Summary
“Hey, gorgeous,” Hal starts one day, his body leaning into Bruce’s side, nuzzling his nose into the crook of the Gothamite’s neck. “When did you fall in love with me?”
They’d been together for a few months, and Hal realized he had never asked the man. He knows when he fell in love with Bruce, the first time he realized Bruce might’ve been crazier than him, but he doesn’t know when the other fell for him.
He doubts Bruce fell first, but he knows that with the intense way Bruce loves him, the man fell harder.
Recalling the memory, Bruce lets out a deep rumble of a chuckle before pressing a peck to the pilot’s hairline. “It’s silly,” Bruce admits, voice and demeanor uncharacteristically shy as he averts his gaze, a light pink dusting his cheeks.
“Silly, maybe, but I want to hear it.” Hal looks into the man’s eyes with love and obvious adoration. “C'mon, babe. Lay it on me.”
Bruce huffs a chuckle.
“Please?” Hal begs when the man doesn’t immediately spill.
“It’s not inherently romantic.”
“But it’s ours, so I want to know, Spooky.”

“Research has found that couples who are in love and bond in a romantic relationship synchronize their heartbeats after gazing into each other’s eyes for three minutes,” Bruce tells Hal when they catch each others’ eyes from across the kitchen counter.
Hal blinks, stupefied. “...That’s, uh, cool.”
Bruce stares at Hal, unblinking.
“Oh.” Hal gives a breathless, incredulous chuckle, brows raising as he puts down his mug. “You wanna do this right now?”
Bruce’s only response is for his smile to grow a little wider- something that would be nigh imperceptible to anyone else who didn’t know him as personally as Hal did.
Hal shakes his head, amused, before staring back into Bruce’s eyes, almost like a staring contest.

Summary
That’s odd.
Bruce has specific ringtones for his friends and family members and vibrational patterns that spell out their names in Morse code, but this one was just a single buzz and ringtone that Clark hadn’t heard before.
“Who’s that?” The reporter asks, his inquisitive nature getting the best of him.
“No one of importance,” Bruce replies, but Clark clocks the hint of amusement in his tone and the shine in his eyes. He looks less tired than he seemed just a few seconds ago, and he’s almost… mirthful, strange as it is to associate that word with the Bat.
“A lady?”
“Quite the opposite.”
“Ah, work then?” Clark feels bad for Bruce. The man is always working.
“Something like that.” Bruce receives another text. And another. And another.

Summary
Whatever Hal is making didn’t initially start as charcoal.
What’s worse is when the man pulls the pan away from the electric, not gas, stove, Bruce sees a small flame start on the stovetop.
“Hal–!”
“Ah, shit,” Hal says in a tone that is much too casual for the situation before blowing the flame out, promptly coughing and blowing away the new plumage of smoke. “Sorry. I don’t know why that keeps happening.”
Bruce’s brows raise in unmitigated surprise before he clears his throat and schools his expression back into something more neutral. “This is a repeat occurrence?”
“Aw, don’t worry about it, Spooky. I’m just a little rusty, is all.”
Bruce looks at the boiling pot of pasta that’s begun to bubble over, water splashing onto the stove and filling their vision with steam.
“Hal.”
“Oops.” The pilot haphazardly pulls the still-boiling-over pot towards himself, not helping Bruce’s anxiety about the situation at all.

“Bruce?” Hal dubiously asked as if questioning whether his sight betrayed him, the pep in his step immediately faltering.
“Oh, you two know each other?” Carol asked, distancing herself from the handsome billionaire.
“No, I’m afraid we don’t.” Bruce turned to Hal, and his words were a pointed warning. “After all, what would a billionaire and a test pilot have in common before now, hm?”
“Right, right. No, uh, I just mean… Bruce Wayne. Crazy to see a billionaire here.” Hal came closer to the pair, leaning closer to the man as he managed to grit out, “Why are you here?”
“Well, Mr. Jordan–”
“Hal is fine.”
“I was hoping to fund a new project for Ferris Air, and I’ve selected you as my test pilot.”

“How long have you had glasses for?”
Bruce’s brows furrow in thought. “Not long,” he squeezes his fingers into Hal’s side, pulling him closer. “I don’t frequently use them.”
“Oh, are they like reading glasses or something?”
“Something like that.” Honestly, the prescription is light enough that he can go without them, though he still optimizes them in his cowl's lenses.
Hal gives a small hum.
“What?” Bruce asks again.
“You’re gorgeous,” Hal says simply, pressing a kiss to Bruce’s hairline. “The glasses make you hot.”
Bruce lets out a huff that’s a mix between disbelief and amusement. “Excuse me?”
“Well, you’re always hot, but this…?” Hal looks down at him, eyes dark with something possessive. “Gorgeous.”
Bruce feels heat rush to his cheeks before he averts his gaze for a second, unable to continue meeting Hal’s.
“Hey, eyes on me, beautiful,” comes Hal’s gentle command.
Coaxed back into it, Bruce looks back up at him.

