Work Text:

I draw the bow with the last of my arrows, aiming at the boar. It’s a perfect catch, really. Just heavy enough to save for a few days. I wait for it to stop mulling around and start eating, which it proves hesitant to do. While I wait, I observe the scenery: wet, dewy pine trees, tall grass, beautiful flowers. The flowers specifically catch my eye. They’re all different colors, a pleasant rainbow with a predominant red tint. A gentle breeze blows across them, and they sway with the wind. I almost forget about the boar, observing the little flower field. The flowers are still dewy, like the trees, giving them a pretty glint in the sunlight. I look back at the boar, who has indeed stopped eating, and ready my bow for the shot. Right before I let the arrow loose, I glance back at the flowers. To my surprise, I notice someone lying in the grass—a zora! I make nothing of it, except for the fact that my shot might startle them awake. Hopeful that it won’t be the case, I aim my bow at the boar’s eye and take one last peek at the mysterious zora in the grass before I shoot. Before I can shoot, however, I notice something odd about the zora. Lots of jewelry, of course, but more so in an abnormal way. It looks like it could almost be royal. I squint at the zora to confirm my suspicions, and lo and behold, it’s not just any royal zora. It’s Prince Sidon!
I double-take and let the arrow slip in my disbelief. What was he doing here? I try and think, but I hear the boar cry out as the arrow hits it in the hind leg closest to me. It limps off into the woods, and as I look back at Sidon, he stirs. Just like a smaller animal, I suppose. I set my bow down gently and run over to him. By the time I reach the zone of the flowers, it seems he’s back in deep sleep. I wonder what could have permitted such a nap far away from Zora’s Domain, this week being busy with his festival and all. I can’t help but just stare at his glistening face. I brush aside a stray yellow flower that seemed to have wilted on his cheek. I observe his large eyes, sleek lips, and even the fine line where the snow white of his face stops and the bright red that taints the top of his head begins. I close my eyes with him and run my hand across his face, from the center of it to his soft cheek, to his chin. It partially breaks him from the slumber, and I instinctively yank my hand away. A mistake on my part, as it fully wakes him. I realize then that it will be incredibly odd to wake up to me standing directly over him, so I crawl back a few steps as he lifts his head, half awake. I try and turn around and make for my bow, but he seems to hear me shuffling through the grass. “Link? Knight, is that you?” He calls out.
I turn towards him, hesitant. My face is all he needs to register. I walk back towards him, as I suppose I can’t just get up, grab my bow, and run away. “What could you be doing here?” He asks. I signal with my hands, “I could ask the same.” “Oh, I’m just trying to grab a breath of fresh air. I figured since the waters are crowded, and the palace equally so, all I have is this far-off place. I feel I may get into some sort of trouble if I’m found out near the palace, but some may just assume I’m off on a few chores and focus on their festivities.” I nod. He continues, “I feel that you wouldn’t want me in trouble. That we trust each other mutually enough to simply know that we’re both here. I guess I like both of those things, trust, and the fact that you’re here.” I chuckle a little bit. I wind down and go over to sit next to him in the flowers.
We simply sit and observe for a while, the sounds of the wet fields, the sights of the slippery rocks, and the beautiful plantlife. It’s all beautiful, really. I think the same thing Sidon thinks in a moment, only he communicates it first. He scoots next to me and points towards a beehive on one of the spruces. “That gold reminds me of your hair,” He says, “perfectly natural and dazzling in its own way. It makes me smile, as with almost everything Sidon says. I find a small bunch of red and white flowers close together and hold them by the stems to show to Sidon. I beam as he laughs heartily. Suddenly, though, he grabs my hand with the flowers. I blush a little bit, even though I know it probably isn’t supposed to be a romantic gesture. Sidon is very physical, so I suppose it’s just another thing like that. “Could I take these home as a short memory of this quaint day?” He asks. I get a better idea. I awkwardly try and find a place in his immense jewelry where I can insert the flower stems. He giggles a little bit as I try and stuff them into every little crevice I can find. Finally, I get a perfect spot to set them, and they fit seamlessly. He touches them up with his hands a few times, and it then looks perfect. I finish the moment with a realization of all of the romantic feelings I’ve had just now. Every moment I tried to get the flowers into the right spot on his head jewelry, I subconsciously wanted to grab his chin and kiss him. I zone out thinking about it, and tap back into the moment. “Link,” Sidon starts, “It’s moments like that we have all the time, where I feel a strange way about you.” Suddenly, all of the doubts that I was the only one who liked him vanish. Am I dreaming? Does he really love me back? “Strange ways as in not as a prince…not as your friend, but something more.” He stammers, I hesitate, and sign back to him, “Do you love me?” His face droops, and he is left without a clue of what to do. Suddenly, I’m met with a kiss.
It’s almost a small one at first, but it ends for him to stare at me. With nothing but true love in his eyes, he closes them and leans in for another kiss. I lay down in the flowers, blooming just like we are, making the most of every passing second connected to his lips. I feel nothing but gratitude that a simple hunting trip turned into this. This wonderful kiss, right here, in the mountains of Lanayru, in the flowers, with my love, Prince Sidon. Nobody in sight, just us and nature. I continue to be in the most loving kiss for what feels like forever, when I finally pull away for another breath. I look at the sunset going over the hills, the glow over the wet rocks. “I love you.” I sign to Sidon. “I do too. I finally do.” He responds. This is definitely one of the people in my life that I can trust. I love him with all my heart, and I want nothing but to be with him for the rest of my life. “Let’s love each other, together.” He says, looking off into the sunset. I nod to him. I lean in for one more kiss, finding his lips again. This kiss might just last forever.
