Jealousy, Jealousy!

Summary:

Vergil hates it when you laugh.

Notes:

Hallo! Please forgive any inaccuracies. I have never played the game and only watched the show but I loooove Vergil like I cannot explain it. I fear he has gripped my heart. LOVE men with inferiority complexes haha (shoutout Dante too tho). And I know how the show ended but I rebuke that for the sake of this fic, thank youuuu!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

You'd laughed at one of Dante's stupid jokes last week.

That was it. Your loud, body-shaking laugh was all it took for Vergil's already thin patience with you to fray and snap into a thousand tiny bits of envy and resentment.

Your painful ignorance to his feelings had only made things worse. Ever since you'd joined the ragtag efforts to eradicate the straggling manufactured Uroboros hellspawn that'd remained on Earth after Arius' demise, you'd been nothing but a thorn in Vergil's side.

He was too aware of you. Hypervigilant whenever you were near, whenever you did anything really. He would catch himself watching while you practiced your fighting skills under Lady's somewhat decent tutelage, listening while you belted songs at random because "the room was too quiet", and worst of all, he'd unconsciously chased after your scent two weeks ago and nearly broke his own neck to rid himself of the urge to follow your trail.

A few days ago, you'd tried to join Vergil on a quick scouting mission.

"Dante and Lady are tracking north so I'd thought I'd join you and head south," you'd said. "What do you say? Wanna be a pair?" You'd grinned at him. Cheeks full with mirth. Head tilted to one side. Hands held neatly behind your back as you leaned toward him.

Eagerness stirred in him then. A craving for something. Some kind of need.

Stupid.

"Unlike my impudent little brother, I've no need for a pet," Vergil had said, nearly spitting the words. "Disappear and do whatever it is you fickle sapiens do."

He'd watched you swallow your pride then. Vergil had half-expected anger. A middle finger, an insult, scorn.

But you'd done no such thing.

"Okay," had been your gentle reply. You'd offered him a soft smile. "You know how to reach me if you need me." You'd tapped the small device tucked into your right ear and turned on your heels. Leaving him alone. Just as he'd asked.

Vergil thought he might've hated you.

Then today, it happened again.

Vergil hadn't been listening to his brother's ridiculous ramblings. He'd been checked out until he heard you. Your laugh. Loud and uncontained. His body sought out the sight of you before his mind could stop it.

There you were, eyes squeezed shut as you gasped for air while Dante pulled an ugly face after whatever lame joke he'd coughed up. Lady, who was standing beside you with an equally amused expression, turned to point at Vergil and stifled another laugh.

Oh.

Shame trickled over Vergil's shoulders like acid rain.

"What?" he gritted through clenched teeth.

"Look, look, he's doing it now," Lady cackled.

You looked at him and laughed. Laughed. At him. You were laughing at him. Vergil clenched his fists until the skin over his knuckles paled.

"See? Constipation face, just like I told ya," Dante sighed dramatically. "My brother has permanent stuck-shit face."

"Is it terminal?" Lady asked.

"Sadly, yes," Dante wiped an imaginary tear and clutched his shirt directly over his heart. "It can't be helped."

"No!" You hurried over to Vergil's side, face warm with joy. "There has to be something we can do. Vergil, smile. Please." You stared up at him hopefully as you took his hands in yours. "Please! You have to fight."

"It's no use," Dante moaned. "He's lost to us."

"We could try an enema," Lady suggested. "That'll get the stick out of his ass for sure."

Your cheeks puffed out slightly as you held back another childish chortle.

Vergil snatched his hands out of your hold. "I'm not surprised you'd laugh at this, given your threshold for humor is so embarassingly low," he sneered.

"Or I'm just really fucking funny," Dante cut in with a shrug.

Vergil didn't so much as glance his twin's way. He stayed focused on you. On the upward twitch of your mouth as you watched Dante prance around like the obnoxious, greasy fool he was.

What did he have that Vergil didn't? Hadn't he worked hard enough already to make up the innate distance between them? Why did he get to make you laugh like that?

"You alright?" You asked suddenly, stepping closer. Your eyes were on Vergil now, and you were so close. Close enough to re-ignite that odd hunger.

Vergil steeled himself against it as best he could.

"I can't be so long as I'm around all of you," he said.

He secluded himself for the rest of the night.

