Chapter Text
No matter what froggydude would do, he’d never come out on top. Not when he completed the challenges and certainly not when he failed them. Whether Grox would just take is life or his boss was dissatisfied didn’t matter, it all felt the same anyway.
Pointless.
So fucking pointless. He would always be punished no matter the circumstances. Hell, he could’ve beaten the hardest challenge to be created, and somehow, someone would be angered or upset because of it. So really, what did he do this for?
At first he just wanted to be worshipped, then he wanted to become a boss himself, after that he wanted Grox’s body for some reason? He doesn’t really like talking about that…
Now finally, what did he want? To gain something, anything? To experience praise?
what did he want?
Not even he knows at this point.
….
Maybe freedom?
…
Nah. That’s way too hopeful.
__________
“Another challenge? Do I still not impress the head honcho?” Froggy asked himself, groaning as he did so. He seriously was starting to hate these challenges, they were getting very… repetitive.
He’d start the challenge by going to Grox’s village, getting liked by the tyrant, becoming a favorite of his, earning wealth and freedom, does something stupid, gets hunted down, and either survives or faces death. Very few times he goes against Grox immediately to change something about the rountine.
Sometimes he wishes things would just turn out differently. Maybe instead of being hunted he could just be cherished by the people, be liked by Grox instead of being a “favorite”, or even just living normally without having to submit. At this point, he’d be willing to be Grox’s bodyguard if it meant something in his life would become different or enticing.
Yet, he knows nothing will. Grox will always be the dictator everyone loves and adores, and froggy will be… well froggy. The main character who opposes the monarchy and ultimately will have a 50/50 of losing or winning.
But today’s challenge did seem a bit… off.
This time it just said “The monarch” , which the name itself is odd. Not only that, it had no description of what the challenge actually was. All it said was “Survive 50 days.” . 50 days was extremely suspicious considering everything else he does is 100 days. Was it some sort of trap?
Well if it is, it’s suddenly worth doing to froggy. He’s sure surviving 50 days in this challenge can’t be too hard. It’s probably one of those easy challenges where he just has to survive somewhere.
______
Froggy was really starting to regret thinking this challenge was a cake walk.
At first it started out normally. He spawned outside of Grox’s island, went the island, looked around some shops, and eventually found something to do. Until he realized he hadn’t seen baby or homeless villager yet, usually they’re the first people to offer him help or threaten him. Now they’re no where to be seen.
Well that’s the first of the many odd things that happened.
After searching for his two favorite villager homies and finding nothing, he decided to do what he did best. Which was collecting taxes for the idiot they call god. Of course, Grox acted like a god, but to froggy, he was just some dude who somehow got lucky.
Which was starting to piss him off, but that’s beside the point.
As froggy is mining his life away, two guards suddenly point a gun to the back of his head. Now, Thais would be normal if he’d done something wrong- but he’s done LITERALLY nothing to piss off anyone. He was mining just like any other villager who didn’t want to get executed by Grox.
“Grox has requested your presence, if you do not comply, you’ll be forcefully dragged there by us.” The guard sounded serious, like the type of serious to shove shivers down your spine. Can’t blame anyone who doesn’t off get scared, the guards aren’t exactly the nicest people.
“ILL COMPLY JUST PUT THE GUN DOWN.” Froggy screeched. Listen, he wasn’t exactly happy or in the mood to be held at gun point by someone who doesn’t off him till later. So yes, he was scared and not ready to fail just yet.
_______
The “walk” ( quotation marks cause he was really being dragged) there wasn’t exactly fun. At one point, the guards dropped him some type of water source and lost him for a good 5 minutes. Was it funny? Absolutely. Did he enjoy being stranded in a body of water? No. Luckily, one of them had enough brain cells to realize they lost his Froggy ass. What’s ridiculous about all this, is that he COMPLIED and they’re still dragging him. How are you going to give an option but still perform the wrong one?
Eventually they reached the area the supposed god requested him at. If froggy was being truthful, he was surprised it wasn’t that fuggly thrown room again, and instead the “decision making room”. He’s been in here before, but never cared for it, it was bland anyway.
“ Lord Grox we have brought the villager.” One of the guards announced. Their voice seemed to shrink whenever they called for their “Savior”, sometimes it made Froggy laugh because they sound silly to him. Though what followed up to the announcement was straight silence. Their king is most likely mastur- I mean taking care of personal matters as of right now.
Froggy suddenly heard the other guard groan in annoyance. This was a common occurrence when the king needed to do anything actually important. He’d call for it, but when the time came, like a talking stage after its peak, ghosted. It’s pathetic in all honesty. It showed the king wasn’t good with time management (or anything at all if you’re froggy).
“Are we serious? How do these people worship him and then he pulls things like this?” Froggy will and won’t ever understand the villagers who devote their sentience to Grox. He’s practically useless when it comes to making decisions and keeping times probably why he was a watch on him at all times despite having hundreds of working clocks.
“Ahem! Have you brought my sla- I mean the citizen I’ve requested?” Grox barged through the door, his voice immense cutting through the awkward silence. He looked like he just went the shower and did a whole bunch of physical training afterwards instead of the opposite.
“Yes my king! He’s right here!” The guard proudly showed off his “prize” to his leader. It looked those little kids when they win something from the claw machine and run towards their parents to show them.
