I Just Wanted a Quiet Life

Summary:

Diavolo gets a cat. And a corpse.

Notes:

I wrote this really fast after talking about this situation on tumblr. It's unbeta-ed and I'm sorry for any mistakes.

Ah, they are both speaking english unless stated otherwise.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The moment Kira stepped into his house, he knew something was different. He heard a soft noise, a bit acute, but not loud. It sounded like a “meow”. Kira took a deep breath, left his suitcase by the door, took off his shoes and walked to the living room. He was hoping the sound had come from the TV, but the fact that Killer Queen was out and seemed to be anxious to find the noise’s origin was telling him that no, there was, indeed, a new feline inside his house.

“I’m home,” he said in Japanese, just out of habit, when he stepped into the room.

“Welcome home,” Diavolo’s reply was also in Japanese, but with a strong accent. He was sitting on the floor, leaning back against the couch, and he didn’t turn his head to see Kira. No, he was too busy playing with what seemed to be a very fluffy and white fur ball.

“Are you going to explain yourself or will I have to force an explanation out of you?”

Diavolo finally looked up at him, and stopped petting his new furry friend, that proceeded to leave his lap and start roaming clumsily on the rug. Killer Queen moved away from Kira and got near the small kitten, curiosity shining in his yellow eyes.

“You work all day and I get bored, so I got us a cat. But I had to kill the guy who brought it because he saw me, his corpse is in the basement,” Diavolo explained, calmly, as if he was telling Kira to take an umbrella because it was raining outside.

Kira stared at him in disbelief. In just a split second, the two months he had spent together with Diavolo ran through his mind, and he asked himself why on earth did he accept that flamboyant Italian mob boss inside his house and what the hell did he do wrong to deserve that. He could imagine the answer for the later question.

“Diavolo, I thought I was clear when I told you to not do anything suspicious and that would attract attention to this place. I thought you of all people would be as careful.”

“I killed the guy and no one saw it. It’s okay.”

“There is a corpse in my basement, this is not okay.”

“You have a collection of severed human hands in the fridge. That also happens to be in the basement.”

Kira pressed his temples with his hands. He had a hard day at work and arrived home for this mess. He couldn’t believe his own lack of luck, and was hoping that everything had been just a bad dream. Everything since he accepted Diavolo as his partner.

“That’s entirely different,” he said.

Diavolo stared at him.

“How exactly is that any different? I don’t think having parts of corpses in the basement would be better than having a whole corpse to the eyes of society.”

Kira opened his mouth to reply, but he didn’t. He couldn’t. There was really nothing he could say because Diavolo was right.

This time.

He sighed and turned his back to Diavolo, starting to walk to the kitchen.

“I’m gonna make dinner.”

Diavolo smiled. He had won.

“I want lasagna,” he said.

“I don’t care what you want,” Kira said from the kitchen “just call the damn vet so I can take the cat to be vaccinated tomorrow.”

Diavolo was about to retort, saying he couldn’t let anyone hear his voice, but he didn’t. He had already fucked with Kira too much for one day.

He picked the phone and moved to the bathroom, locking the door, so he could make Doppio do the call for him.

Meanwhile, Killer Queen was happily entertained by the small kitten that kept trying to win a fight against him with his tiny claws and fangs.

Notes:

I may come up with more domestic drabble/oneshots with these two, it's really fun to imagine them living together.
