This is the "first kiss" moment that I referenced in "Bug Off, We're Getting Married." The moment that haunts them. The moment they have to eventually work through to get to the wedding. But that's not this fic. This fic is pure, uncut angst with no resolution. This is the "it gets worse before it gets better" part. This is the emotional equivalent of stepping on a Lego in the dark.
