Chapter 1: Pilot
Chapter Text
How did the world begin?
Well, that's for you to decide. Some say there were 6 days of creation, some say the heavens and the earth joined together, some say we were born from a cosmic egg.
But, what did the Greeks say?
Simple.
The world came from Chaos. A vast and empty, but sentient void. From Chaos, Darkness and Night was born.
From Darkness and Night, Light and Day was born.
From Light and Day, Earth and Love was born.
And from the Earth, the Sky was born.
From the Earth and Sky, came two powerful Titans, Cronus and Rhea.
And from Cronus and Rhea, came six powerful Gods.
Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia.
But what came from Cronus and his children? War.
A ten year Titanomachy, a fight for the universe.
It was a long battle, but with the help of the Cyclopes, the Hecatrochires, and their youngest brother Zeus, the Olympians rebelled against their father, sealing him and the Titans in the deepest pits of Tartarus, seizing his revolution.
The Olympians had won, they recovered the world, the cosmos was their birthright.
As time moved, so did the world. New Gods and Goddesses came into being, the story of the Olympians has been told by the Ancient Greeks for many years to come, and the Greek Gods were the most loved and worshiped Pantheon ever to be discovered!
Or....at least, they used to be.
Nowadays, it gets less and less busy up in The Heavens, and in The Underworld.
Many Gods were rarely called upon, some barely even had any work to do! Ever since Christianity was spread during the end of the Hellenistic period, things haven't been running too smoothly for the deities of Olympus. It had been days, no, weeks. Months? Years? Oh, what the heck, it's been CENTURIES since these Gods have been relevant, at least in the religious sense. The humans made a pretty good bank from them in the media, but usually the Gods are portrayed inaccurately, so why praise them fully?
But lately, the count for Modern Day Hellenics have been really low, and by low, we're talking 100,000 out of 8.2 billion, who still worship the Gods.
But time has been wasted enough, it was time for a plan.
Zeus called upon his divine siblings and children, the courtroom filled with the Twelve Olympians. It was silent for a moment, but the meeting finally began.
Zeus: Now, you're all probably wondering why I've gathered you here, and on such short notice.
Poseidon: Ugh, can you even say that anymore? We barely get any work in anyways, we're all just sitting on our asses for the most part, except for Hades, cause he had to deal with dead people all day!
Hades: Hey, death is a natural part of life, okay? It's not like I can tell people to stop dying, or give them immortality, then what would be the point of my existence?
Hera: Boys, please stop fighting, we have a real crisis on our hands here!
Poseidon: Oh, of course the lady who constantly bickers with her husband wants us to stop fighting! When have you ever shut up when you and Zeus were at each other's throats?!
Hera: That's different! If he didn't act like a cheating prick, maybe I wouldn't have to be yelling as much!!
Zeus: Alright, that's enough!!
Zeus slammed his fists on the desk, making the whole council shake as thunder roared lowly above. Zeus sighed with annoyance, but tried to settle before he blew everyone here into next Friday.
Zeus: Look, my point is nobody ever worships us anymore! Sure, we still have loyal worshippers in Greece nowadays, but I mean, around the world! No one ever cares to listen to our stories, remember our names, and do you see the filth they call merchandise that they make of us for films?!
Apollo: Father, you're just saying that because people either draw you as an old bastard or a father who's actually decent.
Hades: Easy for you to say when you're always drawn so beautifully, Apollo. I wish someone could draw me that gracefully, they always have to pin me as the bad guy just because I rule the dead, I'm not bad, it's just my job!
Hephasteus: At least you guys get shown in the media. I can't remember the last time someone drew me.
Hera: Son, that's cause you're fucking hideous. Those poor artists would go blind from drawing such a rancid clot of cells!
Tiresias: Did someone say blind-
Everyone: Not now, Prophet boy!
Tiresias disappears in thin air, leaving the Olympians back to their conversation
...
Zeus: So, any ideas on how we can get prayers running up again?
Dionysus: How about, we make it rain wine and throw a huge party to celebrate us, that way everyone can have fun, and have a night to remember us!
Zeus: Son, if we did that, we would be doing more harm than good. Drunk driving is not allowed anymore, and we don't want to stress Hades with a bucket load of dead souls.
Ares: How about we-
Hestia: Ares, if we waged war, the humans would fear us more than look up to us.
Athena: Well, what if we test humanity? We've done it many times before, and a lot of mortal beings have stayed true to us and their beliefs.
Aphrodite: That's not a bad idea, but then again, the humans have changed. Now it's all about robots and technology, it's weird.
Zeus: Yes, Athena, as much as I love your plan, I'm afraid the humans have changed too much. I mean, would they even bother to listen, or even catch the signs?
Suddenly, Hermes shot up from his seat, seeming to have an idea of his own
Hermes: Wait, wait, hear me out, everyone! Picture this, we can apply Athena's idea and disguise ourselves as teenagers in a High School!
There was a long pause, before the whole room burst into laughter, even Hermes laughed at his own proposal, as if it was some kind of fantasy dream.
Poseidon: Man, usually you're annoying, but by the gods, that was a good one, Hermes!
Hermes: I know, right?! I can be just hilarious!
But, in all seriousness, I think we should go for it. I mean, teenagers will believe just about anything they're told, so it just might work.
Apollo: Well, yeah, but let's face it, teens are also stubborn.
Zeus: And hormonal.
Aphrodite: And so petty with drama, but some of the girls are pretty.
Hestia: Not to mention rude, whatever happened to respecting your elders? Now, I can't even tell who's the elder in the room! Is it the students being rebellious? Or the teachers who try to be too friendly?
Demeter: And don't get me started on their retarded language! I mean, skibidi? Gyatt? Rizz? What does that even mean?!
Hades: Look, Hermes, bottom line is, teenagers wouldn't really care about us. Even if they did, would they care enough to worship us, make time for us, to truly believe we're here?
Hermes: No, I guess not.
Zeus: Let's not get too worked up about it. We still have 100,000 loyal members here, so let's guide them while we can. But we must keep searching for options. It's only a matter of time before...we're just stories.
The Deities all nodded, before leaving the room one by one, still having a spark of hope that one day, they can find the change they were yearning for.
Chapter Text
It was another busy week at Stardom Road High School. Many kids were heading the class, many skipping, friend groups piling together again. But when the trio of popular kids step in, you know what’s going down.
Caleb, Elijah, and Nico ran the school, but not like those “know it all popular girls” you see in chick flick movies for teens, no, these kids were different. They were the talk of the school, but for many of their big accomplishments in the community.
Nico was the creative, full of life Freshman of the group, always ready for any upcoming assignment and planning after school activities that’ll make the crowds go wild.
Elijah was always the best tech whiz and tutor among all Juniors, she always kept atop of her classes and helped other students reach their full potential.
And then, there was Caleb, the angel of the school, the Sophomore Saint when it came to making the community better.
He was a joy to the teachers, and he was every girl’s dream, he was the proof that you didn’t have to be jacked up or a jerk to be popular and loved.
It was the start of another great week, the trio gathered underneath the stairs before class, talking to each other about their weekends.
Nico: And then, we got to paint the entire entrance hall, and the committee loved it!
Elijah: That’s great, buddy! My study group and I worked on World History, and they’ve improved a lot since we first started. I really hope they pass their tests.
Nico: Well, you’re a great tutor, Eli. And I know with a bit of luck, they’ll do great.
Caleb: Luck, and the power of God by their side.
