Chapter 1: Another New Character Has Joined

Chapter Text

With a flash, a new character appeared in the circus.

It was the same thing that had happened so many times before. But this time was a bit different. This one knew where he was. What he was getting into. And why he was there.

“Hey! Hello?” He shouted into the massive circus tent.

The new character squinted his eyes to adjust to the bright swirling colors - this was definitely coded in the nineties. If only it inherited the nineties love for neutral tones instead of this garish collection of neons.

He lifted his hands to his eyes, to see what he now was. Fused together fingers. Burlap cloth skin. What felt like yarn hair. He was a ragdoll.

Not ideal, but close to human, so at least there was that.

“Uh, hi there,” said the deep voice of a character that appeared to just be a set of teeth with eyes. That couldn't be him, the voice was all wrong.

“You're not my buddy. Who are you? Not the glasses dude either, your voice is way deeper.”

“I don't know what you're talking about, but excuse me for a second.”

The sentient dentures disappeared.

The new ragdoll couldn't remember his friend's name, or his own, but he was warned about that by Glasses Guy, who was apparently also in here somewhere.

“Names of loved ones and yourself, those don't go with you. That was our way of randomizing the data, and not giving away personal information, such as connections with names and memories.”

He was told he'd get a new name here. Hopefully a good one. One of the corrupted files was apparently called “Wormo”, and he wasn't about to go by that for eternity.

Suddenly, the dentures and a female ragdoll appeared. She looked concerned. Her features were quite similar to his, in a way that made him wonder if everyone here was a ragdoll. Glasses Guy said he was never a part of coding the aesthetics, and that was all up to “the program”.

Either way, the new character figured this other doll must know where his friend is.

“Uh, hi there,” he started. “I'm new. Looking for a guy here? I'm uh… damn, the weird dude with the glasses already briefed me I wouldn't remember any names. I have no idea what my guy looks like in here either. How many of you little cartoons are there? Because if there aren't a lot I can probably whittle it down through the process of elimination.”

“How… did you… get here?” The female doll asked, standing still.

An unexpected chill ran through what would be his spine. It was strange that he could feel here. And that… the doll in front of him sounded familiar.

“Wait…” He said, charging forward. “I know your voice. Why do I know that voice?”

Looking her up and down, and realizing their avatars were nearly identical, it dawned on him. “… Are you… my-”

“I'm your sister,” the doll said tersely.
