【宿虎】 a saint and a sinner

Summary:

Sukuna is under a peace oath with modern society's Jujutsu world. He shall not bother them and they shall not bother him. (Gojō's words, not Sukuna's.) The current sorcerers were still wary of this oath, yet both parties kept their word. Sukuna had not been in contact with anyone other than his servant Uraume ever since the agreement and Binding Vow was set.

Now, by the Buddha, why is there a teenager roaming the gardens of his sacred estate?

Chapter 1

Notes:

1) I do not give permission for all my works being used in any form of AI

2) Go read Stumbling Backwards Into Winter by Cogni_Diss! It is such an amazing fanfic and I cannot recommend it enough, this fic is also heavily inspired by theirs so go read that!
3) im going into this completely blind (as usual with fanfics because i cannot plan), so i hope i can get at least a few chapters done
4) i'm not good at writing, i am no shakespeare, i do not know poetry or anything fancy like that, never been good at it. don't expect something amazingly well written🙏 English isn't my native language and there are bound to be some grammatical errors and basically any other error, i struggle with writing something in-depth so apologies if sometimes things are too rushed or doesnt make sense or it's too plain, or whatever
5) y'know how Sukuna said at the end of the JJK manga, that if he got another chance he'd take a different path? Yeah, that's this I suppose, but it happens way earlier instead of how Yūji ate his finger, so, alternate universe! yay!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

2018年3月1日

"A mere human daring to pass the grounds that belong to a God like me?"

The only thing Yūji could think of was a singular curse word he wouldn't dare to even mutter in front of his grandparent as he watched the four-armed deity in front of him. The behemoth of a man did not look pleased. Fuck.

.

.

.

"Itadori-kun, please! It's not everyday we get to do something like this! Please!" Sasaki grouses as she held the pink haired boy's arm, pulling at it and trying to make him follow her. Instead, Yūji does not even move an inch while she tries her hardest.

She mumbles something inaudible as she stops pulling, exhausted. "Iguchi! Tell him that he needs to go with us!" Sasaki snaps and turns to look at her other friend and club member who was observing the pair. Sasaki continues to cling onto Yūji's arm, who was staring at her movements with almost an smile of amusement.

"Sasaki, if he really doesn't want to go... Just let him stay here with the others." Iguchi tries to reason, but Sasaki being Sasaki, it will not work. "But now we got the perfect chance! We don't usually get to stay in a forest for like, two weeks! We're in like the middle of nowhere! Imagine all the spooky shit we could find!"

Just about a month ago, Yūji's homeroom teacher had announced a two-week camping trip at the Futakuchi campgrounds as their final activity before the graduation ceremony for everyone arrives. But with his grandpa in the hospital, Yūji was doubting if he should come with. In the end, his grandpa convinced him to go with his class to the camp, saying that he needs to see more of the nature instead of only sitting here by his bedside or just reading manga in his free time...

"Ughh, Itadori pleaseee!" She hangs on the e. "I bet there's a haunted shrine in this forest!" She begins to shake Yūji's arm. "Or there's cursed spirits out there." Iguchi quips.

Yūji sighs, damn, they're right about that though. And eventually... "Only one way to find out, when do you guys wanna head into the forest?"

"Yes! Thank you thank you thank you! We can't do it without you!" The girl hugs his arm before letting go, face full of excitement. "Yeah yeah, lets go before the teacher comes to us and gives us an task to do-"

So now the trio were walking in the forest, Sasaki had mainly been taking pictures of the nature surrounding them while both Iguchi and Yūji were looking around to try and maybe spot something interesting, maybe an cave or hole. Hopefully something spooky, but was only met with boring stuff.

But suddenly,

There's a temple bell in the distance, Yūji stops and turns his head towards the sound, but it sounds like it was everywhere.

Sasaki notices Yūji behavior and follows his gaze, only staring into nothing. "What'd you see?"

"Did you guys hear that too?" Yūji asks.

Both iguchi and Sasaki take a glimpse of each other before looking back at Yūji. "Hear what?" Iguchi asks, "What are you talking about?" Sasaki joins in.

Yūji turns to look at them like they were crazy. "But that was quite loud..."

"...Whatever. Lets continue!" Yūji says.

