Work Text:
"Honey, I'm home!"
The front door slammed behind Sodapop. He kicked off his shoes, took off his DX shirt and threw it at the couch, missing. He always missed but nobody ever seemed to mind. Although that was probably the reason he was always losing his uniform.
He walked straight to the kitchen, poured a glass of chocolate milk, and had half of it downed by the time he sat down on the couch next to his brother.
Ponyboy was drawing in his notebook, and didn't bother to look up at his brother. After all, Soda did this exact same thing every day when he came home from work.
"Hey, Pone." Soda sat his glass of chocolate milk down on the coffee table.
"Hey. How was work?"
"Alright. We were real busy though. I'm exhausted." He yawned. "How was school?"
"Fine." Pony answered. "Finally got a night with no homework."
Soda laughed. "What ya drawing?"
"The night sky."
Soda looked over his shoulder at the drawing. He was currently working on a full moon. He loved watching Pony draw, his brother was so gifted, and he was so proud of him.
About ten minutes later Ponyboy finished his drawing and shut his notebook. He looked up to find Soda asleep next to him and smiled softly.
He looked out the window and saw the sun setting. The sky was painted with pinks and purples and oranges and yellows. It was beautiful...golden. And Pony wanted to draw it.
Pony opened his notebook, only to find that he'd used all of the paper. He sighed and shut it, looking over at his brother. His eyes darted from the sunset to the marker in his hand, to Sodapop's arm. A slightly mischievous smirk slowly graced him lips.

"Hey, supper's 'bout ready, can one of ya'll come set the table?"
Ponyboy glanced up at Darry's voice, putting the cap back on his marker. "Coming!"
"Where's Soda at?" Darry asked when his brother walked into the kitchen.
"Fell asleep on the couch." Pony answered, grabbing plates from the cabinet.
"I'll get him in a minute." Darry said, plating some French fries.
"What'd ya make?" Pony asked as he began setting the table.
"Hot dogs." Darry answered, placing a platter on the table.
Five minutes later the table was set and filled with food.
Darry walked to the living room to wake Soda, as Pony grabbed the gallon of chocolate milk and three glasses. He gently shook his brother. "Soda. Hey, Sodapop wake up."
Soda groaned, but his eyes fluttered open. "Dar?"
"Hey kiddo, supper's ready." He shot his brother a smile.
"Good." Soda said, sitting up. "I'm starving."
"Well, then you better get your butt in here, 'fore it gets cold."
"I'm comin, I'm comin.'" Sodapop laughed.
He stood up and stretched, suddenly noticing Darry was staring at him.
"What?" Soda questioned.
Darry blinked and shook his head. "Nothing. Nothing. Come on, let's go eat."
They joined Ponyboy at the table, who was currently making himself a plate.
Darry and Pony exchanged a look, and Pony was fighting to hide a smirk. Darry sighed but didn't say anything.
"Would you pass the ketchup, Dar? Darry?"
"Huh?" Darry blinked and looked at his brother. "Oh, yeah sorry."
Soda was just about to take a third bite of his hot dog but instead shut his mouth and threw it back on the plate. "Alright, what gives?" He looked at Darry. "You've been staring at me since before we came in here, Dar. Why?"
Darry glanced over at Ponyboy, who was contentedly eating his French fries. "Well, Soda it's just um..."
"Spit it out Darry!" Soda said, growing impatient.
Darry put a hand on the back of his neck. "Your um- your arm."
Confusion was suddenly written all over Sodapop's face. "My arm?" He questioned, looking down. His eyes widened at what he saw. "Ponyboy Curtis!" He slapped a hand on the table.
His left forearm was covered in marker, Pony must have drawn on him while he was sleeping.
"What?" Ponyboy shrugged, an innocent smile gracing his lips. "I ran out of paper." He said casually.
Darry snickered and Soda gave him a look. "Ya ran out of paper, so you decided to draw on my arm while I was sleeping?"
"Yeah." Ponyboy said casually.
Now Darry just couldn't hold back a full-on laugh.
Soda tried to keep a straight face, but he was failing, especially now that Pony was laughing. He shook his head as a laugh escaped his lips.
Once the laughter died down a bit, Soda looked back down at his arm. "What is it anyway?" He asked, smiling at his brother.
"It's horses galloping into the sunset." Ponyboy answered. "I saw the sunset outside and wanted to draw it. I added in the horses though."
Soda tilted his head, trying to see the drawing better, since it was upside down from his view. "Well, it looks good." He said, gazing back up at his brother. "But do it again and I'll skin you." He ruffled his brother's hair.
"Hey!" Ponyboy said, trying to stifle his laugh.
"Got it kiddo?" Soda said, eating a French fry and smiling at his brother.
"Yeah, yeah." Ponyboy laughed. "I got it."
