Work Text:

To you, it was far more favorable having Dorian around in his human form rather than those only seeing him in those uncomfortable glasses. This him was far better, made of flesh and blood that you could touch. Today had been normal for the most part and all was calm for the most part. Although, you had become rather upset due to losing your favorite stim toy. It had been this plastic rainbow slug that Dorian had gifted you randomly, so it held more value than being one of your favorite toys.

You laid on your back on the carpeted floor, headphones on and feeling really disappointed. Honestly, you feared that Dorian would be upset or mad at you for losing it, so when your lovely boyfriend had walked into the living room and saw you laying there, he gave you a simple wave. You motioned for him to talk.

"Do you mind if I sit next to you, or would you prefer to be alone?" Dorian asked.

"Go ahead," you patted the space next to yourself.

Dorian smiled a little and laid down on the floor next to you and as usual, he offered his hand to you since he knew how much you enjoyed fidgeting with his fingers. He shifted onto his side and held his head up, elbow on the floor.

"Is something the matter, love?" Dorian asked as he maintained a small smile, watching as you messed with his fingers.

"Please don't be mad," you said.

"You know I won't, darling. No matter what it is," Dorian assured you softly.

A sigh left your lips. "I, uh, lost the slug."

"The rainbow one I got you?"

"Yeah. I looked everywhere but can't find him."

Dorian thought for a moment then brought your fingers to his mouth and kissed them before pulling back. "I'll go looking for him. Do you need anything in the meantime?"

"A kiss?" You mumbled.

"I'll always give my sweet boy a kiss," Dorian softly chuckled. He leaned forward and planted a soft, chaste kiss to your lips before pulling back. "All right. I'll go look for your slug. You stay here and do what you need to," he squeezed your hand before letting go and getting up.

As much as you wanted Dorian to stay and bring some more comfort to you, you really wanted to be sure that the slug was safe and sound. You watched as your boyfriend left and went upstairs to start there. The bedroom was the obvious place and you had originally searched up and down for the little plastic guy. Dorian was rather quick to find the buddy chilling out under the bed and against one of the nightstand.

"Cheeky fella," Dorian murmured to himself.

He pulled the toy out from under the bed. He inspected it for any imperfections or anything of the sort. He quickly washed it off as the dust and dirt had got into the grooves. The last thing that Dorian wanted was you to abandon him or make you upset with the distasteful feeling of dirt and such. It took a bit to ensure that every inch of the rainbow buddy was fully dry but he managed pretty well. Dorian was proud of himself for finding your favorite little guy and was rather surprised you hadn't come up with a name for him quite yet.

As Dorian descended down the stairs and rounded the corner, he saw you still laying in the living room. He waved to catch your attention, beaming with joy. You noticed the rainbow slug in his hand as he presented it to you while kneeling down. You sat up and dragged Dorian into a hug. He reciprocated and added extra pressure to soothe your body down. There wasn't an inch of you upset so much anymore.

Not when you had Dorian and the little rainbow slug.

For the next hour, you spent it laying on the floor with Dorian, fidgeting with the slug and chatting with him about your special interest. He didn't interrupt a single bit and only asked questions when space allowed it. Dorian was calm, patient, and genuinely interested in what you were talking about. He only fell more in love with you like this.

Dorian swore he'd marry you one of these days.

Notes:

Now I wish I had one of those rainbow slug toys :')
