star trail - lightshow version

Summary:

Sing more! Ring out more! In this moment, forget everything and... let's enjoy this dreamlike time together!
So that that emotion can turn into the power to move forward... I'll put my all into this one note, this moment...!

After weeks of rehearsal, Leo/need performs their opening act for Free Cluster at the Star Tokyo Arena.

Or: star trail is such a peak song, it's a shame there's no chart for it in the game...

(This fic contains highly interactive elements that are best experienced on a laptop or landscape-screen device. Additionally, certain on-screen effects may cause eye strain or seizures, especially if you have epilepsy. Please take caution!)

Notes:

Ignore how I'm one month late to Find the Dream View

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

⚠️ Woah there! ⚠️
This work uses a custom workskin, and will NOT work properly without it.
If you're reading this, you most likely have creator workskins disabled.
Please click the button towards the top of this fic labelled "Show Creator's Style" (in the same place you'd find the chapter navigation buttons) to hide this message.

As you can probably tell by this popup, this isn't your ordinary AO3 fanfic. As such, certain mediums
(Samsung Smart Fridge, Amazon Kindle, Print Delivered by Carrier Pigeon, etc.) may be unsuitable for reading.

Generally, this work is best read on a laptop. Phones might work, but I didn't write/code this fic with
them in mind, so things might behave unexpectedly.

This fic contains spoilers for Chapter 7 of Find the Dream View. If you haven't read the story
in-game yet, I'd highly recommend doing so, especially if you're a Leo/need fan!

Finally, heed the epilepsy warning! I don't think there are any excessive visual effects, but just to be safe.

With all that boring talk out of the way, I hope you enjoy! This truly was our dream view <3

Shiho

(There's lots of people in the audience, from the arena all the way to the 3rd floor... It's overwhelming.)

Shiho

Audience

Oh, some people have come out.

Audience

Ah, they're the band for the opening act right? I don't know them though.

Shiho

(...but also the distance from their hearts. It's like there's an invisible wall in the gap in front of the stage.)

Ok. Self-promo aside, I have a lot of thoughts about this fic. First of all, the actual event. It's so peak. Shiho finally reaching her dream of playing professionally in front of an audience, not by herself but with the rest of Leo/need by her side, is such an impactful moment in Leo/need's story arc. Also, they animated the cards??? d1 hype moments and aura, FTDV is my second favorite Shiho focus event ever (Resonating With You still wins though, sorry). Unfortunately, I now have to kill Shiho for having ungodly high event tier cutoffs 🥀 i swear if her t100 world link 2 cutoff goes over estimates im gonna crash out

Regarding the elephant in the fic: Did you know this fic was supposed to be a proof of concept? Really funny I know. I do plan on making a full longfic with some rhythm game elements* depending on how this is received, so any support would be greatly appreciated :) A lot of the kudos and comments on my prototype fic were a big reason in convincing me to revisit this idea! CSS is a really fun tool to play around with once you actually realize how much it can do besides just coloring text. Of course, CSS was also most definitely not intended to make a whole rhythm game engine, but the fact that it's possible is kind of beautiful to me.

*Fun fact! If you hit every single note, you'll get a tiny little pink "Full Combo" text indicator next to your score. Pretty cool, but it also means I have the power to limit certain parts of a fic behind score clear requirements if I so desire. I'm sure you can trust me to use this power responsibly :)

Some neat technical statistics: ignoring asset files, this fic uses about 58,000 characters of HTML and 91,340 characters of CSS. In reality, the actual count is about 6,000 and 10,000 characters of HTML and CSS respectively, and the rest is generated from a charting engine export and a ~166 line python charting file. If I really wanted to, I could pull any song chart from PJSK and turn it into a playable chart in about 3 clicks, but to be honest the novelty of a rhythm game engine in AO3 wears off pretty quickly if you only use it to generate low-effort song recreations (which is also why I'm probably not going to open-source my charting engine anytime soon.) If you're interested in how some of the tech works behind the scene, however, you can probably figure out most of my tricks through Inspect Element --- rendered HTML & CSS code is always open-source, after all ;)

what else do i put here uhhh polyneed real polyneed forever
