Work Header

The Council needs a break.

Summary:

Luke Skywalker is thirty five years old. He is the last Jedi, the most powerful Force-user in the galaxy, a Sithslayer and the son of the Chosen One.

He is also the founder of a new Jedi Temple on Yavin, a loving brother, uncle, brother in law, boyfriend and Master.

All these titles are equally impressive and important to Luke, but still, his status can’t prevent the man to be pulled into mysterious hyperspace together with his ship and be transported fifty-or-so years into the past.

Notes:

Hi. I want to say that this version of Luke is from the Legends that I haven’t read yet. Everything I wrote is from the media sources and reddit, so there may be some confusion. This story is a part of time traveling series, but you can read it as a stand-alone. Thank you, bye.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Luke Skywalker is thirty five years old. He is the last Jedi, the most powerful Force-user in the galaxy, a Sithslayer and the son of the Chosen One.

He is also the founder of a new Jedi Temple on Yavin, a loving brother, uncle, brother in law, boyfriend and Master.

All these titles are equally impressive and important to Luke, but still, his status can’t prevent the man to be pulled into mysterious  hyperspace together with his ship.

Luke remembers trying to hold the ship together with the Force, but it’s too late. He thinks how he won’t say goodbye to Mara, Leia, Han and Jacen. But he doesn’t have time to mourn his own death, because his vision gets blurry and he swears he feels himself reuniting with the force.

***

Anakin Skywalker is twenty two years old. He is a Jedi Knight, a war General, a hero of the Republic and the Chosen one.

He is also a loving husband, a good friend and the best pilot in the Temple.

All these titles are important to Anakin, but still, they don’t prevent him from touching an ancient Sith weapon and causing an earthquake on Ossus.

He has enough time to shout “Get down!” to Obi-Wan , before there are rocks and debris flying in their direction. They have enough concentration to control them, but Anakin still feels fresh blood trickling down his leg. Must have been a shard of glass. The man is already thinking about the options they have: run to the ship or wait until the earthquake settles, but he can’t take a decision. At least not until  he feels the ground become still, as it was before.

There is dust everywhere and Anakin would panic about not being able to see Obi-Wan, if only he couldn’t already feel his friend in the Force. He feels the Force scream around them, but it doesn’t feel dangerous. Anakin realises someone else is there, in the shadows of fallen dust, and his presence is powerful enough to send chills down his spine.

Anakin reaches for his lightsaber. “Master!” He shouts, and hears Obi-Wan shout back from a mile away. He doesn’t think his Master will get here fast enough to confront the stranger together, so Anakin ignites his lightsaber and yells at the unknown person.

“Who are you? Come out!”

Skywalker doesn’t hear him, but he certainly can see the man in front of him after a few seconds: he is wearing black robes that resemble Jedi’s, but Anakin doesn’t remember seeing any Jedi in the Temple wearing them.

“Introduce yourself.” Anakin says steadily. He still can’t see all of the man’s face, but from what he can see he gathers that the man is older than him, but not by a lot.

“Hello there,” The stranger says in a familiar to Anakin manner. “My name is Luke Skywalker, I am a Jedi Master.”

Anakin is still trying to register his words when the man—Luke—takes a few more steps forward and looks at Anakin. His expression looks weird, and he himself turns a little bit pale. After a few seconds they both hear Obi-Wan running to where they stand.

“Anakin!” His Master is panting. As he sees Luke, he asks “And who is that?”

***

When Luke wakes up it’s dark. Everywhere. He thinks he must be dead, but he doesn’t feel dead. Instead, he feels the ground shaking beneath him, so he manages to lie still. After the ground starts feeling normal beneath him Luke becomes more aware of where he is. He sees dust and debris everywhere, fallen buildings lying shattered on the ground. Luke also feels someone in the Force, almost too close to him. He manages to stand up and when he feels like nothing in his body is injured he tries taking a few steps to the other person’s direction.

When he hears a familiar voice calling him he thinks he has a concussion, but still goes closer. He can’t see the man’s face, but his presence in the Force is very strong. He introduces himself, but as Luke finally steps closer and sees his face all the colour is sucked out of him. Because how can Anakin Skywalker be not transparently-blue, but colourful and alive?

When he looks at his—what, father?—he sees that the man looks probably just as pale as Luke.

They both turn when there is a third voice calling out, and Luke feels himself tear up when he hears Obi-Wan’s serious tone. Luke doesn’t get to explain anything, because Obi-Wan says that there can be another earthquake and they need to get to the ship as fast as they can. Luke doesn’t argue and follows his old friend, while feeling watched by a careful gaze of Anakin Skywalker.

When Luke feels the ship take off there is a rush of anxiety inside of him. He doesn’t know where he is, what date it is and how he happened to be here. All he knows is that, probably, he happened to transport himself thirty or more years into the past. There are a few minutes for Luke to think about all of that, because later he feels two pairs of eyes watching him carefully. He turns to look at Obi-Wan and Anakin and thinks about how to explain himself without being accused of lying.

“Well?” Anakin says impatiently. “Who are you?”

Luke sighs. “I am Luke Skywalker. I am a Jedi Master.”

“There are no Skywalkers’ in our Order.” Obi-Wan states.

“Not yet.” Luke says and instantly regrets it, because the men’s stares become more intense and questioning.

“Look,” He begins. “You might not believe me. Not right now, at least. But I will tell you the truth, alright?” When no response follows, the man goes on. “I am truly Luke Skywalker, a Jedi Master, the last Jedi, a Sithslayer, and,” He inhales slowly before saying the last words. “the son of the Chosen One.”