Nico and Elijah rolled their eyes playfully, knowing that was exactly what Caleb would say
Elijah: Come on, Caleb! I know, you and your family are devout Christians, but you don’t have to quote bible verses EVERY time we bring up luck or the future.
Nico: Yeah man, we love seeing you happy to share your beliefs with us, but ease up on it, alright?
Caleb: Hey, I can’t really help it! I love to share my bible verse with you guys, and I enjoy spreading a little love, and God's words, through the halls of our school.
Elijah: And that’s another reason why we love you, Caleb. Never afraid to express yourself and your beliefs.
Nico: In fact, why don’t you give us another one of your bible verses right now? I think we’d all like to hear it right now.
Caleb: Oh, of course! Here, let me look through here real quick.
Caleb flew through the pages of his bible, before stopping at one page and reciting a bible verse
Caleb: “Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through him who gives….me….”
Caleb stopped in the middle of his words, his speech slowing as his eyes wandered. Time felt slow as his gaze met the one of a young girl. A sophomore beyond comparison of any other student in the halls. Caleb clenched his shirt, waving to his friends to balance him.
Cabel: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Guys, I might’ve died right now, cause I just ... I just saw the most beautiful angel pass by.
Elijah: I haven’t seen her around, maybe she’s a new student here?
Nico: Whatever the case, you should go talk to her, maybe ask her out sometime.
Caleb: I don’t know, guys. I mean, I’m not insecure or anything, I know my worth. But, is putting myself out there really worth it if she doesn’t like me back?
Elijah: Well, it’s better than standing around until she finds a boyfriend on her own! Come on, we’ll help you try and talk to her, maybe she’ll have a class with one of us.
Nico: Preferably Advisory or our B Lunch, that’s when we’re all together, and we can cheer you on!
Before Caleb could get another word in, Elijah and Nico dragged him through the hallways, eager to help their friend land the girl of his dreams.
And lucky for all three of them, she did share an Advisory class, she sat right in the middle of the room, right in Caleb’s sight. Man, wasn’t she a sight to behold? Caleb admired her like she was the most precious treasure, a being that God took special time to make. From her bold brown hair to every white blotch floating across her olive skin, every part of her was perfect, it was beautiful. Caleb was snapped out of his thoughts when Elijah tapped his shoulder, holding a paper in her hands.
Elijah: Alright, we’ve been through the script many times during breakfast, you sure you know what to say?
Caleb: Yes, I know, Eli. Plus, do you know how embarrassing it is to read a script of what to say to a woman just cause you’re shy? It would scare her away, or make her feel bad.
Elijah: True, true. Look, all I’m gonna say is just follow your heart, man.
Nico: Yeah, if you ever find yourself stumbling, just say what feels right in the moment. You’ll win her over for sure!
Caleb: Alright, thanks for the help guys. I’ll just…wait here, though. Gotta find the right moment, you know?
Nico and Elijah shrugged in agreement, they knew they couldn’t push their best friend to do this right away, all they could do now was support him until the right moment came.
Class felt like hours, but eventually, it seemed a great moment came. The silence of the class working was broken by the loud thud of books falling to the ground. The girl sighed, before kneeling down to pick her books back up, but one managed to slide right underneath Caleb’s seat, out of her sight.
Caleb saw his moment, and took it. He carefully picked up the book, and gained the courage to walk over, kneeling to the girl’s level.
Caleb: Uhh, excuse me? I think you missed this one.
Caleb held the book out for the girl to grab, and by God was so much more beautiful up close.
Her emerald eyes locked onto his gaze for a long time, to the point where Caleb could practically feel the butterflies in her stomach. After a while, the girl reached for her book, smiling.
Gianna: Oh, thanks.
Caleb: No problem. Say, I haven’t…seen you around in the halls. Are you new here?
Gianna: Y-yeah, my dad and I moved here from Sparta. This is my first day in this school, actually, but I got a bit of a chance to explore the town a bit.
Caleb: That’s nice. Hey, this might seem sudden, but if we have the same lunch, my friends and I would love to invite you to sit with us.
Gianna took out her schedule, and just Caleb’s luck, she shared the same lunch period he did.
Gianna: Do you guys have the B Lunch period?
Caleb: Yeah, we- we do.
Gianna: Then I’ll meet you guys there!
Caleb: Great! Oh, uhhh, I’m Caleb, by the way, welcome to the Stardom Road.
Gianna: Thanks. I’m Gianna. I’ll see you at lunch, Caleb.
Gianna grabbed her books and made her way back to her desk, on the way back to his own, Caleb couldn’t stop smiling, and he was excited to see Gianna again later today.
The second the lunch bell rang, Caleb and his friends darted out of their respective classes, making their way to the Lunch Hall to meet up with Gianna. They knew what it was like trying to navigate High School for the first time, so for a foreigner to have to find her way must’ve been challenging. Eventually, they did find her, making their way to sit with her. And once they were all acquainted, they seemed to click like an unfinished puzzle.
Nico: Woah, so you have to drink pig blood once a year? How do you do it, it sounds nasty! No offense, of course.
Gianna: Oh no, you’re fine! I know it sounds naturally unappealing to others, and trust me, it is. But I just like to keep gaslighting myself that I’m almost finished, it helps to cope with the bitter and metallic taste.
Elijah: You’re really cool for a new kid, Gianna. We should definitely hang out like this more often!
Gianna: Aww, thanks! I love getting to know you guys like this, it already makes me feel comfortable in the U.S. Cause trust me, life in Sparta was very different, but my dad says that Colorado would feel a lot more settled.
Caleb: Well, I know I’d like to hear more about it. What was life in Sparta like? I know from history class last year that they were…pretty violent people.
Gianna: Oh yeah, for sure! Life in Ancient Greece was a lot depending on where you lived. I mean, you got great education in Athens, constant training starting at age seven in Sparta, Thebes, they seemed pretty chill, and Ithaca, oh, I’ve always wanted to see Ithaca, I heard it’s beautiful there! And the Greek Pantheon was amazing, I loved getting to say my prayers and leave my offerings at various temples. There was this one temple dedicated to Apollon, my dad took me there once and let me just say-
Gianna’s words seemed to fade as Caleb froze with shock.
What did she mean by all this? Prayers? Worship? Temples? And with NO mentions of God at all? Maybe he was imagining things, the devil might’ve been playing some sick tricks on him.
Caleb cleared his throat, his friends could sense his now antsy mood.
Caleb: Oh, that’s cool. And, t-tell me, what religion do you follow?
Gianna: Oh, it’s not common here in the U.S, but it’s called Hellenism, the worship of the Greek Pantheon and its Gods and Goddesses.
Before Caleb could speak, the bell rang, Gianna waved to her new friends as she left for class once more. Elijah and Nico were happy to make the new girl feel welcome.
But Caleb?
His view on her was different now. How could she do this to him?
How could she not see God as the one and only holy father of the world, like he did?
It almost sickened him, he felt betrayed to the core. Elijah and Nico noticed this, patting Caleb’s shoulder to gain his attention back.
Elijah: Uhhh, Caleb?
Nico: You okay there, bud?
Caleb: Huh? Yeah, I’m fine. I’m heading back to class, see you guys in a bit.
Elijah and Nico stared at each other with the same amount of confusion, before waving and walking back to class.
Caleb, on the other hand, grabbed his Bible and read through it during the entire walk to class, determined to awaken his love, to free her from this “religion” and set her soul free, back to God where it belonged.
Notes:
Hey guys. Sooo, as you can tell, this is where the Religious conflict comes into play. This is my first time writing a complex character dynamic, and I'm still doing research as we speak and as I write. That being said, if I offend you, I'm SO sorry. But if this, and other chapters that follow Religious conflict resonate with you, you're welcome.