Twelve minutes later, and still nothing interested came towards them.

"Ugh, I don't think anything is here Sasakiii..." Yūji whines. "We should head back to the camp before the teacher starts to complain we went too far off or something and punishes us." Iguchi notes. But was earned a grunt from both the girl and the boy now. "We could try again tomorrow towards a different direction." A phone begins to ring, and it startled Sasaki. To which Yūji only snickers to her suddenly jumping from the sound. Iguchi takes his phone and sees who's calling him. "Senpai," He informs the pair before picking up the call. "You guys should head back before your sensei starts to worry."

Sometimes the trio should all thank their senpai for being so chill with them doing what counts as reckless things as activities for their occult club. "We were just heading back, does Suzuki sensei know we're away or..." Iguchi questions into the phone while putting it on the speaker. "Nah, but he will know soon if you guys don't return in like thirty minutes. Just get back safe. But I trust you guys with that." Sasaki eyes Iguchi and Yūji before replying. "We're on our way! Just please make sure Sensei doesn't catch up on the fact we've walked off-" Yūji joins the conversation. "-But why would he be even angry at us if we're doing club activities?" "Itadori-kun, I hope you're aware of the fact it's still school hours, even if we're at the camp, it isn't time for club activities yet." Whoops.

"It's fine we're heading back now, see you later senpai!" And Sasaki hangs up before Iguchi or Yūji could continue talking.

"Dude-" Both guys said.

The trio began to make their way back to the camp, following the same path they had taken to walk further into the forest. Sasaki continued to enjoy the nature while occassionally trying to look for anything they might've missed that they could explore later. And Iguchi just kept his eye on her and the time.

Yūji however was walking behind him. And he looks a bit around when he realized he was walking in the eared he'd heard that weird bell from.

When reaching the camp, the three of them blends back into the other students like they hadn't disappeared for over a hour or two. And luckily, they were just in time for an activity made by their teachers that we're at the camp.

Everyone continued to have a good time, time passes by, and it's almost 8 PM after everyone had dinner.

Most of his classmates were unpacking their stuff, but Yūji had already done that when they'd arrived. So currently he was a bit bored.

His homeroom teacher Suzuki Sensei turns to Yūji from where he was standing, inspecting the current wood they'd collected for the campfire. "Itadori-kun, could you please grab more firewood for us? We probably will need more for later." Yūji looks at his teacher before replying, "Sure thing, teach!" And then he begins to walk off, into the forest.

When first exploring it with Sasaki and Iguchi, they had not seen much at all. Except for the beautiful scenery of course. But not a single abandoned shrine or temple or what else you could possibly find in this big forest.

They had seen animals too.

Something catches Yūji’s eyes, a turquoise color on the ground, and he stumbles towards it with curiosity.

It’s a roof tile, seemingly old.

Why's there a dirty roof tile here? Is there a building nearby? Yūji gets more curious, and begins to head further into the forest. He's fine, he knows what way to walk back towards the camp with his compass. Surely.

Yūji continues moving forward, until something else catches his eyes, and it was similar to the dirty roof tile on the ground he'd seen a few minutes before.

But, it was a lot more.

It's a... tsuijibei wall? As he inches closer, he can more clearly see it. He turns to look to the side, eyes trailing along to wall that continued to follow through the forest. A big and long one at that

Yūji gets closer, taking note of how the wall seems neglected. Moss covering at the bottom of the bricks and wood, indicating that it'll start spreading further onto the walls over the years if it keeps being neglected from cleaning. The tiles on the roof seemed rusty too, old, brown leaves sticking between the gaps of the now ugly green color, vines here and there... Did he just find an abandoned building? Ugh, he wishes Sasaki and Iguchi were with him now, imagine if they found this earlier!

That's when the teen decides to try and find the entrance of it. If it's truly a tsuijibei wall then it must have a gate. And just when Yūji thinks about it, he's reached the end of the wall here. But when he turns to look right, he can see it continues west- and there it was. The wall is connected to a large ...and closed gate.

Yūji frowns as he approaches it.

The wood looks neglected, edges decayed due to the fungal spread across it, and the rest of the wood looks wet and rotten.

