Work Text:
Trinity surprised a lot of people on the first night that the pitt crew went out together for drinks. She even impressed Whitaker whom she’d been living with for the better part of a month.
“Trin you read- oh wow. You look nice.” Whitaker said, with an offensive look of confusion on his face.
“Gee, thanks.” She shot back sarcastically.
“No I didn’t- I just mean you usually don’t get done up like that.”
“Whitaker, 80% of the time you see me is in scrubs at work, the idea that you know what I usually dress like at all is a bit ridiculous.”
He held up his hands in mock surrender.
“Anyways, has Victoria texted you yet?” Santos asks, leaning into her mirror to get a final coat of mascara in.
“Uhhh…” He pulls his phone out of his pocket. “Yes, she’s game.”
Trinity breaks into a grin. “This is going to be one interesting night.”
Victoria’s eyes widen when she sees Dennis and Trinity waiting at her doorstep.
“Damn girl, I didn’t expect you to go all out.” Victoria semi nervously, attempting to sound uplifting.
Trinity squints. “Are you two serious, what did you expect me to wear? It’s a night out?”
“Honestly, I thought you’d be more casual. I feel underdressed now.” Victoria says, motioning to her skirt and long sleeve shirt combo.
“Yeah, I don’t think anyone else is gonna be fully in a cocktail dress.” Dennis confesses. “Well, I dress to impress.” Trinity shrugs and pats at her updo.
“Did you bring the stuff?” Victoria lowers her voice and looks around.
Trinity laughs. “You are making it sound so much worse right now, but yeah, I brought your fake crash. Welcome to the adult table.” She pulls the ID out of her purse and hands it over.
Victoria looks it over carefully and nods approvingly.
“Ready?” Whitaker asks expectantly.
“Yeah, yeah I’m ready.” Victoria says.
They meet Mohan at the bar.
“Hey Slowmo, over here!” Santos calls across the noisy bar.
“Oh hey! You all made it!” Samira smiles.
“Wasn’t Ellis coming too?” Whitaker asks.
“Yeah! She’ll be here in a bit, she said she had to put her stepdaughter to bed.”
Victoria looks shocked by this information. “She has a stepkid?”
“Kind of, her ex's kid. Thankfully.” Samira clarifies.
“Oh I see.” Trinity smirks and takes a sip of her gin and tonic.
“Oh don’t even try to act like you aren’t trying to get laid tonight too, hypocrite.” Samira looks at her outfit and rolls her eyes.
“Is it really so shocking to everyone that I dress up like this?” Santos furrows her eyebrows.
“Yes,” the three of them say nearly simultaneously.
“Really? Am I not a textbook mean femme?”
“You just have a… tough personality.” Samira tries.
“Are you calling me difficult to work with? I’m telling Robby.” Their conversation is cut short by Whitaker waving foolishly across the room. Trinity whips her head around to see the action.
It’s Mel. Jesus it’s Mel. A loose button up hanging off her in all the right places, only about halfway buttoned. Her pants looked almost tailored to fit her perfectly.
Safe to say Mel looked like a femme’s wet dream. And it threw Santos way off.
Mel breaks out into a dorky smile when she spots Whitaker and waves back.
Trinity can’t stop herself from watching as Mel walks over to them. The confidence in her strut that Trinity had previously attributed to the urgent nature of the ER was making her question everything she thought she knew about Mel.
“Doctor King.” She says, unsure of how to finish. And she could swear for a second that Mel checked her out.
It was just a quick look down and up, followed by a nod of acknowledgment and a smile. “Doctor Santos.” Mel echos back.
“You were just missing our riveting conversation about how everyone’s shocked I look nice tonight.” Trinity tries.
“Really?” Mel asks, genuinely surprised.
“Don’t tell me you’re surprised too.”
Mel laughs and tilts her head down. “Oh no, I’ve met plenty of girls like you.”
Suddenly Trinity can’t close her mouth.
“Woah, that's like your third shot in 5 minutes.” Dennis calls out to Samira.
“Liquid courage.” She shrugs.
“Hell yeah, a rum for me too please.” Trinity says to the bartender.
“Make that two!” Mel says, finally sliding into the stool next to Victoria.
“I’m not paying for you, King.” Santos warns.
“Course not.” Mel says earnestly. That shuts Trinity up.
Not even 10 minutes later, Victoria drags her over to the dumb pool table. Apparently Mateo had arrived, and her whole plan was to earn a victory kiss instead of just talking to the poor guy.
So now she was stuck playing pool in the corner while the rest of the party hung out around the bar.
She tried to notice everything happening in her peripheral vision. Parker had arrived sometime during the last round of pool and had sat awfully close to Samira at the bar. Mel was just talking to Whitaker and Mateo, like she had been the whole time.
After another round of beating Javadi’s ass, Trinity looks up once more and sees a woman talking to Mel at the bar. Mateo and Whitaker both look as if they’re interrupting something as Mel leans in closer to hear what the woman has to say. Mateo catches Trinity looking and him and Whitaker join them at the pool table.
“What brings you guys over here?” Trinity asks as Mateo grabs a pool stick.
“Thought we’d give Mel a little privacy.” Mateo laughs.
Trinity looks over again to see Mel and the woman laughing at the bar, faces awfully close together.
“Jesus, they met like 5 seconds ago.” Trinity snarks.
“You should’ve heard her…” Whitaker smiles.
“Hey Huckleberry, mind taking my place? I need another drink.” He nods and she tosses him her stick before walking back to the bar.
She quickly orders another gin and tonic before turning her attention to Mel and the woman.
“No I'm serious, it was a super serious procedure, I’m honestly surprised they let me do it.” Mel says to the woman while toying with her straw.
“Wow, you’re like incredible.” The woman says and Trinity swears that she sees Mel smirk.
A couple of girls approach the woman and all but pull her away. “Hey Willow, we gotta go, Ava puked all over herself.” The woman looks disappointed, but gets up. “It was good to meet you, Mel.” The woman smiles before leaving with her friends.
“You were flirting with her right?” Santos asks straight up.
Mel is unfazed by the question. “Yup, it’s too bad.”
“Can I ask you a personal question, Doctor King?”
“Sure.”
“Do you do this a lot?”
Mel thinks about the question. “I suppose I do, I don’t really mean to though.”
“Oh right, you just happen to charm every femme in a five mile radius every time you go out, accidentally.”
Mel smirks at her and her mouth runs dry. “You charmed, Doctor Santos?”
“Are you serious?”
Mel just nods.
“Shit, Doctor King. I guess I am.”
