Work Text:

“This is like heaven and hell on earth!” Stiles exclaimed and then promptly sneezed.

He pinched his nose but continued talking, voice high and robotic. “Oh my god there’s so much dust. All of this knowledge and it’s protected by dust soldiers.”

Derek rolled his eyes and huffed out through his nose sharply.

Stiles whirled on him, finger raised. “Ha! You’re bothered by it too. Don’t pretend to be Mr Tough Guy.”

“Of course it bothers me, Stiles. I’m a werewolf. My senses are superior to yours.”

“Wow okay, no need to act all high and mighty when we’re talking about werewolves being more sensitive to hay fever.”

Dereks jaw clenched but Stiles just laughed and approached a bookshelf at random.

“But seriously man. All this knowledge just sat here? What even is this? Whose is this?”

Derek ignored Stiles in favour of looking at the lone desk. It was huge and solid wood, and just as dusty as the rest of the place. Stiles didn’t seem to notice the silence as he continued browsing through the books. Derek could see his wide eyed adoration as he flicked through each page carefully.

“There was a witch,” he started. He could sense Stiles’ attention had turned towards him but he kept his eyes on the desk. “My family killed her when she threatened the pack. We never realised she had this lair. So it’s just been sat here all these years.”

“Wow.”

The crinkle of another page turned. Derek huffed.

“It’s yours.”

“What?!”

Derek remained silent.

“All of this??”

A stiff nod.

Stiles stared around in wonder as if seeing the whole place for the first time again. His mouth snapped closed. Placing the book back in its spot on the shelf, Stiles silently approached Derek. He’d be the last person to admit it, but he was on edge. A silent Stiles was not something he was used to.

A gentle hand cupped his neck and soft lips pressed against his. His hands wound around Stiles’ waist instinctively and drew him closer, deepening the kiss. It was slow, but no less intense. In fact, Stiles had forgotten for a moment why he’d even initiated the kiss. Until he did. Stiles pulled away but didn’t get very far, Derek’s grip tightening and keeping him a hairs breath away.

“Thank you, Derek.”

Derek responded with a kiss. Stiles pulled away quickly and sneezed. There was a pause before Stiles burst into laughter, grin wide and eyes shiny.

“Oh god I need to clean this whole place now. I see your ploy! You just needed someone to clean up the place so you can benefit.”

Derek smirked and Stiles playfully stormed up the stairs, out of the basement.

For a moment, Dereks smirk softened. A small, genuine smile resting peacefully on his face. An incredible fondness filling his core. He once thought he’d never feel happiness like this again. He was so glad he was wrong.
