Chapter 1: Hell

Chapter Text

(Little Whinging)

It was an average summer day in Little Whinging, and nothing seemed out of place. A group of five boys found themselves relaxing and enjoying themselves at the park, “Hey Dud. I’m surprised your weirdo cousin hasn’t been out much this summer.” A blonde-haired blue-eyed boy scoffed.

“Shove it Piers. The less we see of that freak the better.” Dudley Dursley scoffed. Dudley Dursley was 16 years old with brown hair, but he was on the large side and also out of shape.

“True” Piers said dismissively. None of them liked Dudley’s cousin Harry and they bullied him constantly over the years. As they continued to relax, out of absolutely nowhere it got colder.

“Looks like it’s getting cold. Time to head home Dud.” A boy with black hair and gray eyes named Trevor said calmly. He was the third member of their little group of four.

“Yeah.” Dudley replied and they began to leave not wanting to deal with the cold much longer. As the boys started to disperse Peirs noticed something out of the corner out of his eye and when he looked towards it his eyes widened in shock.

“What the fuck is that.” Piers shouted in horror as a two black robed monsters appeared out of nowhere from the sky and flew towards them.

“What the bloody hell is that.” a fourth boy shouted in terror. He was a red head with green eyes.

“Who cares Luke. RUN!” Piers screamed and all at once the boys started to run separating themselves so the creatures couldn’t get them. Unfortunately for the boys, none of them were in great shape so the two monsters easily caught up with them.

“DUDLEY HELPPP” Trevor screamed but it was too late. Dudley looked back towards his friend and watched in horror as the strange creature grabbed Trevor and lifted him into the air before opening its mouth as a black mist poured out and went straight for his helpless friend..

“Trevor! NOOOOO!!” Dudley screamed in horror, but it was too late, and Dudley watched with horror as the creature drained Trevor’s soul from his body.

“DUDLEY!” Piers shouted as the second monster captured him and just as with Trevor, Pier’s body was completely drained.

“Piers. Trevor” Dudley shouted in horror, but the nightmare wasn’t over.

“DUDLEY! It got me.” Luke shouted and Dudley’s third friend was quickly captured and drained of his soul.

“Damn it freak. We should’ve never taken you in.” Dudley swore as one of the creatures charged towards him. Despite his best efforts the creatures were too fast and soon Dudley suffered the same fate as his friends.

After draining Dudley of his lifeforce the two creatures turned towards each other, “What a feast brother.”

“Yes brother. That foolish woman sent us without any of those awful wizards to stop us.”

“Yes. There are no wizards in the area.”

“Then we shall feast”

The two skeletal monsters turned towards the town of little Whinging and flew knowing that there was nothing to stop them from feasting on the innocent town and that’s exactly what they intended to do.

The small town of Little Whinging had approximately 23,897 people but over 4 horrifying hours the monsters claimed 11,077 of them before they flew away satisfied with a job well done.

Albus Dumbledore made his way into the Chambers for an emergency meeting for the Wizengamot at nearly 8 PM. The fact that it was being called this late, and that she insisted everyone arrived the moment this message appeared was not good, “Albus glad you could make it.” Amelia said with a very troubled look on her face.

Albus didn’t like this, “What’s happened Amelia.”

“I’ll explain once the rest of the Wizengamot arrives soon.” Amelia said firmly.

Albus didn’t like this at all, but he decided to stay patient and wait for the rest of the governing body to arrive and five minutes later he got his wish.

“Seeing as how everyone is here, I’m going to turn this over to Amelia Bones.” Dumbledore said before banging the gavel.

“I’m afraid that I come bearing horrible news. About 2 hours ago a retired auror who lives in Crawley sent me a message revealing that for some insane reason a pair of dementors made their way to Little Whinging a small town in Surrey and went on a rampage using the Dementors Kiss on over 11,000 muggles this afternoon before flying away.”

Dumbledore went sheet white, but he didn’t want to say anything until others did, “Dementors Amelia. Your auror must be insane.” Lucius scoffed.

