Sometimes, Ratthi wonders how they've gotten lucky enough to hang onto Secunit despite its feral cat instincts. Other times, it makes perfect sense…
He’d missed half the argument by arriving five minutes late for their planned outing, but Pin Lee and Gurathin have been vigorously swearing at each other for the whole of that time. He hasn’t caught enough context clues yet to guess what the original point of contention was, but the result is entertaining enough that he isn’t sure he cares. Gurathin peppers his expletives with words from his home system that Ratthi can’t identify, but what Pin Lee may lack in intergalactic vocabulary, she makes up for in enthusiasm. It’s a bit like watching an athletic match, with volleys of scalding language traded back and forth like missiles.
Secunit sits on the couch along the wall, roughly halfway between the combatants. A small drone swivels back and forth overhead, watching intently. Secunit’s face is just shy of outright amused, and Ratthi suspects that if it could eat, there would be a bowl of popcorn in its lap. If there had been any venom in the bickering, it would have a very different look on its face, but it has relaxed into their company enough to know that this is a normal part of their communication. It has relaxed enough to enjoy the show. And for Ratthi, that is the most endearing part of the whole tableau.