Neither of the men look like they believe him.

“I don’t know how I got here. I was in my ship and I suddenly got pulled into hyperspace. I woke up on that planet, and met you. I know you don’t believe me, but you still need to bring me to the Jedi Temple, right? Make them take my DNA and see for yourself.”

The two exchange glances. “How do we now that you’re not dangerous?”

“I am dangerous.” Luke says with a smile. “But I won’t hurt my family. Feel the Force, does it tell you that I am lying?”

No response follows. Luke excuses himself and goes to the other side of the ship, but he can still hear his father and Obi-Wan whispering to each other.

“Master, do you believe him?”

“I can’t say. It doesn’t feel like he’s lying, but the things he says are impossible to happen.”

“Obi-Wan, he said he is the last Jedi. It’s nonsense! There are thousand of Jedi in the galaxy, what, will they simply vanish in the future?”

Obi-Wan sighs and doesn’t say anything else. For the rest of their trip Luke doesn’t hear them talk again.

***

Luke is mesmerised by the Temple. It looks nothing like the one Luke’s found, and he mentally takes notes about how to improve.

They take Luke to the healers and make him wait for thirty minutes after receiving results of his test. Eventually, they take him to the Council. Luke looks at the members of the Council and realises that he only knows Yoda and Obi-Wan.

Everyone is in the middle of a discussion when they emerge: Obi-Wan, Anakin, and eventually, Luke.

“Masters,” Obi-Wan says and everyone’s attention slips to them. “We need to discuss an important problem.”

“This man,” Obi-Wan gestures to Luke. “Claims to be Luke Skywalker, the son of Anakin Skywalker.”

Obviously, he is lying. Can’t you see for yourself?” A dark-skinned man says in an irritated tone.

“Of course, Master Windu, we didn’t believe him right away. Before this meeting, we took him to the Healers Hall took a DNA test.”

And?” The man pushes.

“The results are positive.” And it’s enough to make the whole Jedi Council erupt into a chaos. Luke hears different accusations from every side: either they tell him he’s a Sith that’s going to take over the Republic, or they say he is a “Dooku’s pawn” sent to take their attention away from the war.

He looks at Anakin, his father, who’s standing in the corner of the room, and the man looks like he doesn’t know what to believe.

Annoyed by the situation around him he says loudly “Enough!”, and finally feels silence.

“You all accuse me of being a Sith, a separatist, a pawn of a man whose name I don’t even know. Why? I can answer that myself. Because you don’t want to accept the truth. You say it’s nonsense, it’s not logical or right, and maybe it’s not. But our world is strange, and as you know, the Force works in mysterious ways.

If you are really wise Jedi Masters, listen to me and to the Force, because I am going to tell you this: I am Luke Skywalker, a Jedi Master, the last and the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy. There is a threat waiting for you in the future and we must face it together. I do not know why am I here, but I was sent here for a reason. It is your choice to listen to me and make it right, or to lock me in a cell and face your fate.”

“Kriff, he really sounds like Skywalker.” Someone whispered .

Silence stretched in the room. Suddenly a sound of a wooden stick made Luke wince.

“My last Padawan you claim to be, hm?”

Luke smiled to himself and turned around. “Master Yoda.” He greeted warmly.

His former Master smiled back, before turning to face the Council. “Lying, young Skywalker is not. Listen to him, we must.” The small Master turned back to Luke. “A moment alone the Council members need, Luke. Discuss everything, we must.”

Luke nodded and turned around to leave.

The man waited in the Meditation Chambers. However, he was not meditating. He was waiting for a certain person to come to him.

There was a knock on the door.

“Come in.”

Luke looked up and found his father standing in the doorway. “Did I interrupt your meditation?” He asked.

“No, I wasn’t meditating.” Luke smiled. “I was actually waiting for you.”

Anakin looked surprised, but didn’t say anything else. He walked up to Luke and sat in front of him. “I supposed you have questions?” Luke asked.

“Yeah.” He muttered. Struggling to come up with any question at all, he blurted out “What is your mother’s name?”

Luke genuinely laughed at that. “Padmé Amidala Naberrie.” He saw Anakin’s shoulder drop with ease.

“Why are you not with the Council?”

“I am not part of the Council, actually. Did you not know that?”

Luke ignored his question. “What will they do with me after their discussion?”

“I think they feel how powerful you are,” Anakin admitted. “And they will likely listen to whatever you have to say.”

“And you?” Luke saw his father furrow his eyebrows at the question. “Will you believe whatever I tell you?”

Anakin thought before answering. “Yes. You are my son, even if you look like you could be my father.”

Luke’s eyes widened. “That’s not true! I am only thirty five!”

“Yeah,” Anakin huffed a laugh. “Maybe more like forty five.”

Uh-huh.” Luke pouted.

“You look like her.” Anakin said after a moment of silence.

“My sister looks just like you, actually.”

“You have a sister?!” Anakin exclaimed.

“Yes. Her name is Leia.” Luke admitted. “And I also have a nephew.” He smiled.

The look on his father’s face was priceless. “Kriff, I can’t wait until I tell Padmé all that.”

Luke scoffed. “Wait until I tell you about my second nephew, he is a badass—“

The fic ended as it did because I will continue writing about different situations with a time-travelling Luke. If you like this one, I can write a continuation, just say the word.