Chapter 3: The New Girl
Chapter Text
Now, you’re probably wondering about Gianna’s point of view, who she is, and why she’s here. Well, don’t worry, we’re going to cover her.
Gianna was born into a good family, living in modern day Sparta and learning about the history of her culture and family.
She was always pretty shy, but when she first interacted with the Greek Pantheon? It’s like her confidence went up in an instant.
She loved to hear her dad’s stories, she loved to visit temples and leave her Patrons offerings every night and day. It was routined at this point, but it was a routine she always looked forward to.
But then, they had to move to the boring old U.S. and their boring old Colorado. The whole drive to their new home wasn’t better than the flight there.
Gianna: I still don’t see why we had to leave Sparta, dad. I mean, we were doing fine there, we had a good home, I had my friends. Why did we have to leave?
William: There are many other business opportunities here, sweetie. And if I want to finish school and get a better job for us, we have to move, and the best options for a future career are here in the States. I know, it’ll be a lot to adjust to, but I promise we’ll be okay.
Gianna: Will…I still be able to pray by the beach? Are there any temples we can still go to?
William: Well, I’m not sure this place is too big on temples, hun. But if I can find a good beach, we can go there for your prayers as many times as you want, okay?
Gianna: Okay dad, thanks.
When they arrived at their new home, they were quick to settle their basic necessities, clearly there was more to do, but it was a long move, and the two needed their rest.
However, Gianna spent her night doing the one thing she was looking forward to the most, setting up her altars in her new room.
She found the perfect shelf to put her paintings, laid out all her candles, and decorated the wall around it, making the scene before her hands down beautiful.
Gianna raised her hands high, praying to Hermes, she called “O blessed Hermes, kindly God of
wanderers and travelers, to you I give my thanks.
For safe walks on dangerous and unknown roads,
For safe journeys in places both known and new,
For kind strangers who have assisted me, And for the peace of a journey shared with your presence, I give my thanks.”
Gianna slowly lowered her arms, feeling content after thanking the swift God of travels for her safe journey here, laying out offerings by his altar before finally going to bed.
The next morning was a bit better, though to Gianna, it was weird to wake up in silence.
No more greetings by the herds of sheep outside her window, no more running off at sunrise to pray by the shore, it was nothing like she’d ever known before, and she thought that maybe this is what the fair nymph, Calypso felt far before Odysseus’ arrival to her island.
Gianna went downstairs, seeing her dad on his knees, hands on the ground, praying to Hypnos once more. She didn’t dare disturb him, knowing he needed this.
After he witnessed her mother die, she knew her dad had many sleepless nights ahead of him, and Hypnos was his only comfort and remedy. Only when he was done did Gianna finally approach him, pulling him into a hug from behind.
Gianna: I assume last night was hard, huh?
William: Same as always, sweetie. Not even melatonin could knock me out. But hey, I wouldn’t dwell on it too much, with the blessed lord of sleep, I’m reassured tonight will be different. Now, come on, I need to get you registered for school.
Gianna: That’s why you asked me to get up this early, dad?
William: Hey, you need to go at some point! Now come on, I already got you everything you need, so don’t worry about it. Just worry about being you, and all the new knowledge you’ll learn here.
Gianna followed her dad out the door, grabbing the backpack he got her and hopping into the car. She sat silently for a moment, her hands slightly shaking in her lap. Her dad was quick to notice, before getting an idea.
William: What’s wrong? Someone a little nervous for school? How about a nice hymn to soothe us both?
Gianna: Yeah, sounds good, dad. Maybe the one for Athena, since I’m going to school?
William: Coming right up, sweetheart!
Gianna settled back in her seat, her dad connecting his phone and playing the hymn. It was relaxing, and it was as if both of them could feel the Goddess’ presence following them down the road.
It put Gianna at ease, getting the time to hear these hymns with her dad. It was a special thing they shared, and she was grateful for it every time.
Eventually, Gianna and her dad pulled up to the school, they walked to the Main Office, waiting to get checked in.
William: Alright hun, I’m gonna be here signing you in, you can start asking the other kids for directions if you need to.
Gianna: Okay, sure. But…I’m still kinda nervous about this, dad.
William: I know you are, Gianna. So am I. But, we can’t keep you locked away at home forever, you need to finish school, and it would be a great chance for you to make some new friends here! Who knows? Maybe among that crowd, there will be a few Hellenics mixed in.
Gianna: That….would be nice. Yeah, I’ll try, dad. I’ll see you after school?
William: I’ll be there, kid. Now go on, have a good day.
Gianna: Thanks dad, love you!
Gianna made her way out of the office and in with the crowd. But the second she left, her confidence dropped, well, most of it. She stood tall, took a breath, and made her way through the crowd.
Along the way, she noticed a boy staring at her.
Strange. Was he judging her, or was this how all Americans treated new kids?
Maybe she was the first new kid they got in a while. In any case, Gianna shrugged it off and went on her way.
The first class of the day was…a lot. The English teacher asked Gianna to introduce herself, which in her mind, could’ve gone better.
Gianna: Well, my name’s Gianna, though you guys can call me Gia. I moved here from Sparta, and I am a Hellenic.
Student 1: What’s that? Do you worship Hell or something?
Gianna: Wh-what? No! I don’t worship-
Student 2: And why do you smell like that? It’s hurting my head.
Gianna: Well, I do go a bit hard on incense while praying, so-
Student 3: Do you practice witchcraft?
Gianna: Well, some Hellenics do, but not me! I haven’t-
Teacher: Alright class, that’s enough. Now, let’s get on with the lecture.
Yeah, it sure could’ve gone better.
And somehow, it did.
Despite being late to her advisory class due to a fight breaking out in the middle of the halls, Gianna found placidness in her advisory class. It was calm, it was peaceful, everyone was keeping to themselves, the perfect opportunity to catch up on mythology.
However, as she was digging through her bag, it tipped and spilled all her books. Gianna sighed, collecting her books, hoping things didn’t get worse from here.
Suddenly, she heard a voice.
Caleb: Uhh, excuse me? I think you missed this one.
Gianna looked up, meeting Calebs’ eyes for the first time, and by the Gods, was he cute. Her heart was racing, she felt dizzy just looking at him, feeling like Eros had struck her hard with his arrows. Eventually, Gianna found her voice again, slowly reaching out to grab her book back.
Gianna: Oh, thanks.
Caleb: No problem. Say, I haven’t…seen you around in the halls. Are you new here?
Gianna felt like she was about to pass out, was this boy really talking to her? Man, was he something. Gianna felt herself spiraling, secretly tugging at her hair to snap her out of it.
Gianna looked back up at Caleb, surprised and flustered. Was this his way of coming onto her?
No, no, get that thought out of your head, you just met him! Gianna fought to keep herself on track, sighing softly before taking out her schedule.
Gianna: Do you guys have the B lunch period?
Caleb: Yeah we- we do.
Gianna: Then I’ll meet you guys there!
Caleb: Great! Oh, uhh, I’m Caleb, by the way, welcome to Stardom Road.
Gianna: Thanks. I’m Gianna. I’ll see you at lunch, Caleb.
Gianna walked off back to her seat, calmly sitting and going back to reading. But by the gods, she was screaming in her head. She couldn’t help but sneak glances at Caleb from afar, excited to see him again soon.
And lunch? It was even better! Caleb and his group didn’t judge her, they loved her company, and they didn’t mind the underlying incense smell on her! She felt more than lucky to find a great group of friends.
