Summary
Christine and her father are making an honest living in Paris. Life is tough, but at at least they're together. When her father picks up an unusual job delivering groceries to a mysterious recluse, Christine is unsure of what to expect. After he injures himself, Christine is forced to take over the delivery, only to find that the situation grows more exciting with each delivery.

“May I hold your hand, Erik?”
Perhaps in another life, she would have seen him blush crimson. Instead, he was just gaping at her in what seemed like surprise and incredulity. “Why the devil would you want to do that?”
Christine didn’t answer, instead choosing to hold out her much smaller hand towards him. Erik’s eyes flickered up towards her and to her offered appendage.
“I don’t understand,” he quietly said.
She simply held her hand out closer to him. “The way I see it,” she said, “two lonely children can be lonely together.”
Or,
Young Erik is taught that love can be sought even in the unlikeliest places. In his case, his first sun-kissed taste of that particular emotion was brought to life in a summer house by the sea.

Summary
