Notes:

James Mason, a slim twenty-two year old white deer, just finished his art degree.

He's done with his classes, and now he has to wait some time for his graduation ceremony to happen - but, one way or another, he's no longer allowed to stay at his school's dorms. His only choice is to move back to his sleepy hometown of New Blackden, a little town between Toronto and Sudbury, in Ontario, and spend some time there, while he saves money at the job he has lined up in Sudbury, to be able to move out on his own.

The only problem, however, is that his parents have already moved out of that town, to the opposite end of the country, and he isn't really keen on just following them.

So, his choices lie among the friends he's made in that town ever since he moved in after finishing high school, who have all offered to let him stay with them while he decides:

Brett, an easygoing athletic red salamander who works at the local grocery store, with a pretty chill vibe, who lives in an apartment;
Tyler, a shy pudgy black bear who works as a games journalist, a lifelong fan of anime, manga and video games, who owns his own house;
Michael, a brash and quick-to-anger perverted red fox who is studying linguistics, very into lifting weights, getting drunk, and picking fights, who lives in a higher end apartment definitely paid for by his parents;
and Joshua, a stoic and cold white lion who works as an engineer, that seems to not have much in the way of hobbies besides working, who organizes all the group plans and is more or less the team dad, who has a nice two-story house.

Of course, Joshua didn't actually offer, but surely he wouldn't say no, right?

James is excited to return and spend time with his friends, being able to hang out with them only whenever he has vacations. He's decided to make this first week he has before he has to start his job a good one, spending time with them and seeing who to stay with.
And yet, once he returns, he realizes there's something wrong. All of his friends are acting off, like their issues got worse in his absence. There's some simmering tensions in the group that threaten to rip it apart, like it's holding together only by a thread, and nobody really wants to speak on what exactly is happening. And on top of everything else, strange things are happening around town.

There's a missing persons case involving fox children;
One of the locals can be seen wandering around aimlessly, rambling at anyone that might listen;
It feels like the feral deer that live in the dense forests surrounding the town stare at you, and they can be seen with scraps of cloth in their mouth sometimes;
Hell, it's like being out during the dark is a surefire way to feel like you're being watched;
There's these white, clawed hands appearing places;
The visions that James has had his whole life, that he's always chalked up to a hyperactive imagination, are back in full force;
There's frightening sights all over town, making it feel more claustrophobic than usual;

And then there's this ringing voice in his head...

Still, he needs a place to stay. Will he get to bond better with the friend he chooses to stay with? Will he find out some truth about his friends or the town? Will he figure out why people from his past seem to all be around to haunt him? Or will the tide swallow him and everything he holds dear whole?