And just when it was getting good, the bell rang. Gianna got up with her books and left, waving to her friends before leaving, not noticing the change in Caleb’s expression.
When dismissal came, Gianna rushed to the car, swinging the door open and hopping inside, blasting hymns to Aphrodite.
William: W-woah sweetheart! Someone must’ve had a good first day, huh? Wanna tell me about it?
Gianna: Yes! I made three new friends today, they liked my stories, they wanted to know about my life in Sparta, they seemed interested in Hellenism, and, and!-
William: And what, Gianna?
Gianna: I…I think Eros struck me with his arrows, and Aphrodite blessed my eyes. I met the most amazing boy in school today.
William: That’s nice to hear, sweetheart! Why don’t we go to the store and get ingredients to make some Baklavas while you tell me more about this crush of yours. Who knows? Maybe his family and I can arrange a marriage for you both~
Gianna: Dad, I just met him!
William: Hahaha, I was kidding, Gianna! But seriously, let’s go do some father-daughter shopping while you tell me more about this boy.
Gianna smiles, ranting to her dad about Caleb the entire drive to the market and home.
Chapter Text
Up above, high upon Olympus, the Gods were up to their usual duties. Helios, Apollo, and Hemera flew across the sky, welcoming the daylight. While on the usual delivery run, Hermes hears a soft voice, coming from the world below.
Hermes: Huh, someone’s praying for me? Been a while since one of the Greeks did that!
Hermes dropped his bags, summoning his staff and swiftly flying down to Earth, invisible to the naked eye. However, his course of direction was off, far away from Greece, throwing the God off.
Hermes: Strange. Usually I'm called from Greece. Wonder where this prayer is coming from?
Hermes darted across the sky, landing in Colorado, surprised to see a young Hellenic praying in her room.
Gianna: “O blessed Hermes, kindly God of wanderers and travelers, to you I give my thanks. For safe walks on dangerous and unknown roads, For safe journeys in places both known and new, For kind strangers who have assisted me, And for the peace of a journey shared with your presence, I give my thanks.”
Hermes gazed at the young girl, wanting to further interact with her, but knowing it was risky to do it in his God form. So for a while, he stayed, sitting by the altar the girl had made in his honor.
The sight left Hermes speechless, there were many other altars here as well, some to his brothers and sisters, some to his uncles and aunts, it made him ecstatic.
As quickly as he showed up, he left just as fast, making his way back to Olympus, crash landing right into Zeus.
Zeus: By the gods, Hermes, what the fuck was that for?!
Hermes: My apologies, father. But I have just returned with great news! I just found a surviving Hellenic, two of them! Outside of Greece!
Zeus: Oh, now you’ve got me interested. Please, show me the way, son.
After guiding his father back to that house, Zeus called upon the other Olympians to see it for themselves.
Poseidon: Woah, who knew a scruffy teenager could actually be this devoted.
Hestia: They’re all so beautiful. And it feels so cozy, too.
Aphrodite: So this is the girl that’s been praying to me and Eros all day, huh? She couldn’t stop ranting about this boy she met, it’s adorable.
Artemis: You know what this means, right? We have a chance to be known again, this is the girl we’ve been waiting for!
Zeus: Quite right. But, how can we get to her? We can’t show ourselves to her, she’ll end up with Hades when she sees us!
Hermes: Uhh, father? Maybe we could try that whole “high school” idea again?
Athena: That might actually work, dad. Look.
Athena walks over to the girls’ backpack, holding it up along with a map of her school.
Athena: It says she goes to “Stardom Road High School”, if we can shapeshift into a human form, we can befriend her, teach her, guide her, and help her spread the knowledge of Hellenism and the Pantheon to her school!
Zeus: Athena, Hermes, both of you have such a great idea! Then it’s settled, we will aid this girl through school, and we will finally be known by the world again!
Poseidon: Just one problem, little bro. We’re Gods, Deities, Higher Beings, how are we supposed to act human among the others?
Hades: Yeah, it sounds hard. Not just for you, but any of us. What if we accidentally show ourselves? O-or use our powers instinctively in front of them?
Demeter: Maybe you will, Hades.
Hestia: The point is, we haven’t been this close to society in centuries. What if we mess this up? We can’t afford to fail, brother.
Zeus: I know. This is going to be a long shot, for everybody. So, let’s not jump into it right away. Starting tonight, we will practice and learn everything it is to act more human. So go off, learn from the mortals, and meet back at Olympus tonight to practice!
The Gods all set off, spending the entire day studying the humans, watching their every move and action, every call and response, wanting to master it to a tee.
Upon returning to Olympus, the Gods gathered to show off their skills.
Dionysus: Alright, everyone! As the God of Theater, it will be my duty to rate and give comments on your performances, to better prepare you for entering the human realm. Now, let’s have our first actors, first scene, and get started!
Dionysus snapped his fingers, creating a few small scenes and scenarios for the Gods to practice with.
Going forward, Athena and Ares went first, getting into their positions.
Dionysus: Alright. Your scenario is a fight breaking out in the middle of the halls. We’re starting now, scene 1, take one, action!
Athena and Ares nodded to each other, walking side by side and watching the fight commence.
Athena: Oh, it seems those kids are…fighting. We should be responsible students and tell an adult about this. Right?
Ares stood by silently, trying not to be tempted into joining the fight, meanwhile Athena stayed perfectly in character, gently slapping Ares’ side to snap him out of it.
Ares: U-uh, yeah. We must be the better people and….speak up about this.
Dionysus: Brilliant, you guys are killing it so far! My, am I honored to be directing this simple, easy, full proof-
Suddenly, Ares couldn’t resist any longer, he lunged in to join the fight, Athena watched on with disappointment, why must her half brother be like this?
Dionysus: Wh- what the?! Cut!! Ugh, Ares, you were doing so well, why must you give in now?! We should’ve put this guy on a leash centuries ago!!
Okay, okay, no problem. This was one scene, how bad could the others get?
Trust me when I say, it went terrible.
Time and time again the gods ran scenes back, rehearsed lines, practiced containing their rage and petty vengeances, yet they folded again and again.
It drove Dionysus mad, watching his relatives repeatedly break character. He smashed his chalice on the ground, enraged and exhausted, though you could blame it on the many cups of wine he downed while directing.
Dionysus: Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut!! Goddamnit, guys! How…how many times are we going to have to run these damn scenes?! Ugh, I…I think I need to go sober. This is just…not working for me.
Zeus: See? You guys stressed my child out so much, he wants to be sober for once!
Hera: So you’re actually concerned for your children? Heh, well, that’s a first!
Zeus: Wh-whatever! Now, can we all just get back on task and try to manage this better? If we want this plan to work, we need to be 100% down on our acts!
Hades: Well, I know Hestia is doing good, she’s been around humanity the longest, so she’s a natural. And, maybe if I can bring Persephone with me, then-
Demeter: Slow down there, you traitours bastard! You are NOT bringing my daughter into this, in no way, shape or form!!
Hades: Sister, please calm down and listen-
Demeter: Don’t you dare give me that title, Hades! I will not allow my daughter to associate with you, not in life, not in death, and CERTAINLY not as a human!!
Athena: Demeter, calm yourself. We don’t need another nasty fight to build between you two.
Look, I know being, well, human, is not easy for any of us. But if we want this plan to work, we have to sell ourselves as mortal beings, and we can’t do that if we’re constantly at each other's throats!
So please, for everyone’s sake, we need to control our powers and pettiness towards ourselves!