He tugs at the handles, grimaces a bit as the gross texture of the orange rusty and dirty steel gets in contact with his skin. Rough beneath his fingers.

The teen lets out a huff, letting go of the handles, he wants to know what is on the other side...

The place looks large with how he had followed along the walls towards the gate, why is it abandoned?

Taking a few steps backwards and glancing above, he notes it does not seem like it would be easy to climb over the walls. Especially not with the tiles as the roof of the walls.

Yūji wonders if Iguchi could help him cross the walls...

Crack.

Yūji immediately whips his head towards wherever that sound came from, that wasn't him... It came from the right of where he's standing. He narrows his eyes.

Honey colored orbs scan the area in the distance, but can't see if there's a animal or anyone else in that direction. Maybe he could check it out?

Without a second thought, the teen was already moving towards the sound, walking next to the wall that was being withered away into nature. The more he walks, the more he came closer to the end of the wall, and still no new sound of it repeating. Maybe a bird?

He looks left, and was met with a miracle.

Yūji had spotted a mess in the walls, and it looks like it might be broken. A simple way in? Hopefully.

He inches closer to the broken mess in the wall, pieces of bricks, broken wood and mud were covering the ground around the hole, did a car ride into the wall or something? Why the hell is it so broken- and damn that wall is thick from the inside.

With silently observing the damage of the wall, it looks like it wasn't too old, but also not too recent. Yūji peeks, or rather, crouches down to look through it. The hole is large enough for him to creep through, and he can see the through the other side. And its... What the hell? Yūji scrunches his eyes as if that would improve his vision. The nature across the wall looks so well tended! Like a garden! What?

Mmm... He looks over his shoulder back, almost thinking as if his teachers would stand there catching him in the act of running away from camp instead of only bringing firewood—Oh right! The firewood! He completely forgot about it the second he saw that tile! But... He's alone. A sneak peek wouldn't hurt right? It'll be quick!

And he wants to cross those walls.

Yūji looks back at the large hole, before finally moving towards it—and eventually passing through.

The second he stepped foot across the broken wall, through the hole, a small surge of energy became noticeable to the teen, feeling like he was a bit under pressure. But it faded just fast as it began when he fully stepped onto the property. The hairs at the nape of his neck refused to settle however, like if someone was breathing against his neck. The hell was that about?

Probably nerves, so he decides to ignore it, Yūji’s curiosity will be the death of him sometime. But not right now. Surely not, he thinks to himself.

He glances back through the destroyed tsuijibei he just stepped through, the walls are thick... Yūji still wonders what could've happened what made a hole through it. But enough wondering about stuff he'll probably never know! He's got a place to explore!

And thus, the pink haired teen began to move further onto the grounds of the estate. The area is large, he quickly notices. And very well tended. A bit too well tended for it to be abandoned.

What if he's trespassing—walking on private property of a family or monks... However, the estate getting closer in sight immediately distracted him from his thoughts.

"Woah."

Yūji mindlessly began to walk further into the large gardens, eyes catching the estate well in the background as nature surrounded him. He steps over a tree root, and something tugged lightly at the back of his hoodie.

The action made Yūji glace behind him. But nothing was there, only the "entrance" he crawled from. Must've been an branch. and Yūji continues forward.

The estate is really nice… Yūji couldn’t help himself but get more curious, why’s there an estate in the middle of the forest of Sendai he’s never heard of? Were there monks here taking care of it? Wait—what if he really is trespassing—ah crap, well, he doesn’t notice anyone around so… maybe it’s abandoned? But the place looks too clean for it to be abandoned… well if he does run into a monk maybe he could ask! Or he’d be trouble. There was barely a noticeable change in the air, but far too thin for the pinkette to notice while he’s deep in thought debating to himself if he should allow himself to walk further.

Yūji can see the different types of trees that were here. Cedar, Cypress, Sakura—It blooms. Leaves following the wind that occasionally passes through.

There's a large pond, it's elegant, and clean. He could spot a few fishes from where he's standing.

He can see there's also a red painted, vermilion, wooden bridge connected from the other side, leading to a small island in the center of the waters, that had stone at the edge around it. Yūji could see the bridge's slightly arching shape with unlit lanterns at either ends.

