Serena couldn’t quite believe her eyes. Bernie her one time lover wasn’t dead, blown to pieces. No, she was whole, perfectly whole and lying in a hospital bed.
‘Okay’ she thought to herself, she wasn’t looking exactly perfect. There was a scar across her left cheekbone and another in her hairline that looked a lot more recent, and probably there were more that she couldn’t see, hidden for now beneath the hospital gown and the sheet covering her. And god knows how many mental scars there would be when and if, (Serena choked back a sob) she ever woke up.