Hades nodded, only wanting to keep the peace, while Demeter scoffed and went back to the fields to collect the remaining harvest before Fall arose.
Zeus: Athena is right. If we want to spread our cultures and stories, we must put our rivalries aside, become one unit again, and show those mortals who granted them the world they have now!
Hermes: I agree! We must put an end to our differences, because one wrong move, and we’re done for. We must stand together, like the strong pantheon we are, and once we do, we’ll finally be known again!
The Gods all agreed, putting their best effort forward and preparing to strike.
Once Dionysus sobered up, the practice rehearsals seemed to go smoother with the Gods' new determination.
Dionysus: Brilliant, brilliant! Great rehearsal, everyone! We are sure to take the world by storm!
Dionysus went to take a swing of his wine, but Poseidon pulled his chalice away.
Poseidon: Hey, if you want to come with us, just try to chill with the alcohol, alright Dio? Underage mortals aren’t allowed to be drunk anymore.
Dionysus: Ugh, bummer. Well, if I must. Now then, the next thing we need is convincing attire!
Zeus: What’s so wrong with what we wear?
Apollo: Father, let’s be real. Most of the Gods like to wear, or rather, not wear a lot on our bodies.
Artemis: And showing too much skin nowadays is considered very vulgar.
Zeus: Oh, very well. And what would regular mortals consider stylish and non-vulgar?
Aphrodite: Oh, let me handle this, Zeus. I’ve studied modern day attire long enough, and I think it’s finally time to put my research to good use.
One by one, with every God and Goddess, Aphrodite went to work, tailoring different and unique outfits for everyone, adding a few details to mark their personalities and make it easier to recognize each other.
Aphrodite: And, all done! If any of you need some catering or adjustments, just let me know~.
Ares: That’s my girl, always ready to lend us some of her charm and assistance.
Poseidon: Huh, I admit, we don’t look half bad.
Zeus: I must say, for my first time not showing skin, this is quite comfortable.
Hestia: Thank you, dear Aphrodite. This will surely help us blend in with the other students.
Aphrodite: My pleasure, I’ve always wanted an opportunity to make these kinds of inspired outfits.
Hera: Well, now I think we’re finally ready to do this.
Zeus: That’s right, let us begin our quest!
The Gods all prepared to leave, until Hephaestus stopped them for a moment
Hephaestus: Wait! Before we leave, shouldn’t we come up with new names? You know, so we don’t raise suspicion?
The Gods stopped, realizing he was right. And it was the weekend, so school was out. So they had a busy two days of planning ahead of them.
Notes:
Hey again guys! Soooo, in the next few chapters, when I finally introduce the Gods as humans, I will name them after their voice actors from Epic and Stories from Styx. Their names will switch when they're in and out of their God forms. So if y'all know the VA's names by heart like me, nice job, you won't get lost in chapter 6, see you then!
Chapter 5: The Sleepover
Chapter Text
Ah yes, Friday night.
The best time of day for any high school student.
For Gianna, this meant she could bring her friends over for the first time, and she was more than excited to see them, especially Caleb.
She waited by the doorstep with her dad all day, ready to have the best sleepover ever.
Gianna: And remember, don’t be afraid to join in our fun, dad. I know other teens hate when their parents are around their friends, but not me!
William: Aww, well, I appreciate it, sweetie. But I do have some paperwork to fill out tonight, but I will be sure to get to know your friends while they’re here. And I will most definitely be talking about marriage arrangements with your boyfriend~.
Gianna: Dad, stop it, haha! We just met, and you’re already welcoming him to the family? Maybe wait until we’ve known each other for at least 3 years.
William: Alright, we’ll save the conversation for later. Hey look, I think that’s them!
Gianna shot up from the front step, rushing over to greet her friends as they exited the car, hugging each of them tightly.
Gianna: Hey guys, thanks so much for coming! I’ve been so excited to have you guys over for the weekend!
Elijah: And thank you for having us over! Man, it’s been too long since I could hang out with my friends like this!
Nico: Tell me about it. Now come on, let’s get our weekend on!
Elijah and Nico were quick to go inside, but not before greeting Gianna’s dad.
He already saw the two kids as family and welcomed them in.
Meanwhile, Gianna stayed outside, waiting for Caleb to arrive. And once she saw him pull in, she was over the moon about it.
She ran over and waited beside the car, smiling as she saw Caleb exit.
Gianna: Hey Caleb, so glad you could make it! Come on, the others are already waiting inside.
Caleb: Woah, slow down there, bud. I’m coming!
Before Caleb could leave, his mother handed him a large book, fixing up his stray hairs and set him off.
Maria: Don’t be staying up late, and remember our rules we’ve established.
Caleb: Yes, mother. I know.
Maria: Good. Now, have fun, my little angel.
Caleb nodded, before walking with Gianna to her house.
Gianna noticed the book in Caleb’s arms, recognizing that familiar title, the Bible.
She hadn’t noticed until now that Caleb was Christian, but shook off her surprised expression, not wanting to seem judgemental.
Gianna: Oh, I didn’t know you and your family were Christian.
Caleb: Yeah, we are pretty passionate about it. I used to go to Sunday School, though I still do.
My mother takes me to church very often, and you know, always gotta wear our cross jewelry.
Gianna looked down at Caleb’s chest, watching the gold cross sway with his every movement. But she was quick to look away, trying not to check him out.
Gianna: Oh, that’s cool. I actually wear devoted jewelry of my own, so does my dad.
I have a lot in my room, I can show you when we get there.
Caleb gripped his bible tightly, still uneasy about this other religion Gianna seemed to follow.
It didn’t feel right to him, it challenged everything he was taught by his mother.
Oh god, his mother, what would she ever think if she knew?
Once they got to the house, Gianna opened the door, only to find Elijah and Nico crammed next to her dad.
He was busy reading to them and telling them stories, and the teens seemed very interested in his enthusiasm.
William: -and with that agreement, we have the four seasons! It was such a sweet yet tragic story, I would read it to Gianna every night when she was young! She was always one for drama filled myths.
Nico: So, when Persephone is on earth with her mother, we have spring and summer. But when she is with Hades, it’s fall and winter, right?
William: Exactly! That’s how the four seasons were created. Demeter has control over all plant life, so when she parts with her daughter, she grieves and neglects her duties, which prevents the growth of plantlife. Hence Fall and Winter, when plants or crops don’t grow.
Elijah: That’s very interesting, sir!
Gianna laughed at the sight, amused by her father’s antics and his welcoming energy.
Caleb, on the other hand, was taken aback by the story.
The kidnapping of a Goddess resulted in the seasons? How did that even work? His mother always said, God created the seasons, and he always believed it. And if he ever questioned, it was another cleansing at church.
Nico and Elijah noticed Caleb, waving to their friend and smiling.
Meanwhile, Gianna’s dad walked over, shaking his hand and smiling.
William: Well, you must be Caleb. My daughter’s told me much about you, welcome! Now, if you ever need anything during your visit, don’t be shy of asking. I always ensure our guests are welcome and comfortable for as long as their stay lasts.
Before Caleb could get another word in, William handed him a small bag, filled to the brim with homemade incense.
William: A gift, from my family to yours. I hope you enjoy your visit here, Caleb. Gianna, I need to get some work done, so how about you take your friends up to your room and have some fun? I’ll be sure to order food in a bit.
Gianna: Okay, thanks dad! Come on, guys. I have so much to show you!!
Gianna raced up the stairs, urging the others to follow, and they did.
They all made their way to Gianna’s room, which lingered of Lavender and a strong presence.