Amelia looked at Lucius with a sigh, “At first I had the same thought Lucius. The Dementors are under STRICT regulations with the Ministry and the idea that they attacked a muggle town was shocking. Still, I went over to him and brought a Pensieve since he clearly witnessed something and got the memory.

I watched myself as dementors attacked a news reporter for the Muggles and I made sure to take the memory and have the Department of Mysteries look it over. They’ve confirmed that the memory wasn’t altered and I can show it to you. My Pensieve with the memory is with me” Amelia said glad that she brought it with her.

“Do it Amelia.” Dumbledore ordered.

The chamber watched as Amelia prepared the Pensieve and Dumbledore cast the spell so they could see what the Auror saw. “So everyone knows the Auror is watching a muggle device called a television that they use for news. Please no questions.” Amelia said as the memory played.

“We interrupt this news program to bring you breaking news. A mysterious disease has already claimed 500 people in Little Whinging with no indication of… WHAT IS THAT.” a middle-aged woman screamed. The memory showed the muggle device moving to point to what the Wizengamot immediately recognized as a Dementor rushed in and grabbed the woman and lifted her into the air. She screamed in terror as the woman was kissed before the memory faded.”

The Wizengamot was silent, “There you have it. Dementors in Little Whinging and I would later learn that over 11,000 muggles were killed by the beasts before they fled.”

Dumbledore was furious, ‘Mundungus you fool. How could you leave your post? If Harry Potter is one of the victims you’ll pay dearly for this.’ Dumbledore seethed internally.

Lucius looked horrified, “Have you been able to track these dementors.” Lucius asked.

“Unfortunately no but as we speak my aurors are going through every ounce of paperwork that’s been sent in the last hour. Somebody sent those monsters to Little Whinging and whoever that was is in a world of trouble. There’s no way to recover from this breach of the statue and I can only pray that.” Amelia stopped as a lynx faunus appeared.

“I’ve received a report from a retired wizard in Merton. He spotted a pair of Dementors flying near his home and due to being in the countryside he was able to kill them without risking the Statue. The dementors are neutralized.”

Amela smiled, “Well that at least takes care of that problem.” Amelia said with a grin.

“Agreed but we still must figure out who is responsible. This breach of the statue of Secrecy is unprecedented.” Lucius said when a corporeal patronus appeared in the room, “Amelia this is Rufus Scrimgeour. One of the aurors just found a piece of paperwork signed by Dolores Umbridge. She apparently ordered two Dementors to go into Little Whinging. Their target was a young boy with black hair glasses and a lightning bolt shaped scar. Sound familiar.” The patronus says before fading.

The Wizengamot as a whole was stunned silent because that description could only be one person and Dumbledore’s expression went pale, “Aurors!!!! Go and find Ms. Umbridge and have her brought to a holding cell immediately. If she resists you have permission to use whatever force necessary.” Amelia said firmly to the two cadets that were there.

“What if Fudge interferes.” one asked.

“Tell him that his Undersecretary just tried to murder the Boy Who Lived and in her attempt broke the Statue of Secrecy. If he does anything, arrest him too.” Amelia roared angrily.

“Yes Ma’am.” The aurors said before leaving.

Amelia’s focus turned towards Dumbledore, “Albus.”

“Yes Amelia.” Dumbledore said calmly trying to hide his rage.

“I need you to go to Surrey England now and find out if Harry Potter is still alive. If he is we need him in protective custody immediately.” Ameila ordered

“I completely agree.” Dumbledore answered. He would be having a long talk with Mundungus Fletcher after this. A very long talk.

Grimmauld place was lively as ever as the Weasley family and Hermione Granger joined Sirius for breakfast. Sirius agreed to use his family’s ancestral home as the meeting place for the Order and reluctantly allowed Molly and her family to move in for safety reasons along with Hermione. He didn’t quite care for Molly’s attitude, but it was a small price to pay to eventually see his godson.

The Daily Prophet arrived, and Arthur Weasley decided to take a brief look before heading off to work just to drop his tea in shock.

“Arthur is everything okay.” Molly gasped running into the room.

“No it’s not Molly. Apparently Dolores Umbridge released a pair of Dementors into Little Whinging England yesterday in the hopes of targeting Harry Potter. While it’s unclear if her attempt failed or succeeded the dementors killed over 11,000 muggles and would’ve killed more if not for a retired wizard in Merton.” Arthur explained.

