Merlin (Never) Just a servant
Merlin is mistreated physically or verbally by people who hold a higher social position (visiting nobles especially). Or fiction that stresses the class differences between servants and nobles. Not necessarily the main part of the plot but should be mentioned in the story. Only bromance.
Check the section "BOOKMARKED ITEMS" of the collection to see all fanfics that were selected to be part of it.
Any suggestions are most welcome!PS: you may check the similar community (just a servant) on fanfiction net as some stories are published only on one of the platforms (and there is more there for now).

Summary
What kind of world was this that Arthur lived in, which would see a man executed just for saving another man? What kind of justice was that which would punish Gwaine for protecting a man that had been mistreated, a man who happened to be Arthur's dearest friend?
Or:
Arthur's POV during Gwaine's trial in 03x04 and the missing scene afterwards, featuring Arthur being overprotective and emotionally constipated. Nothing new.

Summary
“Shut up!” he yells, and it’s right here where he makes the biggest mistake in Mercia’s visit.
Having your head smashed into a concrete wall isn’t something Merlin would recommend. “Don’t you fucking dare yell at me. Do you understand? How dare you be so insolent. You know, I was going to give you a small kick and be done with it, let the Prince deal with you himself as I’m sure he does. But no one disrespects me like that, boy. You hear me?”Merlin knows that Arthur doesn't truly hurt him because he wants to, he knows that the prince is just used to horseplay. Merlin also knows that Arthur would never beat him, or any servant for that matter, and he's secure in his knowledge of that. Visiting knights, however, seem to have a different idea of what happens behind closed doors, especially when they see all the things Arthur throws at his servant. So, if the prince can hurt Merlin, why can't they?

Summary
In which Gwaine finally realizes that Merlin has never had a day off and hatches a brilliant plan: Step One, get Merlin liquor'd up so he won't protest The Plan; Step Two, fake a kidnapping and a ransom note that will force Arthur and the rest of Camelot's nobles to treat their servants better, and Step Three, return Merlin to Arthur once he's done, with no one the wiser and everyone happier.
Unfortunately, Gwaine's plans have never once worked out the way he thought they would, and things just sort of fall apart from there.

Summary
“One of them did this?” Arthur asked, gesturing at the blood and the handprint visible around his wrist. His hard and, dare he say it, protective tone of voice made Merlin falter.
Dagr and Ebor don’t let Merlin off the hook that easily when he discovers their swords. Arthur is none too pleased when he finds out how they treated his manservant.

Merlin isn't your average servant. He's far too sassy, he has no respect for social customs and Arthur keeps him around anyway.
Someone's hit Merlin.
