Summary
Following episode six The Art of Fuckery, Stede settles on making Ed a forty orange glaze cake and holding their own little party for two. Ed’s surprise at the gesture turns into them realizing just how much more of each other’s company they both want leading to Stede's first true experiences in his life and Ed's first time taking things slow.
Or, Stede seduces Ed unknowingly with cake. They take things very slow.

Summary
“Stede, listen to me very carefully.” Lucius’ voice was firm. Stede stalled in his frantic thoughts. “You need to relax and enjoy this moment without worrying about what you’re wearing.”
“But-”
“He. Will. Not. Care.” Lucius leaned in closer. “He’s been working on this all afternoon and god help you if you’re too busy apologizing for your clothes to let him do as he’s planned.” His gaze sharpened. “I will kill you if you ruin this by rushing in there all flustered and a mess.”
Stede stared a moment, his mind working to catch up, before he managed to say softly, “He’s planned something for me?”

After Stede surprised Ed the previous evening with dinner and cake that led to more, an out of sight Ed plans his own gentlemanly romantic gesture while Stede is preoccupied trying to study about whatever physical acts might come next. Lucius and Oluwande step in to help both of them.

Summary
He woke to Ed’s breathing softly against his neck, still asleep beside him. Stede smiled up at the ceiling. Ed was still here, still curled against him, still close. He took in a deep breath of his own as various emotions washed over him. How this was real he had no idea. He laid there happily with Ed curled against him, face tucked against Stede’s neck.
Only when the sun rose a bit further did he shift to press a kiss to Ed’s hair and brush a hand up and down his back over the thin linen shirt he had chosen to sleep in. Ed stirred some at the touch and adorably nuzzled further against Stede’s neck, beard rubbing against his skin. Stede continued to trace patterns along Ed’s back.
Ed hummed and shifted against him, pressing kisses to Stede’s skin as he fully woke.

Set between episodes six and seven, after all their romantic gestures and promises of forever, Stede and Ed enjoy their morning. Stede insists they do what Ed has hinted at wanting to do since the start, while finally saying those three words to one another and somehow shocked when the other says them in return.

Summary
The look of love on Ed’s features was beautiful. He gently teased, “Well then we’ll have to start taking shifts as Captain.”
“Nonsense. We’ll be Co-Captains.”
“That does have a nice ring to it…”
“Wait, who are we saying is Captain right now? Both of you?”
“Yes,” Ed and Stede replied.

Set within a canon divergent series, after the commissioned orange cake sets things on a different path for them, they make a stop at St. Augustine for oranges and Stede plans a picnic for himself and Ed. Each ends up working on past trauma and regrets as they continue to build their relationship.

Summary
Stede relaxed further and further at the lovely heat of the bath and his features softened. Ed’s gaze was wonderfully tender as he took him in. “You’re really gorgeous, you know that?”
Stede scoffed lightly and shook his head.
“You are,” Ed pushed. “The most beautiful features I’ve ever seen in my life. I would die in tribute to your nose alone.”
Stede huffed a laugh this time. “You’re not allowed to die in tribute to any part of me.”

Stede has a bath drawn and he’s surprised at just how thoroughly Ed enjoys the simple pampering of a hair wash. Their discussions earlier about Ed’s past lingers and Ed pushes to feel just how different Stede’s touch truly is from anyone before him.

Summary
They’d been promising each other forever for weeks and weeks now, since the day after their first kiss, and the thought of wearing a ring pledging himself to Ed made his heart wonderfully skip.
“Shopkeep!” he called out, turning to look for the slender woman running the store. “I would like to see this case of rings here.”
Lucius gaped a bit at him and rushed to dissuade, “I don’t know if this is the best idea just yet.”
“Why not?”
“Well for starters you hadn’t heard of matelotage at all until about two minutes ago and now you’re going to buy him a ring?”
“Yes,” Stede stated bluntly as if the question was ridiculous.

Stede plans a romantic proposal for Ed with some help from the crew, only for them to not be as alone as they think.