“Ah thank you. Now please, leave I need to have a…. Private conversation with our visitor.” Grox actually sounded serious for once and it was terrifying. Froggy was expecting him to fumble, stutter, confuse his words mid sentence like he always did. Whatever ver Grox needed to say, it had to be so important if his voice cooperated with him.
“Sir are you sure-“
“Did I stutter?”
“No-“
“Then leave, now.”
Slowly the Guards backed away from their positions, not trying anger their monarch. Fleeing the scene in fear of a punishment worse than death.
“Anyway, my boy Froggy! It’s good to see you again!” Grox immediately switch up his way of speaking as soon as it was just him in Froggy. You’d think it’d be a good thing, but to Froggy that meant he wanted something and was going to get no matter how much Froggy disobeyed and punched him.
“As you can tell I’ve called you up here for a VERY special reason!” Froggy would’ve never guessed! What amazing news! Totally didn’t already know that, Grox! On a serious note though Froggy was scared. Sure, Grox has called him to do multiple SPECIAL things, such as taking taxes or punishing villagers. But this felt a lot different, like Grox didn’t want him to do something, but wanted to gain something from him.
As Froggy’s mind was running wild with what the tyrant could possibly want from him, he spoke again this time with less piazzas.
“So do you accept?” Accept what? Grox didn’t ask him anything. Did he maybe miss something while he was in his own world? No way he would’ve immediately left his train of thought if Grox was speaking.
“Huh?” Froggy would only ask out loud.
“ Were you not paying attention? I’m kinda of offended froggy man! Anyway, I asked if it’d be cool if I made you my wife of some sort? Like not a wife ,wife but someone who will stick by my side and do what I want them to do.”
“…”
He’s not serious right?
“You’re- you’re joking right?” Froggy didn’t know how to feel right now. If the person who’s been trolling, hurting, killing him was genuinely asking him to be his partner, he might just burst a bubble. There no way in hell the great monarch who rules over the villagers is asking him if all people, to be his loyal wife who will stick by his side.
“Uhm…. No?” Grox responded quickly. He did was a little confused at Froggy’s response, considering that anyone else on the island would’ve immediately say yes. So, he was kinda expecting Froggy to just oblige and become his personal assistant/wife, then again, when does Froggy ever get along with him? Maybe a few times when he was feeling ever so generous.
“You actually- you want me to be your wife?!”
“Yes?! I don’t get what’s so confusing here.”
“…”
Froggy was stunned, to say the least. Did this blood seeking tyrant really assume Froggy, the main character who’s supposed to go against his ideals, would just accept his offer like that? Listen Froggy is a little pathetic sometimes, but is really willing to stoop down that low? He hasn’t even seen homeless or baby villager yet, so who knows if he’ll be able to get out of this mess.
…
But this something new. Something Froggy has been craving for a while.
“ I’ll be your wife under two conditions” Froggy
“You name it.”
“ you can’t remove me from my position if I do anything that mildly annoys or offends you and you can remove only remove me if I do something illegal or extremely gross.” Froggy was really hoping the king would agree. Of course his condition would seem outrageous to any outsider, but it was worth a shot. It was worth seeing if the king would just do something good for him, just this once.
“Deal.” Grox didn’t really care what Froggydude’s conditions were. As long as it wasn’t that he could kill him, harm his sla- civilization, or take his profits completely. Even then, he was surprised that’s all Froggy wanted from him. Most would probably want half his profits or wanted him to change his laws, but all Froggy wanted was to not be hunted down if he does something wrong. He was expecting Froggy to at least spit out some bullshit that Grox wouldn’t bother listening to, yet here he is wanting something so easy to follow.
“Lord Grox- FROGGYDUDE?! GUAR-“ one of the advisors had entered the room unannounced. If it were any other circumstances, Froggy would’ve bolted out there in no time. Baby villager would’ve blown a hole through the wall and clutched saved him like the goat he is.
But that’s not the case anymore. He’s legally their lords “wife”. Another being they have to give their undisputed respect too no matter if they hate him or not.
“Ayo chill, everyone stay where you are.” The monarch was the first to speak against the advisor. Shocking everyone around them.
“But-“
“My mans is no longer a threat, but another one of the people you’ll be respecting from now on.” Grox sounded like those wannabe nonchalant men who get girls, if Froggy could, he’d probably would be laughing at the way he sounded. It wasn’t appropriate for this situation, which is why he stayed completely quiet.
“My lord you didn’t seriously choose Froggydude to be your- your wife.”
“I did, bow leave us be. I have important matters to get to.”
“As you wish….”
Soon enough, everyone left. Just a few sentences from their god could have them leave room and not lay a finger on Froggy. In an opposite situation, things could’ve landed Froggy back in that obsidian prison again. But here he is, standing in front of the great Grox, alive and well.
“ hey Froggyman, that was pretty cool, am I right?”
“Yeah it was pretty cool my uh…” Froggydude almost completely forgot they’re married and had no clue if he should call him lord, Grox, or husband. At first he’d assume to just call him Grox because of past positions he’s had with him, but those positions are nothing compared to the one he’s in.
“Bro just call Grox or some stupid pet name I don’t even care for real.” Grox sounded like he really didn’t care, but he really did. Sadly, he was a sucker for pet names even if they were something corny like , “cheese” or “honeycomb”. It was just something he thought was heartwarming and intimate.
“Whatever you say, Grox”
“So… You want a statue of yourself next to mine?”
“Yoooo that’d be amazing!”
Maybe things won’t be as bad as Froggy originally thought.
