Work Text:
Emma,
They pulled me out of school. I was close to graduating anyway, and they said I’d learn more in the field than in the classroom. I’m so excited, Tseng hand-picked me out of over 80 candidates. He took me on a tour of the building yesterday—I didn’t tell him you’d already shown me most of the secure areas.
I don’t like that the office is in the freaking basement. How did you put up with it? It’s like working in a morgue!

Emma,
I thought I’d get more than the official guff now that I’m a Turk but Rude just shrugs, and I don’t dare ask Tseng. All the files have been deleted—it’s like you never existed. It’s like none of you ever existed. I don’t get it.
We’re heading out tomorrow. Finally! My first real mission. We’re going after Sephiroth—‘Killed in action’ my arse. Just between you and me I’m a little nervous. He was the greatest SOLDIER of all time, y’know? But nothing I can’t handle.
I wish you had left me a forwarding address, or, I don’t know. Something.

Emma,
It feels like we’re chasing a ghost. And speaking of ghosts, we ran into AVALANCHE. I wanted to deal a little payback, but like Tseng says: the job comes first.
You used to say that too. I always figured it was just an excuse to avoid spending time with me.
Reno’s out of the hospital. He won’t give me a straight answer either, just kept making ‘jokes’ about discount knock-offs. Screw him. At least I’m here…which is more than I can say for you.
Guess you found something more important than the job after all.
Laney
Emma,
I asked Tseng if you were dead, and he said you weren’t.
I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t lie to me. Not about that anyway.
You’ve been gone for so long, and everything is harder than I thought it would be.
Laney
Emma,
I think the world might be ending.
Please, come home. Please.
Laney
