Chapter Text
Galinda knew that someday she would hear back from the places she sent an application to. But she didn’t expect to get this job. Not this soon anyway. When the notification popped on her phone she let out a little squeak from excitement and started reading the email.
Dear Galinda,
We liked your video and we would love to have a chat as soon as possible.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Emerald Records.
Below they attached all the information that she would need. This was the most famous enterprise in the music industry. She couldn't stop her excitement, even if the most conscious part of her tried to calm her expectations down. This was her chance.
Galinda was glad they used a not-so-formal language in the email, she felt less dislocated and a little more relaxed to go to this meeting. And she needed to relax, the interview was just a few hours later of that same day.
She did not waste time and started to get dressed. In a world of pink, she could not find something green to use for this particular event. The Emerald Records were known to be an all green building and she knew she would cause a good impression if she wore the enterprise’s colors, or so she thought. If they had given her more time she would go shopping, thank you very much.
But she didn’t have time or something green to wear. Well, she had some blue among all those pink dresses and skirts, blue was close to green, wasn’t it? Closer than pink anyways. Glinda decided against everything that made sense and chose her favorite fit, she knew a pretty face, beautiful voice and a good girl posture would make do.
When she got to the place, she had fifteen minutes yet to see herself in a mirror and make sure everything was perfect. At the greeting hall, she saw a front desk in a dark shade of green (obviously), and a girl in green uniform (of course). She approached and started:
“Hello, I’m Galinda Upland, I have a meeting with... someone. The message just said Emerald Records.”
The girl looked Glinda from tip to toe, then looked to the screen right in front of her. Even the air smelled green! Galinda thought.
“They didn’t notify me of any meetings today”
“But you sent me an email, it’s here, look” Galinda took her phone out of her pink bag and showed the email she got that same day earlier. The receptionist bent over to take a suspicious look at Galinda’s phone.
“Weird. He always copies these kind of emails to me. He must’ve forgotten.” She shrugged and got back to her computer. He? She couldn’t be talking about who Galinda thought she was.
“And… what do I do now?”
Even with the crippling anxiety she felt, the last thing Galinda wanted was to be told to get back another day. Or to go home and not come back at all.
“I sent him a text and he confirmed, Elphaba is coming to take you to his office.”
Galinda didn’t wait long till this Elphaba girl appeared from the lift door. She wore everything green, green gloves, green glasses and even green highlighter! Galinda had a feeling that it was something more than just the enterprise politics. Green served her well.
“Hello, I’m Elphaba and I came to your rescue”
The green girl said with a smile that she could read as ‘I’m here against my will and this is not my job’. But she didn’t let that intimidate her, she knew better. Galinda was always a people person, like a magnet.
“Hello, I’m Galinda and I’m here to be rescued” The pink girl bowed a little trying to be funny, but also cute. Elphaba smiled a little more sincerely.
Galinda got up on the elevator next to Elphaba. While the green girl was clicking the buttons to get them to the 24th floor, the pink girl was looking in the mirror one more time, just to make sure she was at her best. She was, no doubt. Elphaba noticed and looked at the mirror too. The pink girl contemplated their reflections for a bit.
“Pink goes good with green”
“Goes well” Elphaba gave half a smile.
“So it does”
“So, what are you here for?”
“I don't know to be honest, I sent a silly video to your email and got a reply. What do you do here?”
“I’m kinda of a nepo baby, so to speak.” Galinda gave a smile to show she was polite, but she didn’t understand what the hell Elphaba was talking about. “I’m the daughter of the owner, the one you’re about to meet”
The one she was about to meet? It couldn’t be.
As the green girl spoke those words the lift door opened to a big office. It was huge and had everything adorned with all shades of green and gold. On the walls, several gold records and newspapers headlines that made sure she was entering the most successful recording enterprise. She felt that her clothes were like a screaming ball of pink fire. What was a pink dot in a world of green? Well, that’s Galinda in The Wizard's, aka Oscar Diggs, office. They both walked to the center of the room, close ahead there was a big table all designed in gold and real emeralds. At the desk, a chair turned to the window, but it was clear that someone was sitting on it. Someone powerful. Elphaba continued.
“I’m here to put this train on its rails, right father?”
The chair turned to reveal a good looking man, grey well styled hair, all dressed in very expensive clothes (Galinda knew all about that). He gave a charming smile to the girls.
“Thank you, Elphaba, for bringing our new employee here.” he said looking at his daughter, who gave him her tongue in reply. Galinda felt her heart skip a beat hearing the words ‘new employee’, she went there with doubts about this hiring. But the owner was saying it, so it was more real than it could get, right?
“You must be Galinda” he then looked at the girl in pink with more intent. Flashing her the biggest of smiles, he introduced himself. “I”m Oscar Diggs, very pleased to meet you.”