Her overall room was a sight to behold. LED lights covered the ceiling, ready to provide a night show. A projector sitting on her desk to put on shows and movies.
There were many statues and mythology books on her shelves, her baby blue walls a star contrast to the environment.
Gianna: Now, you guys can set your things down near the rack. I have something really special to show you all.
Doing as told, the trio put their things down, following Gianna to a small corner in her room.
What could’ve been an extra storage closet, was turned into something much more special.
Upon opening the door, there was a small room for prayers. Books were laid out, altars devoted to many familiar Greek Gods.
Elijah and Nico were amazed at the sight, while Caleb was left speechless, an uneasy expression gracing his face.
Elijah: Woah, you made this, Gianna?
Nico: It looks amazing, Gia. You must really be into Greek Mythology, huh?
Gianna: Well, I’m not just into Greek Mythology as a hobby, but my dad and I are Hellenists.
We worship and pray to these Deities every day and night. We pray for ourselves, for each other, for the world. They’ve become a big part of our lives.
Elijah: That’s so cool! I always liked mythology, but I never knew it was a religion.
Nico: My history class is teaching us about Hellenism, it’s really interesting. I never thought I’d actually meet a Hellenist too!
Gianna: Thanks! Hey, maybe I can teach you both a few prayers, maybe how we do things in my religion? That is if you want to, I’m not one to force my religious beliefs on anyone.
Elijah: Are you kidding? Of course I’d love to learn!
Nico: It could also help me in future class projects, lead the way, Gia!
Gianna: Great! You wanna try too, Caleb? I know we both believe in different things, so I understand if you want to sit this one out.
Caleb: O-oh, thanks. I just…need the bathroom real quick, if that’s okay.
Gianna: Uhh, yeah sure. Go right ahead.
Caleb nodded, before rushing to the bathroom. As he leaves, he can faintly hear Gianna teaching his friends different prayers and practices. Once Caleb is alone, he locks the door, growing distressed.
Caleb sat by the sink, his reflection anxious and confused. Why did Gianna have to believe all this? Was this the world’s way of testing him and his beliefs? If so, why was it so hard? Why was he suddenly doubting all he was taught?
God, his mother would be so mad at him.
Caleb sat silently for a long time, saying a short prayer of his own, hoping he would be forgiven for his sinful doubts.
Eventually, Caleb came out, finding the group hanging by the altars, Gianna telling stories about each of the Gods.
Gianna: And this is Circe. She’s a witch, but also the Goddess of magic, transformation, and witchcraft. In one famous epic, she turned men into pigs with her powers!
Elijah: She looks so pretty, I would never have thought she’d be a witch.
Nico: Yeah, is that what she always looks like?
Gianna: No, and that’s the cool thing about Hellenism, the Deities can look like whatever you think they look like.
Nico: So, if I believe that Poseidon had a tail, is that okay?
Gianna: Yeah, of course! In fact, some other Hellenists depict Poseidon with tails or scales.
Elijah: And if I think Aphrodite is chubby, is that okay? Or does she HAVE to be skinny?
Gianna: Nope, she can be chubby! In fact, some old Greek statues depict Aphrodite as a chubby woman.
Caleb: And uhh, Gianna?
Gianna: Yes, Caleb?
Caleb: Where does…God or Jesus come into play here in these myths?
Gianna: Oh, well. They don’t. In Hellenistic times, the Greeks believed the world was born from Chaos, a vast but sentient void of nothing. Then came Nyx and Erebus, night and darkness. And from there, we got Hemera and Aether, light and day. In no story was God or Jesus ever involved in the creation of the world.
Caleb: O-oh, yeah. Guess that…makes sense.
Suddenly, Gianna’s dad called out to the kids, takeout had arrived and it was time to eat.
Gianna: Come on, guys. We gotta eat. Oh, while we go, I can teach you guys how we say grace.
Elijah: Oh, sounds fun!
Nico: Count me in too, let’s go!
The group all ran downstairs, Caleb following behind, still anxious and questioning everything.
He didn’t hate Gianna, nor her beliefs. He never truly did. But the thought of being tested like this? The thought of his mother’s reaction? He was scared of it all. God, he couldn’t wait till it was Monday again
Chapter Text
The weekend was coming to a close, the Sunday Night moon was rising in the distance. Gianna and Caleb were looking out the window, while Elijah and Nico were fast asleep.
Gianna: You know, they say Nyx and Erebus fly over the sky, creating night and darkness around the world. And then, when day comes, Helios and Hemera fly over the sky, welcoming the day! Isn’t that interesting?
Caleb: Yeah…it is.
Caleb thought to himself for a moment, and thought about all he’d seen and heard. He held his hands, sighing softly before looking at Gianna.
Caleb: Gianna? Do you…ever doubt your beliefs?
Gianna: What do you mean? Like, think it’s all fake?
Caleb: Yeah, like that. Do you…ever think that your entire life, you’ve been believing a lie? That…everything you’ve been told up till now is worthless?
Gianna thought to herself for a bit, thinking back to all her experiences in past time.
All those days where she was tested, all the times people asked her to prove herself, it was hard. But she shook her head.
Gianna: I don’t doubt my beliefs. But, I also don’t doubt other people’s beliefs.
We all come from different backgrounds, different beliefs. Just because I’ve been faced with other religions who say what I believe it’s wrong, doesn’t mean it is.
All my life, I’ve been raised in a Hellenistic household, it’s all I’ve ever known. But, getting to learn about other people’s point of view, it’s very interesting.
Some say there were six days of creation, some say the heavens and earth collided, some say we came from a cosmic egg from space! All of these stories, they don’t make me doubt. They make me excited to share my point of view, my story.
Caleb silently listened, feeling a mix of emotions in his heart. He felt angry at himself for listening to all this, he felt scared for doubting everything he was taught, he felt sinful for ever questioning his religion.
But, he also felt some form of relief. But why? Why is he feeling happy about learning about other religions? Christianity was his lifeline, his home, his style, just like his mother wanted from him.
Caleb nodded, before turning away and settling into his sleeping bag. Gianna watched, feeling concerned.
Gianna: Hey, you alright? Did I…say something wrong?
Caleb: It’s nothing. I’m just tired, that’s all.
Gianna: Oh, okay. I understand. We should head to bed, goodnight.
Gianna laid in her bed, turning off the LED lights and drifting off to sleep.
Time felt slow in the pitch black room, the night quiet and peaceful.
However, Caleb trembled in his sleep, tossing and turning like crazy as nightmares stormed his head.
???: He’s a disgrace!
???: Sinful children like him shall burn in Hell, never to meet God in his Kingdom ever in his life!
???: Cleanse him, cleanse his soul and free him from the demons above!!
Maria: How did I end up with a son like you? How could I allow such evil to desecrate your soul!!
Caleb: N- no, mother please, I’m sorry, forgive me, please!! I’ll be better, I promise, please forgive me for all the wrong I’ve done!!!
Caleb shot awake, panting and sweating heavily, tears welling in his eyes. Caleb sat in the dark for a long time, before getting up and out of the room to wash his face.
As he walked into the hallway, he noticed a dim light glowing downstairs.
Curiosity struck, and he slowly made his way downstairs, staring into the living room.
There was a small altar there, Gianna’s dad was kneeling down in front of it. He sat in silence, holding a small candle in one hand, his free hand resting on the ground. Caleb sighed, before approaching.
Caleb: Uhhh, excuse me, sir?
William: Oh, Caleb. What are you doing up so late? You guys have school tomorrow.
Caleb: Oh, I couldn't sleep. And- …I might’ve had a bit of a nightmare.
