PINK WEDNESDAY REVIEW
by Tyler Adams

In this day and age, it's rare to hear of a new Western girl group. Many think the era of the Western girl group (or boy band, for that matter) has come and gone, but The Plastics are looking to change that.
Despite Pink Wednesday being the group's sophomore album, for many listeners, it's the first time they're hearing the sounds of The Plastics. After a lukewarm response to their debut album, The Plastics are back to prove themselves to the world. After this album's release, well, they've got a lot to prove.
For those unfamiliar with The Plastics, the girl group is made up of three distinct members: Regina George, Gretchen Wieners, and Karen Shetty.
Regina George is the powerhouse, universally acclaimed for her angelic voice and belting ability. Many of her fans were shocked when she announced that she was joining a group instead of embarking on a solo career, a move that many still find perplexing. George's talent is unmatched, in and outside of The Plastics, and her voice really shines through on Pink Wednesday.
Gretchen Wieners's story is one many are familiar with. Appearing on America's Got Talent's Season 16, Wieners made waves with a beautiful acoustic cover of One Last Time by Ariana Grande. She made it to the second round, where she was infamously beat out by a singing dog harmonizing with its owner. What spelled doom for Wieners intitally led to her getting picked up by North Shore Records for The Plastics. Since joining, Wieners has found herself as the relatable, girl-next-door. That image hasn't come without controversy, however, as some claim her father's invention of the Toaster Studel makes her a nepo baby. Others question the legitimacy of this claim, and what real connections could be built in the music industry from a one-snack-wonder.
The final member of the group is Karen Shetty, the jane-of-all-trades of the trio. Shetty's extensive history as a dancer has helped her in developing choreography for the group, for which she acts as lead choreographer. She's also no stranger to the modeling world, where she got her professional start as a teenager. Many are divided on Shetty's positive attitude, some calling her a "ray of sunshine," while others find her optimism overwhelming or phony.
The Plastics struggled to truly find a cohesive sound in their self-titled debut album, with some describing the group as a "diva scrimmage" instead of a cohesive unit. Attitudes are split among fans and critics in regards to Pink Wednesday, with some claiming that they're finding their groove, while others feel the battle for dominance is still ongoing.

MEET THE PLASTICS
THE POP GIRL GROUP CHANGING THE FACE OF POP
MEET THE PLASTICS, THE POP GIRL GROUP CHANGING THE FACE OF POP
The industry has seen many pop girl groups come and go over the years, fromSpice Girls to Little Mix, but the latest group to take the stage is none other than The Plastics, a trio of popstars ready to make their mark on the music industry.
We sat down with a conversation with The Plastics following the release of their sophomore album, Pink Wednesday, which has already climbed to number 26 on the Billboard Top 100. A jump from their self-titlted debut album, which reached a peak of 83.
So, first off, congratulations on the album!
R: Thank you.
G: Thanks!
K: Heart you!
Tell us, how was working on this album compared to your debut?
R: We had a lot more creative freedom with this album than the first one.
G: Yes, we worked on the songs together much more collaboratively than last time.
K: We also had more fun with it!
If you had to describe the vibe of the album in just a few words, what would you say?
R: Boisterous party pop.
G: I would say it's more of a chill pop vibe.
K: Bubblegum pop! And not just because it's pink!
R: That's one of the great things about this album. There's many different interpretations that people have, and that's fantastic. Everyone gets their own, unique experience with our music.
What would you say your favorite song off the album is?
R: Without a doubt, Pretty Poison.
K: I love Sexy! It was very fun to create and has some of my favorite choreography, for both the music video and the live performances we've got lined up!
G: For me, I'd say Secrets. It's got a great vibe to it.
Speaking of Sexy, there was some controversy over the inclusion of that song on the album.
R: Yes, well, unfortunately, some people just have their heads stuck up their—
G: It was an uphill battle to get it on the album, but it was well worth it. We try not to spend too much time listening to online discourse. That's never any good for anyone's mental health.
K: A lot of people hear the title and assume it's actually about sex. It's not. It's about the confidence of loving yourself and loving your body. It's why I had so much fun with it!
Confidence seems to be a key theme for this album. What other themes can listeners expect from Pink Wednesday?
R: Power. Raw, full power.
G: I would say the album is more about finding yourself and feeling comfortable in your own skin.
R: That's literally just confidence with extra words [laughs]
K: I think this album is just really fun!
A lot of early reviewers are citing Regina's vocals as a strong point for the album, and I have to agree. You have the voice of an angel.
R: Thank you.
Would you say this album taps into more of those strong vocals?
R: Yes, I would.
G: Same goes for us. We tapped into our strengths a lot too. Even though it's a pop album, we tried to highlight as much of our vocal abilities as possible.
R: Pop can have good vocals. Not everything is about an acoustic guitar and slow melodies.
Regina, how would you rate the vocal difficulty of this album?
G: I'd say its—
R: Oh, do you want to answer for me? [Laughs] Anyways, it varies a little from song to song. Several I'd put at a personal three or four on the difficulty scale for me, but there's a couple of tracks that are definitely closer to a seven or eight.
Very impressive. There's still room to grow from there.
R: Oh, absolutely, and we intend to on future albums.
You can listen to Pink Wednesday for yourself on Spotify or Apple Music, or purchase the album off of The Plastics' merch website, or at most music retailers.

Lyrics

I used to think I would spend every second I have
Right where my story began
I'd be happy here
Every day, month, year of my life
But now I'm wishing for whatever comes after goodbye
On every star in the sky
I'm dreaming of what I could become
This is where home will be
As long as my lungs can breathe
But my heart is dying to leave
'Cause I know there's more to me
I don't wanna live with "what ifs",
"might haves"
"Could havе been if I had, only tried
not held back"
Oh no, that's not a part of my plan
That's not the mе that I
That's not the me that I am/p>
This time there's no looking back
I'm crossing things off my list
Don't wanna run out of time before I wake up and find
There was a life that I missed
My limit doesn't exist
I don't wanna live with "what ifs",
"might haves"
"Could have been if I had, only tried
not held back"
Oh no, that's not a part of my plan
That's not the me that I am
No "What ifs", regrets
Where my strengths and weakness
I would hide my feelings
Oh no, that's not a part of my plan
That's not the me that I am
