And So it Goes

Summary:

Elena Gilbert wasn't always Elena Gilbert, the doe-eyed, small-town girl. She had a whole other life once. One filled with love, happiness, heartache, and sorrow. One she wasn't quite ready to let go of, and to be frank, it wasn't ready to let go of her either.

Notes:

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to read my little fic. I'm a long-time lurker and first-time poster. It's been a while since I've watched The Vampire Diaries, but it's always been one of my favorite fandoms to read about. I had this story stuck in my head and figured, why not give it a go? I don't know how long it will be, or how frequent chapters will be posted, but I'll try to keep updated as often as my schedule allows.

Just a few notes - characters may be aged up, and slightly out of character. We are getting right into the swing of things with the introduction of Elijah in season 2. I'm not trying to rewrite all of season one. Assume Elena and Stefan are dating, Bonnie doesn't send her note to warn that they are on their way to save her, and that Damon and Stefan can get there asses kicked by older vampires. I always hated how easily they subdued Rose and staked Elijah.

Please let me know your thoughts and if this is even worth continue.

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Summary:

Elena gets kidnapped by Rose and Trevor.

Notes:

Hi all! Thanks for taking a chance to read my first fic. Please feel free to comment and let me know if you'd like to see more.

Just a few notes - characters may be aged up, I do not write smut (some may be implied), some characters may be slightly out of character (mostly Elena), assume Bonnie is actually a novice and doesn't magically know all the spells needed when they want her to, and assume older vampires can, in fact, kick Damon and Stefan's asses on site. We are getting right into it...starting with Elena being kidnapped by Trevor and Rose in season 2. At this point, all of the events of season 1 have pretty much occurred (may adjust plot as needed) and Elena is still dating Stefan (haven't had sex).

Chapter Text

Chapter One

“Trevor! Control yourself.” Rose snaps as she pulls Trevor away from Elena.

“Buzzkill.” Trevor deadpans. He takes a step back, leans against the wall, and crosses his arms. He stares at Elena’s wide eyes and smiles. “You look just like her.”

“Like who…woah…wait…Katherine?!” Elena exclaims in disbelief. “Definitely not Katherine. I’m Elena. Please - “

“Be quiet.” Rose snaps.

“But I’m not Katherine. You have the wrong person.” Elena pleads. She’s never been one for begging, but what else can she do? If she were smarter, maybe she’d feel some semblance of fear, but the only thing she felt at the moment was contempt, maybe frustration, definitely exhaustion, but fear was not present. Sharing a face with Katherine Pierce has been nothing short of exhausting. “I’m Elena.”

“Ugh!” Rose growls out. “I know who you are. I said be quiet.”

Elena may not fear them, but she wasn’t stupid. She knew when to take the L and move on. She sighed and dropped back into the most uncomfortable and dusty couch she had ever had the pleasure of lying on. She looked at Trevor, then back to Rose, and took a shot in the dark.

“So…what did Katherine do to you?” Elena asks as if she were having girl talk with Bonnie or Caroline. If she was going to be dragged to her death because of something Katherine did, the least she could get out of it was a therapy bitching session with two old vampires. “Let me guess - she fuck your brother?”

Trevor snorted and tried to hold back a laugh, as that was the last thing he expected to leave the doe-eyed girl’s mouth, but he chanced a look at Rose and knew she was ready to combust. He grabbed her hand before she could smack Elena across her pretty mouth and held it hostage in his warm hands. He caught her eye, silently pleading with her to restrain herself. After all, he’s the screw-up; she’s the one who usually keeps things together. But after centuries of running for a crime she didn’t commit, he couldn’t really blame her. This was all his fault, but they were family, and there was no one in this world more loyal than Rose.

“Be calm.” He whispered as he ran his thumb in soothing circles on the back of her hand. “We have nothing better to do, so might as well humor her.” He then turned back to Elena with a wide smile on his handsome face. “Getting antsy, aren’t we dopplelicious?”

“I wouldn’t say antsy,” Elena began, “more like over it.”

“Over it?”
“Over it,” she confirmed. “ I mean, how would you feel if you had the same fucking face as the bitch who screws over everyone? I’m not an idiot. I know I’m here because she did something stupid, and I’m the lucky one who gets called in to pay her debt. Story of my life. And I don’t want to even know how many shit lists she’s been added to in 500 years. I mean, literally every vampire I’ve met so far wants that bitch dead. I’m sure you and your girlfriend - “

“Not my girlfriend.”

“Not his girlfriend.”

“Whatever.” Elena sighs. “Girlfriend. Sister. Wife. Really makes no difference to me. I just want to know what I’m here for, and my worst days have recently been Katherine-related so I figured that’s why I’m here. But would love to know for sure.”

“I mean…you’re not wrong,” Trevor mumbles. “You are definitely here because of Katherine. She caused this situation, and you’re going to resolve it. It’s nothing personal, but it does suck to have to walk around with her face. She screwed us over on day one as a vampire so I can’t even imagine the list of enemies she’s made in the last five centuries.”

“Thanks, that fills me with so much comfort,” Elena grumbled. “So what did she do?”

“She does what she always does,” Rose started. “She manipulated this idiot into believing she had feelings for him, which led to him betraying the Originals, the most powerful vampires in the world, and us being on the run.”

Trevor looked down in shame. His stupidity cost not only him, but Rose as well. No matter how many times he asked her to leave him behind, she never would. “Katherine tricked me. I fell for it. Rose paid for it, but you, dear doppleganger, are quite literally the key to our freedom from the Originals.”

“The Originals?” Elena asked. “Who are the Originals?”

“The name is pretty much a dead giveaway.” Rose looks at her as if she were an idiot. “The older the vampire, the stronger the vampire, and there are no vampires older than the Originals.”

“Are you saying you are trying to make amends with the first vampires to ever exist!” Elena exclaimed loudly.

“Yes.” They replied simultaneously.

“How old are we talking?”

“A thousand years, give or take.” Trevor shrugs. “No one really knows.”
“A thousand years?” Elena looks between the pair and sighs. She isn’t exactly thrilled to be on the radar of a being that old, but at the same time, meeting one may be exactly what she needs.