William: Oh, those are never fun. But hey, if it makes you feel better, I had a nightmare too.
Caleb: What about, if you don’t mind me asking?
William nodded for Caleb to approach, and he did, sitting by the altar. William then held a photo up for Caleb to see, a picture of him and his wife, holding a younger Gianna in their arms.
William: A few months after we had Gianna, we heard someone invading our home. My wife went to check it out, while I stayed to watch our daughter.
Then….I heard it.
She had to fight that invader off, and….he got away. By the time help arrived, it was too late. I had to watch my wife die in my arms, live with the guilt and thought that Gianna will never get to know the amazing person her mother was. I’ve been haunted with nightmares of it ever since.
Caleb listened the entire time, going through a range of emotions the whole time.
He didn’t know what to say, what to do, he just sat in silence.
Eventually, he found his voice.
Caleb: I’m sorry, sir.
William: Don’t be, she’s safe now. Hades and his wife will protect her, and the many souls that’ve left before us. But, that’s enough talking about me. Let’s try to help you get back to sleep, follow me.
William led Caleb through the dark halls, eventually finding another small altar near the window.
William: Get on your knees, hopefully this will soothe you to sleep, it’s never let me down in the past.
Caleb: O-okay, and what are we doing again?
William: We are invoking Hypnos, the God of Sleep and Dreams. I pray to him every night to help me sleep, and it’s helped very often.
Caleb: Okay, yeah, sure.
Caleb sat quietly, watching as William laid out fresh lavender upon the altar. He then lit the candles, looking at Caleb.
William: Now, place your hands on the floor, close your eyes, and just relax while I say the prayer.
Caleb: Okay, I can do that.
Caleb rested his hands on the floor, sighing softly before closing his eyes, the faint sound of William’s praying caught his attention.
William: Hypnos, bright-winged bringer of blessed sleep. I ask for your visit on this night, to provide us a break from the day and grant us the energy for what is to come. May your dreams cradle us in comfort through the unknown.
As the prayer went on, Caleb felt a strong presence forming in the room. It scared him, it was nothing like the divine presence he felt at church, if he even felt any at all.
Actually, he didn’t. Every time he went to church, every prayer he said, every hymn he sang, it felt unanswered every time. Like God wasn’t listening at all.
But now?
He felt Hypnos, it was like the Chthonic God was right there, holding his hand and hushing him into slumber.
Caleb sagged in place for a moment, before perking up again and opening his eyes.
William: There, we’re done. Try to get some sleep, okay kid? We gotta get you to school tomorrow.
Caleb: Alright, thank you sir, goodnight.
William: Goodnight, Caleb. May the deathless Gods ease your dreams.
Caleb walked back to bed, laying in his sleeping bag once more. He felt anxious at first, but it soon dissipated into peace.
His eyes grew heavy, his body relaxing underneath the sheets, and he fell asleep, finally finding peace in his dreams.
The next morning.
The sun rose with the coming day, the birds outside singing their morning songs. Suddenly, the peace was disturbed by a loud alarm clock.
The group groaned in annoyance, and Gianna sat up to shut off the alarm.
Gianna: Morning, guys. We gotta get up, come on.
Elijah: This weekend was fun, but man, I wish it could last forever.
Nico: I’ll say. Why can’t it just be Christmas break already?
Caleb stirred awake at the noise of his friends, sitting up and thinking to himself.
Did that prayer really help that much? Did he just have a divine experience last night? Why wasn’t his experience the same when he went to church?
Caleb was snapped out of his thoughts as Gianna patted his shoulder.
Gianna: Hey, Caleb. Come on, we gotta get ready for school!
Caleb: O-oh yeah, I’m up, don’t worry.
Gianna: Alright. My dad’s making breakfast and packing our lunches, so take your time, we won’t leave you behind.
Gianna walked out the room, leaving Caleb alone with his thoughts. He was confused, upset, he didn’t know what to do with his growing doubts.
Quickly, he got on his knees in front of the window, praying like his mother always taught him how to do.
He prayed and prayed, begging for some kind of presence, any reassurance that God was with him.
But there was nothing.
Just Caleb, his thoughts, the silence.
And that hurt.
Usually people would describe their life with God as magical, as joyful, a presence that would never go unknown. But with him, he was only met with silence.
Caleb: Father, please. If you can hear me now, if you can see the pain this brings me. Please, don’t leave me here alone. I….I don’t want to let you down.
Caleb sat hopelessly alone, the anxiety in his heart growing as the silence lingered.
Eventually, Caleb gave in and went downstairs, sitting beside his friends.
William: Alright kids, make sure to eat up good before I drop you off. I don’t want anyone going hungry today.
Gianna: Thanks, dad. Come on, guys. Time to say grace.
Elijah and Nico nodded, before bowing their heads to the table.
Gianna lit up a few candles, placing a small offering by an altar dedicated to Hestia.
Caleb looked confused at first, but decided to imitate, bowing his own head.
The only thing known was the scent of fragrant cinnamon and Gianna’s soft voice.
Gianna: Goddess of the Hearth, bless this meal. Bless my friends and family with your nourishment.
Bless our stomachs with your mighty flame and give us the power to heal. With our power so mote be.
Once the prayer was done, everyone opened their eyes, settling for their meal.
As they ate, Caleb felt a strange, comforting presence nearby. It confused him.
After the prayer last night, and the prayer now. He was Christian, yet his connection to these Gods he never heard of was somehow stronger. What was going on with him?
Notes:
Hey guys!!
Big news for the story.
Soooo, as of the days before the Pilot was released, I have been working on 2 panel comics and cannon art for The Jr. Olympians!
This art features cannon designs for the Gods, antics that will further explore the characters, fun facts, not so fun facts, lore dropping, sneak peeks into future chapters, and more! And if I am able to, I can see if I can do drawing commissions, so start thinking about headcannons for the characters, and/or some funny shenanigans you want to see the group get into.
All my art will be posted on my community posts on my Youtube Channel, @animatingtrainee, where I will also try to promote my story!
Thanks for reading, and have a great day! :))
Chapter Text
It was another busy day at school, just the morning before 1st period felt like an eternity.
Gianna was flipping through her sketchbook, doodling and gazing at many depictions of the Greek Gods she’s drawn in the past. She held one of them high for her friends to see.
Gianna: Okay, here’s one. Try and guess which God this is.
Elijah and Nico studied the drawing, trying to pinpoint and find key hints that could give the answer to them.
Elijah: She reminds me of that one drawing of Circe you made. Is she another Nymph or minor Goddess?
Gianna: Yep, you’re getting there.
Nico: Oh, is it Calypso? I know you’ve been meaning to draw her for a while.
Gianna: Yep, that’s right! I’m really proud of how this one turned out, I didn’t know if it would represent her well.
Elijah: Oh, trust me, she looks great!
Nico: Yeah, you’re deity art is always so fun to see!
Gianna: Aww, thanks guys! What about you, Caleb? Do you have any depictions of what God or Jesus looked like?
Caleb was nose deep in his bible, reciting prayers and trying to refresh his connection with God, if he…had any to begin with.
Because if he didn’t?
All Hell would truly break loose between him and his mother. He was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Gianna’s voice.
Caleb: Huh? Oh, yeah, I uhhh…have my versions. God is the sky, he’s light, he’s pretty much everything and everywhere. And Jesus, I’d say the usual, long brown hair, pretty blue eyes, kind heart, the usual depictions.
Gianna: Oh, cool. I always found the idea of God being everything very interesting. I mean, it gives worshipers that sense and comfort he’s always there for you, right?