The island in the middle of the pond only contains one single overgrown tree, accompanied by what it looks like... four weathered stone platforms and a larger stone platform in the center? It reminds him of a small table set. A small stone lantern near it, next to what it looks like an offering stone.

However—The bridge is not the only way to access the grounds in the middle. The teen saw stone through the waters, medium sized platforms you could hop over if you were careful enough to not slip and fall into the waters. Yūji wants to try reach the island that way if he can...

Yūji gets closer to the waters, eyes lingering on the glassy surface the Koi fish were swimming in, but soon noticed how his own view was a bit disorienting. Or well, something behind his reflection. It seemed wrong. But only for two seconds before a fish underneath the reflecting waters removed it.

"...Huh?" Whatever.

He continues to look at the pond, noting how water lilies lie on the reflecting surface—and is that a dock in the distance by the water? Not only that, it's not that silent, you can hear the water splashing against the rocks and waters under it. It's a waterfall? Damn.

The pink haired boy notices a path nearby, and since he doesn't see anyone around, he decides to walk on it. Curious where it'll lead him.

As Yūji walks further, he passes the stone lanterns accompanying him along the pathways, now that he notices—there's almost everywhere tōrō located, near the pond, beneath the trees, and now along the pathways. His pupils trails over the building connected to the gardens. It seems like it's a Shinden-Zukuri inspired mansion or some sort of architecture, it seems old-fashioned. It wasn't constructed like modern estates he'd seen at school trips. It more reminds him of the pictures in his history books at school. The wood of the central hall is dark, connecting to what it looks like corridors connecting to eastern and western side buildings. Maybe there's more behind it? He can't exactly see.

Every sliding door Yūji could see was closed. Maybe no one's home. Yūji stepped forward and his shadow followed, but for a second, something about its shape seemed wrong. And he did not notice it.

Yūji also quickly notices how the estate is bigger in reality than only just seeing it through the trees.

Cool.

Maybe he should head back before someone actually turns out to live here— but... A peek closer wouldn’t hurt anyone right?

And with that final thought, Yūji continued his adventure, looking around, and trying to listen for any extra steps nearby but was greeted with none. Maybe it really is abandoned? Just recently?

The path underneath him began to separate from the estate grounds, like he's entering a more secluded part of the property.

Yūji walks under a torii, it was the same vermilion color from the bridge he saw earlier... the gravel path began to turn into large, carefully placed stones with a bit of moss on it. The torii seems old.

His footsteps follow along the now stone pathway, leading him further into the gardens that are connected to the large building surrounding the nature. He looks around admiring how well tended the garden was, flowers he rarely saw—bamboo, ferns, wisteria, and a few small yet beautiful bonsai trees perfectly in place. And soon after, another building came in sight, no, a shrine came in sight. So he's on sacred grounds. Noted.

Yūji rubs at the back of his neck. As if a strange itch crawled there. He scratched at it, expecting to find a bug. But was only met with nothing. Mosquito? Whatever...  Stupid bugs.

Yūji stops, taking in the view. He’s probably very much not allowed to be here. From his vision the shrine looked clean, yet no offerings were in sight. No wishes, no fortunes tied to nearby branches... Nothing. Almost as if the shrine had no purpose—He wants to back off, but his feet did otherwise and seconds later he stood in-front of the shrine. From what kami or deity even is this? He looks further at the shrine, it's... red. On a large stone platform too. It's open as well, A prayer hall, and another structure sat further back. Hidden behind wooden doors. But for the rest it's just pillars supporting the roof. Accompanied by large branches and unlit lanterns.

The roof didn't make it any better, the curling ornaments rising upwards of each edge. The turquoise color of each tile that was placed perfectly- not a single one out of place or dirty... And also- The large... Appendages? Yūji isn't sure, it almost looks like bones sticking out of the roof. All it can remind him of is a skeleton.

Almost as if the shrine is malevolent. Yūji does not enjoy what he just thought about.

What’s weirder is… why was there a sacred shrine hidden in the middle of the forest on the grounds of an estate!? Shouldn't that be public—

Suddenly, his left shoulder felt oddly heavy. Just enough to hurt. And Yūji shrugs it off as his body reacting weirdly to this place.