Summary
Despite Hal’s constant vampire jokes, Bruce doesn’t sleep with his arms crossed on his chest, completely still. If anything, Bruce is the opposite, hands splayed above his head, legs in different positions, taking up space, and worst of all, he’s a total blanket hog!
And look, Hal loves Bruce, unconditionally so, but as he stares up at the man’s high-vaulted bedroom ceiling, cold and without a blanket, he can’t deny that it tests his patience.
“Babe,” Hal starts, gently tugging at a loose corner of the blanket that Bruce hugs to his chest. “Give me some blanket.”
Bruce mumbles in his sleep, and instead of loosening his grip, he holds it tighter to himself, even throwing his leg over it.
“Baby,” Hal calls out and gets no response. “Gorgeous, please,” the pilot begs.
Bruce just gives an unconscious grunt; brows furrowed cutely on his sleeping face.
“Love of my life?”
Hal is met with a small snore. He’s fighting a losing battle here.
With a sigh, he reaches forward to gently brush some hair away from Bruce’s face, smiling to himself when the man unconsciously leans into his touch.

“I wish you were a woman,” Hal starts, head laying on Bruce’s firm, muscular, unclothed chest. The pilot had never been one to mince words, but even Bruce finds himself taken aback by the statement.
At an uncharacteristic loss for words, especially when he’s so fond of witty, snarky retorts against the Green Lantern, Bruce just gives a confused grunt.
“It’s not really something you say to someone after they give you some of the best sex of your life, but…” Hal draws stars with his fingertips around Bruce’s shoulder before pulling away, leaving Bruce missing the warmth the man provided. “I should go.”
“Hal…”
“Go back to calling me ‘Jordan,’ Spooky. It’ll be easier for both of us that way.”
Bruce’s hand reaches out to limply grab at Hal’s wrist, his heart aching in ways he never knew possible. This was something that hurt more than any injury as Batman. “Stay.”
“I can’t, Bruce.” Hal presses a final, tender (yet unbearably cruel) kiss to the Gothamite’s shoulder before slipping out from underneath the sheets. “…I’ll see you on Thursday.”
Bruce thinks “I wish you were a girl” is Hal’s way of saying he loves him, and it hurts.

Usually, alphas didn’t make nests. Sure, it could be seen as an act of love for an alpha to make one for their omega, but it’s unnatural for them. They, as alphas, don’t have the typical nesting instincts aside from wanting to stay close to their pack or provide safety to an omega.
Hal struggles to find the right words as he stares at the makeshift nest Bruce has put together. He can feel the weight of Bruce's presence, the quiet intensity of his stoic demeanor, but Hal also senses the vulnerability beneath it. Bruce isn’t great at expressing his emotions, but this… this was a huge gesture of love.
But despite the warmth that rises in his chest at the thought of Bruce doing something so thoughtful, something nags at him— a discomfort he can’t quite shake. It’s not the nest itself, but the way it makes him feel, like he’s being asked to step into a role that doesn’t quite fit.
It’s not that Hal doesn’t appreciate this gesture, but part of him feels uncomfortable. Not that it’s bad, but it’s unfamiliar- it feels almost like he’s submitting to Bruce in a way if he gets into the nest.

He sits up and swings his legs over the side of the bed before Bruce makes a wounded noise in the back of his throat- a small grunt that almost could be mistaken for a whine.
“Don’t you dare. Don’t you dare leave our bed.” Bruce’s arms snake around Hal’s waist now, pulling the man closer to him.

“I don’t believe you’re dead,” the pilot grits out. “But if you are, you’re- you’re such an asshole!” Hal’s voice wobbles on the expletive. “‘I hope Green Lantern is okay’ were your last words? Of course, I’m not okay! Fucking asshole… leaving us behind like this…”
Hal’s choked sob echoes in the cave before the voice message abruptly ends.

“What’s your alternative?” Batman asks, his tone sharp, brow arching slightly, where no one can see it, beneath the cowl.
“Practice,” Flash says, shrugging. “I’m the kind of guy who learns best in action, you know? Hands-on.”
Green Arrow smirks, leaning back with his arms behind his head. “He’s right. I didn’t get here by studying thick manuals. Experience sticks better.”
Shazam chimes in, rubbing his arm with a sheepish grin. “Yeah, uh, anything that means I don’t have to sit through this thing. Just tell me what to do, and I’ll do it.”
They all look to the Dark Knight for his judgment.
Batman’s gaze narrows, the cowl’s lenses shrinking. “...Fine. But I recommend we watch five videos that effectively demonstrate–”
“Come on, Bats, we’re not a bunch of rookies here,” Ollie confidently states. “We can handle this without sitting through a bunch of videos. We’ve faced worse than some CPR training. Trust me; we’ve got this.”
