Work Text:

Oliver looks over the top of his book at Josh at the other end of the couch.

His hair, still damp from the shower. The sharp slope of his nose. His cheekbones. His jawline. The curve of his neck.

Oliver knows him, the bits and pieces, even if he can’t put it all together.

“Oh,” Oliver gasps, as he drops his book to his chest before he tips his head back and moans as Josh digs his thumbs to the arch of his foot.

Josh’s eyes dance as his mouth pulls up in a satisfied smirk.

“Good?” He asks and Oliver rolls his eyes and presses his heel further into Josh’s hands.

“Harder.”

Josh snorts but obliges, curling his fingers over Oliver’s toes and stretching them out.

“Oh, god.”

Oliver has been limping and wincing his way through the hospital hallways for the last three days and due to conflicting shifts, tonight is the first night he and Josh have spent together. It wasn’t a surprise when Josh sat down on the couch beside him, or when he pulled his feet into his lap, but what is shocking is how good it feels.

“You are so good with your hands.”

“You knew that already,” Josh says, laughing when Oliver playfully kicks him. “Look, it’s not that I mind doing this, or that I don’t love the sounds you make while I’m doing it, but I have to say, I think it’s time for you to get new shoes.”

“I have new shoes. I got them last week.”

“You got them from Goodwill.”

Oliver nods.

“They were used.”

Oliver nods again. “Gently.”

“Which is fine but you’re a doctor who is on his feet all day, running around after patients or whatever it is you do. Let me buy you some new shoes.”

“I know I’m not a neurosurgeon but I still make good money. I can buy my own things.”

“Then why don’t you?”

Oliver ignores him, not wanting to concede. “You know I used to date a guy that had a thing for feet.”

Josh narrows his eyes. “Don’t change the subject,” he says, then, “what did he do?”

Oliver grins. “He couldn’t get off unless we were both barefoot and he liked to suck my toes.”

Josh keeps his face carefully neutral. “Did you like that?”

“I never reciprocated.”

“But did you like it?”

“It didn’t do anything for me,” Oliver says with a shrug and Josh blows out a breath.

“Thank god. No offence.”

“Like you wouldn’t do it if I asked.”

“If you asked,” Josh says, “and I thought it would make you happy? Sure. At least once. Do you know what would make me happy?” He squeezes Oliver’s foot. “Buying you new shoes.”

Oliver heaves a sigh and grabs his bookmark to save his spot before pulling his feet back.

“No,” Josh says as Oliver starts to crawl toward him, “don’t change the subject.”

Oliver pauses. “Do you want me to go back to my side?”

Josh makes a soft, disapproving sound before he rolls his eyes, grabs a fistful of Oliver’s shirt, and tugs.
