Summary
Elphaba handed Galinda Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. A personal favorite of hers. It was a tale of many things, but at the heart of it was loneliness and longing. Elphaba wasn’t exactly sure why, but she felt as if this woman might need a story like that right now.
“Um… right. Thanks” Galinda said, as softly as she’s spoken today, and it was almost adorable.
Elphaba had to leave, she was so tired and delirious that she was thinking ridiculous thoughts.
Or; Elphaba works at a bookstore, Galinda becomes a repeat customer, gay shit ensues.

She is evil, responsible for the mutilation of these poor innocent monkeys! Her green skin is but an outward manifestorium of her twisted nature.” Oz, Elphaba Thropp what have you done? How could you do something so – inhumane?
Elphaba felt herself take a few steps back, before she heard another sound;
“Look at her, she's ‘Wicked’!” a chorus of men shouted, and Elphaba couldn't help but wonder if they were shouting at her.
“Kill her, she's ‘Wicked’!”
Elphaba felt herself blacking out once again.
She looked around, everyone in Shiz staring at her, she felt Galinda’s warm hand holding hers, she felt Morrible's watchful gaze.

At least, as Glinda kept reminding her, the visiting Vinkun King was a bright spot in the growing gloom.

In some ways Elphaba looked just the same as she ever had. Her skin was still a vibrant green, her nails still glinting in the lights of the apartment as she flexed her fingers by her side; an old nervous habit Galinda had learned early in their friendship. She still stood tall, unashamed and strong, taking up the space in a way that her presence would never be ignored or denied. Her eyes were still the combination of deep green and bright hazel that had always found Galinda slightly hypnotised, and she still wore the cape Galinda had donned her with the day they had said their goodbyes.
But the differences were stark and heartbreaking in a way that Galinda should have expected but wished weren’t there all the same.

They stand together in the front of his bathroom mirror one morning.
Fiyero stares at their reflections, stunned. His face is pale, with deep circles under his eyes. Day old stubble makes him look angrier, more shadowed. He looks like a ghost, haggard and offputting.
Glinda doesn't look much better. Her hair hangs loosely around her shoulder, lank and thinning. Fiyero knows that her stylist regularly uses extensions to maintain the look of her glossy, golden hair.
She’s also visibly lost weight, her cheekbones far more prominent than they used to be.
He wonders if he should ask if she’s eating enough.
He decides against it.
It’s not like he’s the picture of health either.
