Coach says something about talking to Darry's parents, but all Darry can focus on is how close Paul is sitting to him, the way he gently grabs Darry's chin to make sure his eyes are alright, and how he takes Darry's hand and holds it up in victory when he finally stands back up.

July, 1965Darry slams his hand down on the dashboard, tears running down his face. He rakes a hand through his hair before pressing his head against the steering wheel. He wants to scream, to go back to Paul and deck him, to find the part of him that still wants to kiss Paul and bury it.
But he can’t. He can’t do any of it.
He sits in the parking lot until the sun sets before wiping his face and driving home.

Dallas meets a "nice girl" who he calls a Soc but is more upper/middle class. Slow burn starting with friendship before dating and gradually falling in love, with a lot of intimacy/attachment issues coming up. Trauma/abuse is mentioned including sexual assault. There will be discussions of consensual sexual activities as well, but any details about specific activities are intended to illustrate aspects of their overall relationship and growth. That said, this is my first time writing more than just quick "fade-to-black" and I would very much appreciate feedback and suggestions!
Fits in the universe of "Saving Dallas" but basically what you need to know from that fic is: 1) Dallas lives, diverges from canon right after Johnny's death. 2) If Dally is OOC it is because we are picking up after he's had several months of the gang supporting each other through their Johnny-grief 3) If reading both,

Beneath it, I drew twelve bullet points, each one waiting for a plan. On each day, I’d do something worth remembering. Something I could hold in my hands before I let go. I’d write down what I did as time went on.
Maybe it was selfish. Maybe it wasn’t. I couldn’t decide. But I liked the idea of leaving something behind. I’d leave memories that weren’t sudden and sharp, but slow and soft, something they could hold onto without wondering if they’d missed their chance.
After all, maybe after 12 days I’d change my mind.

Mostly Dally-centric and focused on his dealing with emotional growth, grief, and trauma. Plan is for a happy ending but with a lot of angst along the way. Content warning for suicide attempts, history of abuse including sexual trauma.
Comments much appreciated, including constructive criticism.
NOTE: My other Dally-centric fic, "Dallas Finds Love (Very Slowly)", runs parallel to this story, starting at chapter 1 right after this fic's chapter 32. If you're interested in Dallas dealing with romance and intimacy, they are the same storyline but focused on different aspects of his growth. They can be read together or independently.