You came to him an hour after midnight. Found him in his excuse of a bedroom, curled in a spot farthest from the door with his back facing the entrance.

"Go away, human."

Of course, you took that as your sign to enter and shut the door behind you with a quiet click.

Vergil was on the floor, his pristine bed left untouched. He'd bathed and done all the important duties his sapien form required, but had not been able to sleep.

The sounds of your laughter had kept him awake. The joy he could not reach. Could not give to you or share with you. Another reminder of his inadequacies. Maybe if their mother had chosen him instead of Dante, he'd be funny too. Vergil rolled over to lay flat on the floor. Face down.

"Go!" He shouted. With you there, the thoughts he was doing his best to fight off only seemed to worsen. He wasn't a blubbering child anymore, he was above this. It was…embarrassing. "Please," came out as a barely audible whisper.

"I wanted to check on you," you started. "Because of, um, earlier."

Vergil said nothing.

You went to him and sat beside his prone form. Poking his shoulder lightly, you sighed, "Vergil."

Still, only silence.

But you were nothing if not patient.

After a solid ten minutes of quiet, he finally spoke. "I hate it when you laugh," Vergil mumbled against the floor.

This stunned you. You knew Vergil wasn't very fond of you. A truth you'd reluctantly forced yourself to swallow by the spoonful every day despite how your heart swelled with care and affection for him. His oddities never bothered you.

If anything, you found them endearing. His constant pouting was cute. His gruffness, charming. His meticulous nature, reassuring. You tried very hard to show him your feelings through kindness. You thought it was working. Thought that maybe, with time, he would soften toward you in return and even share your feelings.

You never expected him to actually hate you. Certainly not this much.

"Oh," you said. A cold feeling curled into your chest. "I see."

Vergil raised his head slightly to look at you. Usually, you sought out his face. This time you looked away before his eyes could reach yours.

"Dante makes you laugh," Vergil whispered. "He's funny. He's…fun. I've never made you laugh."

Every ounce of chill abandoned your chest at once. You whipped your head toward him.

Now you saw the truth.

Vergil's eyes were wide. Open and vulnerable. The tips of his ears were faintly pink. His hair was in disarray from rolling around on the floor. And that pout.

So kissable.

A smile fought its way onto your face. Before you knew it was happening, you were laid out beside Vergil, laughing stupidly at everything and nothing at all.

He sat up, clearly bewildered and a little upset at the assumption that you were laughing at him, again.

"What is it now?"

Vergil was propped up on all fours now, halfway over you. His arms caged you in on either side. You raised your hands to cup his face. Running your thumbs beneath Vergil's eyes, you sighed with relief.

"So, you do like me," you said.

He sputtered. "I do not." Vergil did his very best to look disgusted. "You're a weak thing and you represent the worst part of me," he said softly. "I can't stand you."

Your arms bent to bring him closer. Barely a breath away.

"I like you, too." You leaned up slightly to place a kiss at one corner of his mouth. "Very much." And the other. Over and over. Until Vergil was chasing after your mouth sluggishly.

"You, what?" he asked.

And your lips answered. Slowly, sweetly, you poured tenderness into him with every movement. Licking the seam of his lips until he opened for you. Meeting his hesitation with steady passion. Kissing him dumb until your weak need for oxygen forced you to pull back.

Vergil chased again. More alert. More alive. Hungry for your mouth.

"Hmph," your surprise suffocated beneath him.

His hands sought yours one at a time, pinning your arms against the floor as he pressed the full weight of himself onto you. The contours of his muscled front molding against your body.

You gasped for air when he finally released your mouth, only to lose your breath again as he attacked your neck with a line of sucking bruises.

It hurt. If you didn't know any better, you'd think Vergil was punishing you for something.

"Ah." His hips pushed heavily against yours. Pinning you between the floor and a hard place.

He murmured your name like he was trying not to forget it. Kissing and licking and biting every inch of skin within reach. Rolling against you, creating friction through both of your sleep clothes.

"Vergil," you groaned.

Suddenly, he went still. Vergil's face hovered above yours. Pupils blown wide. Unblinking. He'd stopped breathing.

"Vergil?"

And his mouth was on yours again with a feverish urgency. Drool smeared against both your faces as you connected messily. Teeth clacking every so often from the lack of finesse on both your parts.

