Work Text:

If Parrot said these visits to Paragon were rare, he'd be lying.

He periodically visited the prison, not because he missed being trapped, because God, no.

He missed Wifies.

The flight to the prison was quiet. Parrots mind was quiet. His wings hurt to use, but had healed tremendously from when Wifies had clipped them so he couldn't escape him.

When Parrot landed on the obsidian walls, it was dark and the jungle surrounding him was oddly silent. He jumped down the walls and glided down, landing gently on the grass. The avian glanced around before his eyes landed on his house, right next to Wifies's. He padded over, his feet crunching under the grass, dry and brittle under his boots.

Parrot stood in front of Wifies's house, his hand hovering over the door handle. He took a deep breath before opening the door and peeking inside. He expected to see Wifies there, smiling, waving as his tail wagged. Just like old times. He missed that Wifies. The nice, fun to be around Wifies.

Parrot shook his head, his eyes finally focusing to see no one there. There was never anyone there. He really wonder why he still hopes to see someone there, anyone, just to disappoint himself. He stepped deeper into the house, not bothering to shut the door behind him. He walked over to glance at the furniture that was collecting dust.

Parrot crouched down and ran his finger over the crafting table, glancing at the gray that contrasted his pale skin. He shook his hand and stood back up to his full height. He exited the house, shutting the door gently behind him, and focused his attention to the building in the center of the prison. He hadn't been in there since Wifies's death happened. Hadn't built enough courage to go back in.

Parrot saw the death message, he knew Wifies was dead, but a small part of him, deep inside, thinks hes still alive, that its all a hoax like last time, but its not. He wants it to be, but it isn't. That just isn't the case. He looked down at the grass, the cherry blossom petals that used to be a beautiful pastel pink now a faded memory of what used to be.

Parrot took a deep breath and walked towards the circle building, up the obsidian stairs. He remembers these stairs, walking down them, being relieved after knowing his best friend was dead, or rather ex best friend. As he walked into the building, the beige interior hit him like a He remembers these stairs, walking down them, being relieved after knowing his best friend was dead, or rather ex best friend.

As Parrot walked into the building, the beige interior hit him like a wave of nostalgia, but also sorrow? The actions that were preformed in this room clung to the walls like Sharpie. The birch stairs creaked under the avians feet. The most part of the stairs connecting the floor to the exit were gone, so he had to glide the rest of the way. The place was wrecked, and you could definitely tell someone died here, even if their body blew up.

The stone covered most of the floor, but some of the ivory flooring was still there. Parrot stared at the ground. Sometimes, he felt bad for what he did to Wifies. Sometimes he wonders: "What would've happened if I had stayed here with him?" But he knows what he did was for the better. If he had stayed here, he would've died. Thats to answer his question.

Parrot walked over and sat where Wifies's pressure plate would've been, and sat down. His feet could dangle inside the crater if he wanted to dangle them, but he preferred to sit with his legs crossed. He sat there for a moment, looking off into the distance, staring blankly at the wall that was now opened because it was blown up. He could see the exit from here. It was that easy to leave.

Wifies was smart, a lot smarter than Parrot. He wonders why he didn't do anything to protect himself, or survive daily. Maybe he wanted to die. Tears pricked at Parrots eyes just thinking about the potential that Wifies could've been suicidal.

Parrot wiped his eyes.

That was stupid.

If Wifies wanted to die, he wouldn't have taken Parrot with him. Loved him too much for that.

Maybe he knew Parrot was going to escape. He had a record of escaping supposed "impenetrable" prisons anyways.

Parrot blinked away the rest of the tears and—

Parrot can still see the way Wifies looked when he revealed he was the director when he closes his eyes.

He looked a little relieved, but it had a cold edge. Much colder than Wifies had ever looked, even when he was at his worse. He never looked at Parrot with anything but warmth until then.

Parrot took a deep breath.

No thinking about that.

No more thinking about how he looked at Parrot all those months ago.

No more thinking about the time they spent together before it all went to shit.

No more thinking about how his tail always wagged when he saw Parrot, like he made Wifies the happiest man alive.

Not now.

Not in here.

Parrot stood up abruptly. He had to get out of here before he starts thinking about more stupid things, like Wifies was actually doing a good job protecting him.

Pfft.

Bullshit.

To Parrot, atleast.

for now, he just wants to go back to the Northern Council, keep running for king, doing things Parrot would do any other day, and forget he was even here.

Returning to the council felt like a breath of fresh air, even though Parrot had been breathing fresh air all day.

The prison was far out, so Parrot was tired from the flight.

Climbing up to his room in the council was tiring enough, so when he crashed on his bed it felt like heaven.

Parrot was about to close his eyes, take a well deserved nap, then he heard another person.

He knew who it was.

"Theo?"

Parrot spoke out, sitting up from his face plant on his bed.

"Yo, where have you been? You were gone for like, three hours."

"Just stretching my wings."