The teen’s body shudders as he felt four eyes staring down at him out of nowhere, wait, was he wrong and there truly were monks around? Well it made sense given how clean the place is—

"A mere human daring to pass the grounds that belong to a God like me?"

The teen jumps from the heavy sound of another being speaking down at him, goosebumps starting to cover all over his arms and legs. The sudden voice behind him was cold and had cut off his thoughts. Yūji looks over his shoulder before his eyes began to widen—he at least was expecting an angry monk, but nothing could've prepared him for this.

There behind him stood what others would call a God, a mythical being, a Kami, or something far worse. Yūji hopes he wouldn't find that out the hard way. Teeth with sharp, pointed fangs at the corners of the mouth, two large sets of eyes on the left side of the monster's face. Accompanied by dark, almost what it looks like rotten flesh making a well known appearance on the face like it's a mask, but connects to the being's skin as if it always had belonged there. On the other side of his face, there was a normal pair of eye—well, eyes. A smaller one just located in the bottom corner of where the human eye was located. If you could even call it a human eye. The man's hair color was almost like his own—but in a tint of far more warmer, and slicked back, exposing the far normal forehead.

The head was connected with a mass of muscle of a neck covered in black marks on both sides, the daylight divided against the rough skin and veins exposed into the air, a torso full on display but his shoulders were covered by a black haori, but Yūji does not miss the black markings, tattoos? were imprinted on the large pecs.

The teen also takes quick notice how the being in front of him owns four large sets of arms coming from the haori, two of which were crossed, and the upper pair were connected to the hands on his hips. Talk about the ability to be able to express your displease at something... Yūji's almost jealous.

For the rest, the large being was only wearing a white hakama with a black outer rope at the hips keeping the fabric in place, the hanging bow is almost cute if it wasn't for the giant mass of muscle wearing it... The pink haired boy also takes note how he wasn't wearing anything else, not even something at his feet. Doesn't that hurt when he steps on something sharp? Though...

Yūji isn't sure if he should call him a man or a monster. A hybrid maybe? Wait! He shouldn't disrespect a deity! If the shrine behind him belongs to the being in front of him—gramps would be pissed! Gods can't read minds right? Right?!

The only thing Yūji could think of was a singular curse word he wouldn't dare to even mutter in front of his grandparent as he watched the four-armed deity in front of him staring him down, probably waiting for a reply or explanation. Yūji can feel the absolute weight of those eyes looking down at him, crimson clashing against his own honey colored orbs.

A sweat began to trail from his own neck. Taking in the emotion that the other was showing, whether it was from the air surrounding him or just his visible expression with that seems like two faces...

The behemoth of a man did not look pleased. Fuck.

"I-um..." Yūji curses at himself as he hears how weak his own voice sounded compared to the man in front of him. "I didn't know someone lived here!" Well, technically he did, but, he chose to ignore all the hints that there were other presents on the property.

The attempt of an excuse made man move his head just a few centimetres towards the estate. Indicating the clear signs of life on the grounds, "Clearly." Talk about being rude!

But as the four-armed man replied, Yūji noticed another presence coming forward, he saw a person, just about his own height, with a bob cut of winter white hair, with a tint of red in the middle on the sides. A monk? They do look well dressed in monk clothes compared to the other.

But for the rest, the new company said nothing and only looked at Yūji with an intense stare. Wait, no. They were staring just pass Yūji's shoulder, like someone was behind him. Yūji doesn't want to follow his gaze to whatever they were looking at, as he was too busy focusing on the deity.

The white haired monk's eyes flickered towards the large man next to them, but the gaze was soon again settled somewhere over his shoulder.

Just then Yūji felt something behind him move, the area around the back of his neck became colder, like something was hugging—almost choking—him from behind, like it had realized the pair in front of the teen had seen it.

"I do wonder how a curse managed to pass your veil, Uraume."

The four armed being muttered and raised two fingers next to each other in the air, before the curse that was latching onto Yūji could make a move and attack the pair or the boy, it had already been exorcised.

"...How annoying." The man said.

Yūji failed to figure out what the other just did, and is left confused, but didn't ask anything. Yet.

The monk next to the being barely moved, yet their head inced downwards, like they had failed. "I apologize, Sukuna-sama. I had not noticed my veil had started to weaken."