Caleb: Yeah, s-something like that.
Eventually, the bell rang, dismissing the cafeteria to their 1st period class. The group went on their way to their classes, leaving their conversation behind for another time.
While on the way to World History, Gianna accidentally bumped into another boy. He was walking with a big group of boys and girls, all of them looked strong enough to gang up on her and hurt her if they chose to.
However, Gianna stayed calm, looking back to the boy she knocked into.
Gianna: Oh, I’m sorry about that. I should’ve looked up at the hall.
The boy looked Gianna up and down, his eyes slightly widened with recognition.
Oh god, this was her.
The girl they were waiting for. The rest of the group realized this too, they started to use their telepathic bond to communicate.
Poseidon: Oh god, it’s her! What should I do? What the hell do I say to her?!
Zeus: Just stay calm, try to act natural, like those other cool kids we saw earlier!
Athena: But don’t exaggerate the act, that’s how you get her suspicious.
Hermes: Guys, she’s looking at us, say something to her!
The group stared at Gianna for a long time, snapping out of their thoughts at her confused expression.
It was a long, awkward period of silence, before Poseidon finally spoke, trying not to crack.
Steven: O-oh, you’re alright, kid.
Poseidon smiled awkwardly, but Gianna still nodded. Suddenly, her gaze fell upon his wrist, seeing the bracelet around his wrist.
Gianna: Hey, not to assume anything upon the first meeting. But….are you a Hellenist?
Poseidon looked at his wrist, then to the rest of the group, then to Gianna. He nodded, trying to get on Gianna’s good side.
Steven: Oh, yeah, I’m a Hellenist alright! And so are my siblings here.
Gianna: Woah, you guys are ALL Hellenists? That’s soo cool! I mean, I’ve grown up in a Hellenic family my whole life, but to meet kids my age who also practice? It’s really exciting!
Gianna smiled, holding out her hand for Poseidon to shake.
Gianna: My name’s Gianna, nice to meet you guys!
Poseidon looked down at Gianna, stunned but amused. He had never really liked humanity as a whole, and he would never stoop to their level. But this girl? She was different, he almost felt drawn to her.
They had Kharis, a bond between a Mortal and a God. And seeing he was one of Gianna’s patron Gods, it no longer surprised Poseidon why he felt such a connection to her so soon. He reached for Gianna’s hand, gently shaking it.
Steven: My name’s Steven. The pleasure’s all mine, Gianna. Hey, during break, you want to hang out? I have a lot of siblings that I think you’ll find great company. You in?
Gianna: Are you kidding me? I would love that, Steven! I’ll meet you guys in the courtyard at 9:40!
Steven: Great, we’ll see you there, kid.
They all parted ways. Gianna felt over the moon to have found more Hellenists, she was so going to tell her dad about this.
Meanwhile, Poseidon and his group were freaking out. No way did they actually sell their performance, surely she caught on at some point, right?
Especially with Poseidon. If they were so close when it came to Kharis, could she sense he was a deity in disguise?
Maybe they’d see another time.
When it came time to go home, Gianna ran for her dad’s car, yanking the door open and jumping in.
Gianna: Dad, guess what? I just met a whole bunch of new students today, and they’re all Hellenists!!
William: See? I told you there’s going to be your kind of group around here! You want to hang out with them sometime after school? We can set up a day for you to visit.
Gianna: Yes, I would love that, thanks dad!
Meanwhile
Caleb was sitting in class, zoning out from the boring lecture. He was about to fall asleep, when he heard the classroom phone buzzing. He quickly sat up, hearing the teacher call his name.
Teacher: Hey Caleb, pack your things, your mom’s picking you up early.
Caleb sighed, remembering what day it was. Of course his mother was getting him out of class for church, again.
She’s done this many times before since he was in Kindergarten.
Caleb packed his bags and made his way to the main office, where his mother was waiting.
Caleb: Hey mother, I’m ready to go.
Maria: Hello, my angel! Come on, we can’t be late for the ceremony.
Without another word, Maria took Caleb’s hand and walked to the car.
Caleb expected this.
No real greeting, no ‘how are you’s’, no ‘how was your day’, nothing. Just another day of being dragged to church.
The car ride there was mostly silent, except for the hymns being played in the car’s background.
Maria: So, I was thinking, Caleb. You’ve cleansed your soul many times before, but you’ve never really committed yourself to the church. And being a child of God, we can’t have that. So, I want you to consider getting baptized this weekend.
Caleb perked up at the thought.
No, no, no way, never happening. Never. Well, that’s the answer Caleb could only give in his head.
In reality, this was never his choice, and his mother wouldn’t let him consider it.
At the end of the day, she was going to baptize him, end of discussion.
Caleb hated this. He felt conflicted, scared, confused.
It was already overwhelming enough that his beliefs were being tested, but now this? This was way too much too soon.
But…this wasn’t for debate.
This wasn’t his choice. If his mother wanted a baptized son, she was going to get just that. Caleb sighed, nodding slowly.
Caleb: I would…be honored, mother.
Maria: Splendid! You’re such a good boy, Caleb. The best child God could’ve ever given me. Your father would be so proud!
Caleb smiled the entire drive, but once they got home, once he reached his bed, the smile dropped.
Caleb: Uggghh, why is this f-...freaking happening?! I already feel sinful for doubting, but this?!
There has to be some way I can get out of this. Send someone in my place?
No, I can’t do that to some other kid! M..maybe I can fake illness?
No, lying is a sin, and she’ll just reschedule!
Caleb buried his head in his pillow, feeling defeated and scared. He looked up at the cross hanging on his wall, tears falling down his face as the overwhelming pressure started to cave him in.
Caleb: God, why am I so broken?
Maria passed by Caleb’s room, noticing his state. But instead of straight empathy, she frowned slightly.
Maria: My child, whatever could be bothering you right now?
Caleb: I-.... I’m just feeling stressed right now, mother.
Maria: And what for? You have a good life and God to protect you, what could possibly be stressing you out?
Caleb stayed silent, feeling guilty for being like this in front of his mother.
She was right. His life was good, he was safe, he had a parent who….sheltered him. Why was he feeling this way when he had no real world problems?
Caleb: I-...I’m sorry. I’ll…get my act together.
Maria: Good.
Maria smiled softly, sitting beside Caleb and putting an arm around him. Caleb flinched at the sudden affection, feeling awkward and lonely.
Maria: You know I love you, right Caleb?
Caleb: Y-..yes.
Maria: And you know I’m always here for you, right?
Caleb: Y-..yes.
Maria: Good, you should. Because I love you. In life, and in death. Now come on, clean up and get in the car for church.
Maria got up and left Caleb alone.
Caleb sighed, feeling conflicted. He loved his mother, more than anything. But sometimes….it feels hard to tell how genuine her love really is.
Notes:
Hey guys! Soo, this might be confusing when it comes to the Gods and their time as humans. But I'm here to help!
Whenever the Gods are in their true forms, they will have their names displayed as their God names.
However, when interacting with humans and when they are in disguse, the narrations will state their God name, but their display name will be their human names, this way you can get an idea of which God is whic human (if that makes sense). And for my die-hard Epic: The Musical and Stories from Styx fans? Yes, all the Gods' human names will be named after their cannon voice actors and singers. (But for Gods like Dionysus, Artemis, Cronus, ect. I will be looking to fan songs for potential human names. But if you guys have any deities you want to see in future chapters plus a human name for their mortal form, don't be shy to comment below!).
Anyways, that's all for now. Hope you guys have a great day/night!
