Three things happen at once as soon as he sets the note down on the counter.
1) He sneezes. Sneezes are Not Good, and only ever mean that something is happening with Ed that is going to cause Al a lot of grief. This, combined with:
2) four sneezes means that someone is probably literally going to die, which, okay, that’s pretty worrying for an Ed-related premonition. But then:
3) the phone rings. The Craft phone, not Al’s cell phone or the home line, and there are quite a few people who have the Craft number but all of them know to only call that number if someone needs immediate assistance because they’re literally on death’s door.He answers on the second ring: “Hello?”
“I need help.”
“Brother?”