"You're fine," The being, Sukuna? Replied before looking back at Yūji, uh oh. "Now, I do wonder why a teenager out of all options they could've sent, is here." They? Who the hell is they?! He doesn't work for anyone!

Yūji swallows nervously. "Um..."

Sukuna raises his only eyebrow due to the lack of reply. Almost as if he was amused, and it made Yūji only more nervous. Oh gods what if he'll get punished by a deity... if that's what Sukuna is.

"I got curious... about what an estate would be doing in the middle of a forest and- it looked abandoned with how dirty the walls were outside so I kind of wanted to see what was on the other side of the tsuijibei wall," The teen begins to fidget with the side of his shorts as he continues. "Um, your garden is really pretty and well tended. Sorry for entering your property without being invited," Yūji compliments and apologizes. And the monk, Uraume, let out a small huff, they looked like they were smiling. Just barely noticable.

"Something you find hilarious, Uraume?" Sukuna asks. And Yūji saw how only one eye, the bottom eye of the normal side of his face was looking down at the monk. And it looks like Uraume had noticed it too. "He's interesting. I doubt he is sent by them." Uraume murmers. And Sukuna lets out a hum before he moves, Yūji thought the larger man would get closer to him, but Sukuna only backed off and turned around while walking away. "Prepare tea for the guest."

Uh...? Okay, then.

"Follow me."

Yūji glances back at the shrine behind him before realizing Sukuna spoke to him instead of the monk. He only nods in return as he trailed after the taller one and the monk.

When they arrived at an entrance, Uraume separated ways, and Sukuna moved inside without waiting for the teen to follow him.

Yūji quickly removes his shoes on the stone step before he trailed after Sukuna, hoping he didn't just lose him. Yūji can't imagine how big the inside of this place must be. If it seems big from the outside, it is definitely bigger from the inside.

It's kind of awkward how neither of them were talking. Yūji doesn't like it that much, if he's honest.

The pink haired boy looks around as they walked through the halls, "So, uh, is it just you and that monk around here or are there more...?"

Sukuna let out a hum before answering. "Usually." Usually? What the hell does that imply? Wait. Maybe people that come to make offerings? However, Yūji decides not to question it given how short his answer is.

Not soon after, Sukuna slides open Shoji doors as they had arrived at what it seems like a chashitsu, Yūji guesses. And he watches how the four armed being sat down on the tatami mats, probably waiting for Yūji to sit with him. "Sit." Sukuna commands, like he'd just read Yūji's mind.

Right. He's drinking tea. With... a kami. This is so weird.

Yūji swiftly moves towards the other and sat down next to him. Yet kept a respectful distance.

Uraume arrives seconds later with a tea set, only containing a pot and two flat shaped tea bowls... hira-gata?

The monk serves tea to both of them.

"How'd you pass through my servant's veil?" Sukuna asks out of nowhere. And Uraume is done serving for them, they move back to a wall as if they were waiting for a new command from their master.

...Veil? Like from clothes? He blinks.

Yūji's confusion gave the kami enough of an answer, like he'd just confirmed something.

"What's a veil?"

Sukuna did not reply as he took a cup and had a sip from it.

"What's your name?"

The teen followed Sukuna's moves, grabbing the tea bowl with one hand, but quickly notes how Sukuna's eyes linger over the hand he was holding the bowl with. And realized how the elder was holding his own tea bowl with two hands.

Whoops.

He quickly corrects his mistake and Sukuna continues drinking.

Yūji now starts to hesitate telling some random dude in a forest his name, but yet again, is Sukuna really just some random dude? "Itadori Yūji at your service!" Yūji gives a quick bow with his head, a smirk lingering over his face before looking back into Sukuna's eyes. "What about you?"

Yūji too begins to drink the tea, it's... Quite nice. He should tell Uraume that. "Ryōmen Sukuna." Sukuna's tone was flat. But, the glint in his eyes was something else, almost as if he was waiting for Yūji to realize who he'd been hanging out with.

But Yūji only hums in acknowledgement, "That's a cool name, it sounds old though."

Neither Uraume nor Sukuna replied at that comment.

Yūji continues to drink his tea. "The tea is really good, Uraume-san!" He says as he looks at the monk in the corner. Who only gave a simple nod.

