear.
“It means, I promised them once you get home, I’d get them to bed.”
Mafioso was about to protest but Chance had already gotten the boys to their respective rooms and put them to sleep.
Chance had walked back down stairs, loosening his tie, “Now that they're asleep…”
The gambler was obviously about to make a suggestive comment before realizing Mafioso looked quite upset.
“Hey, you okay?” They asked, walking over to his husband, cupping his cheek, “You look exhausted. Did that last debt collection really tire you out that much?”
Mafioso sighed, leaning into his spouse’s touch before answering “Just… a bit sick is all.. It'll probably wear off tomorrow—”
Mafioso was cut off by his own sneeze, he swiftly turned his head away from the gambler, sneezing into his arm.
Chance raised an eyebrow and Mafioso cleared his throat
“Ahem… This is nothing but a minor set back, I’ll be fine, trust me”
Mafioso started to take off his coat but his sluggish movements were extremely noticeable.
Chance sighed before asking “Do you have any medicine?”
The mafia boss froze in place, slowly turning around to face Chance “Why would we need medicine..?”
“You’re doing a terrible job at hiding the fact that you're sick, so I’m taking care of you”
That sounded amazing to Mafioso, just the thought of Chance taking care of him while he was ill, probably getting more affection than usual.
He couldn't tell if it was the thought of Chance being affectionate that made him weak or him being sick but without hesitance, he leaned onto his lover, burying his face into their shoulder, mumbling softly
“I feel like shit.” And then, he passed out.
Great, he’s getting rest.
But how is Chance gonna carry someone as heavy as Mafioso?
“Uhhhhhhhh…”
They tried lifting the mafia boss, but to no avail. This is going to be frustrating.
Chance decided that he would've probably passed out with Mafioso if he tried bringing him upstairs, so he decided to carry him over to the couch instead.
That can't be that hard, can it?
It was. Extremely hard actually.
It took chance about 15-20 minutes to get him to the couch and he was already tired
“I can only imagine how agonizing that would be if I tried bringing him upstairs..” They mumbled to themselves before heading over to the kitchen and looking in the cabinets for some medicine.
Luckily, the gambler found some cough syrup. That's a good start.
Chance then got a table spoon and a cup of water for his lover and walked back into the living room.
He placed the items he had in his hands down on the coffee table before gently shaking Mafioso awake.
Mafioso let out a miserable groan before turning onto his side, his back now facing Chance.
Is he always this difficult when he’s ill?
“Five more minutes…” He mumbled grumpily
Chance sighed before talking gently, “Maf, you need to take medicine to feel better.”
“No I don't… I told you I'm fine…”
The gambler let out a laugh, Mafioso turned back around to face his spouse, wondering what was so funny.
“Do you remember what you told me before you passed out?”
Mafioso tried to recall but at the moment, he could barely remember anything, so he shook his head, “No.. what did i say again?” The mafia boss asked, tilting his head slightly
“Well you said something along the lines of… ahh.. What was it again? Ah right, ‘I feel like shit.’“
“..That was just me being dramatic, I'm fi—”
Mafioso sneezed again.
At this point Chance just found it adorable how his lover kept on trying to deny how sick he is.
“Alright Maf, let's make a deal, take your medicine and I'll cuddle you to sleep tonight, and who knows… i might even stay over again tomorrow”
That….. Wasn’t a bad deal.
Mafioso hesitated before sighing, sitting up and taking off his fedora.
“Fine, just.. Give me the god damn medicine already.”
Chance let out a short chuckle in triumph before pouring some of the cough syrup in the teaspoon and feeding it to Mafioso.
Good GOD was that medicine bitter.
Maybe it was him being dramatic but that medicine had to be the worst thing he’d ever tasted in his life.
He tried to hold back his reaction by keeping a poker face but the frown on his face made it obvious how he was feeling.
He never wanted to be sick again, this sucked.
Thankfully, Chance, being the most amazing and loving spouse that they are, gave Maf a cup of water,
The mafia boss gladly took the cup of water and gulped it down in a second,
Mafioso placed the cup down and then leaned on the gambler’s shoulder, looking a bit calmer.
Chance ran his fingers through Mafioso’s long hair, causing their husband to let out a content moan.
The gambler smiled softly before mumbling “Let’s get you to bed, okay?”
Mafioso nodded, reluctantly and slowly standing up, both of them heading to their shared bedroom.
He opened the door, immediately face planting onto the soft mattress with a miserable whine. He clambered onto his bed, reaching out for Chance to climb on.
“Alright, alright. I did promise you cuddles,” the gambler said before walking over and climbing in beside his husband. The mafia boss wrapped his arms around Chance, snuggling into their coat that they didn’t take off for reasons Mafioso did not know
“Well someone’s cuddly” they remarked with a teasing grin
“Hghh…shut it….” Mafioso grumbled, already getting drowsy due to the medicine.
Mafioso fell asleep not even a minute later, his snoring filling Chance’s ears
“Fuck what if I get sick too.” Chance thought before shrugging ‘Ah… screw it… who cares? Not me, that's for sure’

The next morning, Mafioso woke up feeling his lover's weight on top of him, he thought that he'd be the clingy one while being sick but he was wrong.
He shouldn't be surprised, Chance was always one for physical affection.
Mafioso then kissed Chance's forehead, wrapping his arms around their waist. The gambler stirred in his sleep, shifting his position so he was lying down beside his husband, snuggling into his waist, smiling contently in their sleep.
Mafioso smiled down at Chance feeling at peace.
Before remembering how busy he probably had to be today. He let out an upset groan, causing Chance to wake up. He rubbed his eyes sleepily, looking up at the other.
“Morning… what's with the groaning…?”
Mafioso hesitated before answering, “I have work, and I'm sick… I'm going to be so out of it today.”
“Ah ah ah,” Chance tutted drowsily. “I'm sure the boys will gladly help with that.. For now, don't worry about collecting debt, or rounds, or anything like that, just focus me and you, and the comfort of this warm bed”
Chance then nuzzled into Mafioso’s neck, kissing it gently, causing his Husband to let out a pleased hum, melting into Chance's embrace.
Maybe being sick wasn't so bad after all, minus the medicine.. And the chronic fatigue he was feeling.
