Ahhhhh thank you so much for this wonderful comment!!! The first scene in this chapter was the hardest scene for me to write in the whole fic (action sequences are not my forte...I had to rewrite that bit with Cassian taking down the guard on the ground A NUMBER of times), so it means a lot to hear that it felt clear and detailed to you.
And ughhhhh yes, the moment of denial. Of course Cassian is going to leave no stone unturned in the end (no matter how sure he feels that there's no chance of saving anyone: he has to try), but I wanted to capture something of the horror he might have felt in finding Melshi among the dead and of what an agonizing contrast that would be compared to the fantasy he's been harboring - of Melshi alive and untouched by any of the violence Cassian's been living with. I'm really happy that landed for you.