Sukuna eyes him with amusement.

"Can I ask questions?" Yūji asks.

Sukuna sips from the cup again, "You just did."

"Can I ask more?"

"...Sure." The kami almost sighs out.

"How old is this place? From the outside the walls it looked really old but from the inside, it feels so recently build! Really pretty by the way!"

Yūji suddenly felt six eyes on him.

"The origin of the estate is old, but it'd been recently restored again. Just a few years ago."

The teen hums in acknowledgement. "I see, do the Koi have names?" Uraume moves their head a bit at the question leaving Yūji.

Sukuna barely moves from how the kid switched conversation topics so quick. "No."

The answer seemed to dampen the teen's mood. Sukuna watched how the other's shoulders fall.

"Oh! By the way- The way I managed to enter your gardens... There's actually a hole in the walls, I'm not sure if you're aware of that but, yeah."

"We didn't." Was all Sukuna said as he watches how Uraume took a mental note.

Nobody spoke another word as they sat there in silence, enjoying each other's company unknowingly while they drank the tea.

The teen's eyes lingers again around the room, the tokonoma visible to the side of the room with a vase that's accompanied by flowers and a hanging scroll from the wall. But Yūji can't recognize what it says, maybe he can ask about that.

He now moves his gaze over the other next to him, who was drinking from the bowl peacefully. Yūji now also realizes that he could take a better look at Sukuna. He now notices how the markings from earlier he'd seen on his neck were connected to each other and ran all the way down the back side of Sukuna's neck. Yūji wonders if it was connected to another piece of markings under the black haori. Yūji also sees that Sukuna has something by his ear, it doesn't really look like an earring yet at the same time it does. It suits Sukuna, the teen thinks.

"Ryōmen-sama?"

"Hm?"

The pink haired boy hesitates before continuing. "Can I be honest with you even if it could be rude or something I don't know-I don't want to step over line..."

"Speak."

Yūji blinks, "You don't really look like a Kami." He stops and takes in Sukuna's form further, interested and curious before he opened his mouth again.

"You just look like some regular dude with extra limbs and stuff, y'know?"

No. Sukuna did not know. And he gave a huff that could count as a small amused laugh. Not bothering to comment on the remark Yūji just made and placed the bowl down.

"Wait, for real though, are you a Kami?"

The pink haired boy could see how the other took a second before hopefully, truthfully replying.

A hum almost sang through the room like a humming bird, there's a tune on it, Yūji can tell.

"People prayed for me once, and I received offerings. But that has been a while ago." An honest answer, but it sounded bored with how Yūji watched the four armed man lazily resting his head in one of his hands. Uraume managed to hide their surprise at their master's reply while Yūji only had curiosity and interest lingering on those yellow orbs of his.

"So you're not a Kami?"

"I have never considered myself as one."

Yūji's a bit confused. "Huh. But, what about the shrine? Isn't that yours?"

However, his question received no answer.

When the teen begins to realize that a sunset is starting to set, he suddenly stands up. The sudden movement made Uraume change their stance.

Shit- Shit! He lost track of time! Oh no, he also didn't have any wood! Wait! He can find wood easily when he runs back towards the camp!

"I should head back." Yūji says with a tone like he suddenly is in a hurry before looking at Sukuna, apologetic.

Sukuna raises his head and eyes the outside, noticing that Tasogare has begun settling over the estate. Then he turns to the teen, unbothered by the movement. "Were you staying somewhere?"

"Yeah! Since my entire class is graduating our sensei's agreed to a two week camping trip before we finally graduate and part ways." The teen chirps happily, excited about the activity after all.

Sukuna's eyes scans him. "I see." He stands up.

"Let me accompany you to the gates." And with that Sukuna stands up from the tatami mats and leaves the room, again leaving Yūji not bothering to wait for the teen.

"Thank you, Ryōmen-sama!" Yūji says behind him as he too passes the shoji doors and Uraume trails the both of them.

Yūji had not stopped using the suffix on Sukuna.

From the distance, the white haired monk had taken note how Sukuna-sama's behaviour was... different towards the boy compared to others they'd seen Sukuna interact with. Maybe they should ask about it when they find the right time.
