Dangerous Blues

Summary:

You and Ajax shared a living room and kitchen that occupied the area between your own private spaces. Often you shared meals and evenings together, whether you wanted to or not.

Hopefully you can explain to him how you feel without pushing him away first. <3

Chapter Text

It was a long morning of reports and paperwork following the previous day's battle.

As soon as you and Ajax finished up at headquarters you split; retreating to your personal rooms. You and Ajax shared a living room and kitchen that occupied the area between your own private spaces. Often you shared meals and evenings together, whether you wanted to or not. That was probably the intention of the space anyway, even this base; which wasn’t the main headquarters, had plenty of rooms, but those partnering up for missions were encouraged to know each other outside of victory.

As soon as you finished your daily tasks and showered, you threw on a pajama shirt. ankle socks, and some shorts. You slipped under your puffy comforter and blanket, and clutched the stuffed animal closest to you. Usually when taking naps you would set an alarm; as to not miss any scheduled tasks, but today that held little relevance. Your muscles melted over your mattress as you sunk into smooth ripples of sleep.

The music coming from your phone seemed to dance in your head as you woke up; not waking because of the music, but from the muffled knock at your door. You reluctantly let your feet meet the floor, tugging a blanket up from your bed and wrapping it around yourself tightly.

You fiddle the doorknob open with your blanketed hand, before it finally reveals a shirtless Ajax. The kitchen light cast a milky glow on his sharp shoulders. He seemed to open his mouth to speak but you interrupted him.

“What the hell are you doing standing here without a shirt on?” You say sharply, regretting the cruel sound clinging to your voice. Luckily, he didn’t seem to take it personally.

“Well, turns out I left my suitcase in the lobby and I don’t have any clean shirts, so, I was wondering.. Could I borrow one of yours? I think it may be just a little unprofessional to waltz around out there shirtless.” He smiled, with a chuckle. You sigh with a smile, nod, and open the door wider; welcoming him in, before retreating to your closet to find something half suitable.

“Wow Y/N, what a room you’ve got.” He says, innocently looking around. Your room was colorfully decorated with just about everything you liked. Posters, figures, books, stuffed animals, and a few of your original artworks you’d liked enough to display.

“I’m a huge nerd, I know” You reply, still combing through your closet.

“No, I meant the drawings” He pauses. “But yeah, you also are a huge nerd.”

You turn around to (lightly) glare at him, and at his smirk of satisfaction.

“Well I guess the shirts I picked out for you will be perfect then.” You smile, offering him a shirt with “I <3 Nerds” plastered on it, and the other with a Naruto graphic.

“These are the biggest shirts I have so hopefully they’ll fit.”

Surprisingly; Tartaglia was not very defiant, he simply took the first shirt and swiftly put it on. He was one of those people that put his arms through the sleeves before putting his head through the collar.

“Where do you get shirts like this anyway?” He asked, snapping you out of your groggy-from-sleep trance.

“Hot Topic clearance rack” You replied casually.

“Not surprising” He says, pulling the hem down over his waist.

You roll your eyes.

“Well now that you’ve been appropriately clothed I think it’s time you're on your way.” You yawn.

“Trying to get rid of me I see..” He says with theatrical sorrow.

“Well I’m really just trying to get back to my day-off nap.”

He looks at you now with more focus.

“I didn’t realize I woke you, I’m sorry.”

It was kind of funny to see Ajax with such a sincere look on his face, he looked as though he genuinely felt bad.

“It’s all good, I get plenty of naps. Just wake me up around dinner time, okay?”

He laughs in response.

“Sure, I’ll wake you up around dinner time.”

And just like that Ajax left, gently shutting the door behind him, and leaving an err of calm that eased you back into sleep.
