Work Text:

"Is this necessary?" Frank stood next to a giant turkey figure, almost big as his torso. The figure was standing in the middle of the nurse station, with all the messy paperwork and glove packets. McKay smirked and patted the back of the turkey

"A gift from one of the patients. Apparently he is a carpenter." She laughed, it seems that this silly figure had boosted her mood. "That's unbelievably funny." Frank shook his head with a smirk, then Mel stepped to the station.

"That's cute. Yours?" Mel asked, completely unaware. Frank snorted quietly and shook his head. "No, come from a carpenter patient. Thats hilarious" Frank looked at the statue again, intensely in order to avoid an eye contact with Mel.

"Hah, Yes. It's actually kinda sad to have a statue of some animal which is going to be our dinner tonight."

Frank looked at her with a frown uncontrollably. "Different perspective, yeah. But it's cute." He defended a wooden turkey figure with all his heart if it's possible.

"I love honeybees more." Mel blurted out, and then she realized. There's no similarity between a turkey and a honeybee. Like- Why is she saying this out loud? Was it weird? Is he going to roll his eyes and walk away llike she was the most idiotic person in this hospital? Because she is? Is she?

Instead of the 117th scenario in Mel's head, Frank laughed and leaned his hip against the counter and crossed his arms. "Really? Why?" He said, sounded interested. Mel checked his expression, the was he stood right next to the sink and waiting her to explain. She cleared her throat and started talking.

"First of all, they make honey. Which is one of the most durable foods in the world. Well. Kinda." Mel shrugged. She suddenly felt like she shouldn't be talking this nonsense at all, in the work.

"Okay, I am gonna check my patient." She said, turning 180° with one foot and started walking. Frank rushed to her, his hands going to his stethoscope as a habit.

"Hey, I was interested." Frank said, walking next to her.

"No, I was just thinking- We don't have time for chitchat. Busy day, hard patient-" Mel said as she opened the door. And she was an empty bed.

"Well. I have guessed it." She said as she looked at the closed curtains and dark room. Frank frowned, stared at her as she scanned her ID card and checked the charts.

"What happened?" Frank leaned towards her, looking at the computer over her shoulder. Mel felt him closer than before, his confused gaze on her, and the computer, she could even hear his breathing, since the door is closed...

"Mel?" "Huh?" She startled and pulled back, then, looked at him again.

"George Dample, men, 27, have a hospital phobia, going to therapist, waiting for Kiara to get treatment, but he ran away. That was weid. But we can't say anything else, because when he tried to leave, I said that the consequences of his actions are not the hospital's problem..." Mel started talking constantly, without any breath, any space, anything for Frank to question. After a whole speech of talking nonsense for Frank, important for Mel, he spoke.

"So?"

"So what? I am telling you as you are my superior" Mel immediately answered as she had thought about this conversation lots of times before. She turned to computer, Frank was still too close, looking at the computer with the small blue eyes... His hair was perfect as usual. And the stubble.

"Patient" Mel hummed. Frank turned to her while he was laying his elbows on the computer, slightly bended.

"Stubble. No, no, stable." Mel blurted out, suddenly the air felt so thick in this room. She had closed all the doors and curtains to make the patient feel like he is not in the hospital.

"Stubble, ha?" Frank smirked and caressed his chin a bit. "Like it?"

Her eyes widened. For all this time, all the conversations they had, she always think that she is misunderstanding his behaviours. How he is so interested in her personality, small things. How he runs after her with his hands on his stethoscope... But this was the most certain thing.

This was a flirty behavior and he was flirting with him.

This questioning and thinking session took 10 seconds for Mel, which made Frank look like a pufferfish. Then, Frank interrupted the silence.

"Mel?" Frank looked at her, noticed how she is slightly off balance and looking like she is panicking. He knew what he was doing, he always did. All of the flirting, he thought this was the most obvious one.

But she didn't objected. Or didn't say "Sorry, I can't" or "This is inappropriate" or "I don't like it". Which he thinks she would've said if she is uncomfortable. But she didn't. He could see how her ears turned red even the dark room.

That's the time, he though and pushed himself off from the computer and leaned. In that moment, he knew he can't pull back and he kissed her like there's no other chance.

Mel was still in shock before he kissed her, has a couple scenarios in her head. But after her lips felt his, she felt something fit like a puzzle piece between them. All of the nervous conversations, Frank's not understandable flirty acts and the tension.

Yes, the tension was the word.

Frank held her by her back, slightly pushed her braid but careful as hell not to ruin it. His thumb was caressing her spine while they were still kissing. His other hand was on hers, which just standing like a statue in front of him. She didn't know what to do. She wasn't the one who has lots of past relationships. Well, she doesn't have one. So, she hoped he'll understand that she doesn't know anything about kissing and try to help her.

And of course, he understood. He always did. He knew that if they are together, it'll be her first relationship. He wanted her to be relax, and calm down. So, not to overwhelm her, he pulled back. He would've kept the kiss longer, deeper, what he needed. What he had dreamt. But he didn't for her.

"Was that okay? I-"

"Dr. Langdon." Mel was looking down at her sleeves, pushed her glasses up.

"Frank. Call me Frank."

"Dr. Frank." Mel took a deep breath. "Let's talk about this after shift. Two and half hours left." She finallt gathered the courage to look up at him, and realized, he was as red as she was.

"Yeah, of course, after shift. Can I drive you home?"

"Of course." Mel stood still, while Frank had held the door handle when she spoke up again.

"Frank."

"Yeah, Mel?" Frank turned again, pulled the sleeves of the cream undershirt.

"...May I get another one?" Mel blurted, she was trying to find the words, how can I ask a person you want to kiss more?

Frank smiled, it wasn't a smirk. A gentle, loving smile. He made it. He made her comfortable, made her feel that she is loved. He leaned again to kiss her, this time his hands were either side of her head. He tilted his head for the better access, felt her hands slowly settled on his shoulders as they kissed for a long time.

After they seperated, Frank smiled at her. Mel smiled too, after relaxed and learned how to kiss him after a few seconds of confusion. Then, Frank walked to the door, and turned to her.

"George is in south 6." Frank smiled.

"What? What do you mean?"

"I transferred him." Frank said with a calmest tone possible made Mel confuse more.

"Why?" Mel stepped forward.

"Because I needed that kiss." Frank said and left the room, alone with her thoughts.