The rowdy table went silent, and everyone was thinking the same thing, “WHERE IS MY GODSON.” Sirius shouted.

“Sirius calm down.” Molly pleaded.

Sirius looked towards Molly with a look of pure fury, “If this was one of your kids we both know you’d be on a rampage so shut it Molly. My godson was apparently targeted by this Bloody Ministry to the point they sent Dementors after him. Now I have no idea if he’s alive or dead.” Sirius scolded.

“Fair” Molly conceded.

“How can somebody send those monstrous creatures into a muggle town.” Hermione said in disbelief having dealt with them during their third year.

“I don’t know dear, but I do know this. It isn’t safe for anybody to go out right now because people will want answers. The statue has been breached and now everything we’ve worked for is ruined.” Arthur sighed.

“Hopefully Albus will tell us something soon.” Molly said hopefully.

Right on cue Dumbledore arrived in the room and he looked exhausted, “Everyone I’m sure you’ve read the morning headline.” Dumbledore said lethargically.

“Yes. Now where is my godson.” Sirius insisted.

“I do not know.” Albus said sheepishly.

“You don’t know! Albus you told me that you’d watch over him until it was time to take him to Grimmauld. By the way how the hell did Dementors do that much damage when I know you left some people from the Order to guard Harry.”

Dumbledore’s expression went ice cold, “Mundungus left his post and by the time he returned the creatures had already left. Not to worry I’ve dealt with him.” Dumbledore said coldly. When he couldn’t find Harry, he immediately found the thief and killed him before burning the body. Truthfully it was a small mercy compared to what Sirius would do.

“Forget Dung. Where is HARRY!” Sirius roared.

“I went to his Aunt and Uncles home, but the Dursleys were dead and harry was nowhere to be found.”

“This doesn’t make sense. If the Dementors went after his Aunt and Uncle, how come Harry didn’t use the Patronus Charm to stop them.” Hermione asked.

“That’s a very good … oh dear. That’s why they did it” Dumbledore said trying to hold back his rage.

“What is it Professor.” Ron asked curiously.

“Dolores planned to use the Dementors to get Harry to do underaged magic. They would then use that as an excuse to expel him from Hogwarts and snap his wand.” Dumbledore spoke up.

“Hold on.”

“Since he competed in that tournament isn’t Harry considered a legal adult now.” The twins asked.

Dumbledore mused, “I do not know.  That… is a rather complicated question.” Dumbledore admitted.

“Is there any way to find out.” Sirius asked voice laced with concern. Harry was missing and nobody knew where he was.

“I can possibly go to Gringotts but that’s it.” Dumbledore answered.

“So we have no idea where Harry is and if he’s okay.” Sirius scowled.

“Indeed. I will try and find out more, but this is quite the mess. Thanks to Dolores’s actions the Statue of Secrecy is gone and while Dolores will surely be sent through the veil for her actions, we must deal with the consequences. 11,000 people are dead thanks to her and there’s no explanation we can come up with since they have recorded footage of the dementors. I will have to speak to the Muggle Queen and the Monarchy soon.” Dumbledore said clearly upset.

Molly blinked, “Wait. I thought Muggles didn’t know about magic hence why we have the Statue.”

“The average muggles refer to magic as tricks, and sleight of hand that can be used to fool people, but the higher ups in the Monarchy are aware of true magic. We rarely, if ever, speak since it’s only in cases of national emergencies. I myself haven’t spoken to the current Monarch since her coronation 40 years ago but I will be forced to in short order to explain this away” Dumbledore sighed.

“What about my godson.” Sirius complained.

Dumbledore frowned, “As I said Sirius I do not know. Harry is missing and I will do everything I can to figure out where he is and if he is alright.” Dumbledore sighed.

Everyone was silent because they understood how horrible this was. The Boy Who Lived was missing, and nobody knew where he was or if he was okay and with this breach of the Statue of Secrecy, there was no telling when they’d be able to calm things down enough to find him. It truly was hell for everyone and there was no solution in sight.
