Billy wasn’t born special, unless you count being queerer than a three dollar bill “special.” In that case, he has not only been special, but also fucking flaming, since his big dumb blond head was sunctioned right out of his Ma’s cooter in the back of a bus on commute from downtown San Diego.
However, if you happen to mean “special” in the context of, say, government experimentation and psychedelic drug trials and telekinetic mind-melting, then Billy only really achieved that unique kind of fucked-upafter a structurally unsound mall decided to collapse on top of him, along with about two dozen other people.

Which is to say, their relationship kicked off after he shoved Hargrove facedown into a patch of junkyard dirt and railed him till the boy was cross-eyed and cackling through a mouthful of blood.
