It’s him, it’s always him, how do you not recognise him when he haunts every one of your dreams?
It is not till he has knocked his last arrow, till the rage and terror and hopelessness and please I finally made it home, please let it be enough fades and leaves him breathless and sick that a spark of something lights in his brain.
Those once familiar eyes. Those gentle lips once curved into an almost perpetual smile. Calloused fingers that strung a bow almost as skillfully as him.~

Summary
It’s the middle of another dry, hot summer, with endless scorching winds that bring no relief and only wick away any moisture on his lips and skin. The morning had started out optimistically cool, a greyish cloud cover keeping the worst of the heat at bay. Which is probably why he’d agreed to this, fool that he was.
