“Should I be worried that some of the fans think I’m the leader of the Phantom Thieves?” Ren asked, looking up from his phone. He and Goro were curled up on the couch in the living room together, Ren’s arm slung around Goro’s shoulder. Ann was out of the country again, so the two of them had the apartment all to themselves (and Morgana, of course).
Goro hummed in thought, leaning into Ren without looking away from his laptop screen, where he was knee-deep in research for his next book. “Probably not. If you don’t acknowledge it, it’ll be dismissed as a conspiracy theory and eventually die out.”
“Oh right, you should know. Since you’re the expert on internet conspiracy theories and all.”
Goro, who had recently figured out he could weaponize acts of physical affection, simply shut his laptop and got up from his position on the couch.
“Wait, wait, I take it back!" Ren whined. “I’m sorry! I’ll never bring it up again! Come baaaaack.”
“You’re so dramatic. I’m only putting my laptop away,” Goro said, which was a blatant lie. He knew what he was doing. Ren could tell by that self-satisfied little smirk on his face.
Unfortunately Ren was extremely weak to Goro’s face, little smirk and all. The moment Goro came back to the couch, Ren pulled him in for a searing kiss.
“Ew,” Morgana said from his perch on the arm chair.
Goro broke away from the kiss. “Your cat’s blatant homophobia is beginning to wear on me,” he informed Ren seriously.
“I am not homophobic!” Morgana sputtered. “I just think that you two could stand to… to canoodle less in the common space!”
“Canoodling?” Goro said with a raised eyebrow. “It was just a kiss. It’s not as if we’re having intercourse in front of you.”
At Morgana’s scandalized glare, Ren intervened. “Sorry, Mona. We’ll try and keep it to a minimum in the living room,” Ren reassured him. Goro huffed. Ren took Goro’s hand gently, intertwining their fingers together. “Do you wanna watch a movie?”
“What movie?”
“I was thinking Featherman. I’ve never seen the one with the motorcycles.”
The corner of Goro’s mouth ticked up. “Well then, you’re in for a treat.”

As it turned out, Goro actually liked Featherman: Turbo Flight.
“What?!” Futaba screeched. “How? Why?”
“I know it’s controversial within the fandom, but I think the themes and worldbuilding are actually some of the most compelling in the franchise. Although I will admit that the motorcycles are gimmicky and the pacing is all over the place.”
“No way. You’re telling me that the rich people versus poor people plotline outweighed the awful production value?”
“I’m telling you that it had a surprisingly complex perspective on class conflict for a film aimed at a younger demographic, and those lessons are worth more than mere production value.”
“Guys,” Ren said. “The stream starts in ten minutes.”
“Oh, right,” Futaba said. She was here to help set up another PC in Ren’s room for Goro to use to play co-op Stardew Valley. “Honestly, I’m not sure I would have agreed to let you borrow my computer if I’d known your boyfriend was a Turbo-head,” which was an insane thing to say considering that Goro had literally killed her mom.
“Don’t you have like, ten computers?” Ren pointed out instead of stepping into that minefield.
“Five. But this is my only Mini-ITX!”
“Right.” Ren didn’t know what that meant.
“And we appreciate your sacrifice,” Goro added. Ren was pretty sure that he also didn’t know what that meant.
Futaba glowered, clearly realizing this. “Whatever. Akechi, come test the mic.”
“I’ll take you to the Feather Swan pop-up event in Shibuya next week,” Ren promised as she finished up.
“Oh, you better.”

Idk why but I thought Akechi would be the spreadsheet gamer and Joker would be the chaos gremlin... Nothing could have prepared me for Akechi staying in the mines until 1am every night and getting home barely in time to collapse in the house

Akechi: “All of you are acting like Ren is some sort of abandoned housewife who’s being forced to work the farm without me. But who asked me to get the iridium ore, hm? He did! For his sprinklers! He’s the one obsessed with maximizing our profits, not me. I just don’t see why I should leave the mines sooner when I know exactly how long it takes to get back in time.”
Joker: “You’ve passed out before getting home like five times.”
Akechi: “Four.”]

“Remind me again when Takamaki will be back?” Goro asked as he set the table for dinner.
“Next Tuesday,” Ren said. “Why do you ask?”
“Just wondering.”
Ren doubted that, but he turned his attention back to putting the finishing touches on their dinner while he gathered his thoughts. “You know… our lease is up in a couple months. And Ann is thinking of moving out.” She was thinking of relocating back to Japan on a more permanent basis to start working on her own fashion brand, which involved having her own space.
Goro stiffened. Ren watched out of the corner of his eye as Goro leaned against the kitchen counter with faux-casualness. His next words came out measured and deliberate. “If you’re suggesting that you move in with me, I’m not sure I’m ready to share a bedroom with Morgana.”
“Actually,” Ren said as he plated the food, “I was thinking you could move in with me. Take Ann’s bedroom.” Functionally speaking, they would probably still end up sleeping in the same bed every night. But having their own rooms to retreat to would make everything easier, especially when they both had work to do. Or when they inevitably fought. Or when Goro and Morgana fought.
Goro seemed to relax minutely as he came to the same conclusion that Ren had. “I see. That way we could each have our own space.” Goro went quiet for a moment, considering. “I’ll think about it.”
“That’s all I’m asking,” Ren smiled. “Come on, the food’s ready.”
They ate quietly for a few minutes, Ren making mental notes on how to adjust the recipe for next time and Goro scrolling on his phone. Goro paused, frowning at something on his screen.
He looked up at Ren. “Do you think I should start a podcast?” Goro asked seriously.
Ren gently put his hand over the hand Goro was holding his phone with. Then he plucked the phone out of Goro’s hand and set it face down on the table.
“If you start a podcast,” Ren said gently, “I will break up with you. Immediately.”
Goro laughed.