"Mm, Vergil."

"Yes, yes, yes," he moaned.

"Bed," you said.

You both made quick work of every unnecessary piece of clothing in the short journey between the floor to the bed. Vergil picked you up and knelt on the mattress to bring you both to its center. You wrapped your arms around his neck and your legs around his hips, refusing to be put down as you sucked his tongue into your mouth.

Vergil panted. He placed a large hand on your lower back to guide you into his rhythm as he grinded his cock against your wetness, rutting the blunt head of it over your clit until you whined for more.

You released your grip on him and fell gently onto the mattress. Vergil followed you down, pressing against you once more as he dragged a slick path down your neck to your navel and lower. He laid flat between your legs as he spread you open with his thumbs on either side of your weeping hole.

"Fuck," he sounded close to tears. "Fuck. Thank you."

You didn't have a second to ask what for before his mouth sealed around your clit. You arched at the suction. Pulled toward the ceiling as if an invisible string was wrapped around your middle.

Your mouth opened silently as your eyes fluttered shut. Vergil sucked your clit slowly, creating a pulse that took over every thought in your mind. The tip of his tongue flicked against it. The filthy sounds of his attention filled your ears.

Vergil slipped his index finger inside you. Then his middle. He curled the digits upward and dragged them toward himself lazily.

A flurry of sensation mounted inside you. You felt it in your chest, your stomach, your clit, all the way down to your toes. It built and built into a frenzy of energy until it peaked and popped into a fizzling shower of pleasure.

Your clit jumped as you twitched and flinched from the aftershocks of pleasure. You couldn't help but squeeze Vergil's head and hands between your thighs as your body clenched around him. He gave you a few more sucks, but pulled away and offered one final lick with the flat of his tongue when you shoved his head away to stop the overwhelming feeling.

Vergil was, by all accounts, possessed.

You stared at him from under heavy lids, still catching your breath. He sat on his heels between your legs, pumping his cock roughly with the hand he'd had inside you and licking his lips while he stared at you. Watched you.

You could've sworn you saw a flash of blue spark across his cum-drunk face.

Vergil hunched over you. He lined himself up against you and started to push inside without wasting another second.

"Oh," you gasped loudly, legs drifting upward of their own accord to accommodate the size of him. Short, fast breaths punched out of you as he seated himself fully within you.

Vergil knocked his forehead against your shoulder and groaned. He bent his knees and hiked his legs up, keeping his hips pressed tightly against your ass as he tested a few shallow rolls into you. The feeling of him had you tilting your head back, eyes rolling up and into the darkness of your skull.

"I need you," Vergil moaned.

He sounded close and far all at once. "You have me," you whispered. "You have me. I'm yours."

You felt Vergil's arms cradle your head as he fucked into you deeply. Every push and pull of his hips took another piece of sanity from you. Leaving you babbling his name and his name only.

Vergil kissed your face, lavished a litany of praise over your skin. He thanked you, cursed you, begged you for even more than you had already given him.

"I want you." His kiss pressed hot against your cheek. "Every part of you should be mine. Your smile. Your laugh. All of it."

"Yes!" You shouted, not knowing and not caring about whatever he was referring to. "Yes!"

The frenzy built again, peaked, and rolled you into a rush of feather-light bliss. Vergil slammed his hips into you and held himself painfully tight against you as bursts of dizzying pleasure bounced down his spine, out of his cock, and into you.

Part of him, now part of you. He could barely handle the thought of it. Moaning and whining out his satisfaction until he had no more left to give.

The two of you tangled with one another and laid on his once-pristine sheets. Exhausted, sated, and spent.

The next morning saw Vergil in a particularly chipper mood. His usual stoicism abandoned, he passed by Dante and Lady on his way to grab some fruit for you both to enjoy in bed and, hopefully, use as fuel for more…enjoyable activities.

"Good morning," Vergil greeted them both with the ghost of a smile.

Lady's jaw hit the floor.

"No way," Dante mumbled. He closed Lady's mouth. "I don't believe it."

Vergil turned over his shoulder, grinning from ear to ear like a fool in love. "Beautiful day isn't it, little brother?" He didn't wait for a response as he strided confidently back to his room. Back to you.

Alone and in shock, Dante and Lady turned to each other slowly.

"Oh my god."
